So this cooler is based on the evaporative effect, correct? I would think this would work best where the overall humidity is quite low. What do you think?
My final design has the sand in the pit up to the halfway level of the pot. I make sure that this sand is kept wet, along with the sand inside the pot, and the cloth on top of the pot. The wet sand seems to enhance the cooling effect, and at the moment with outside temps in the mid 20's the pot is at about 10 degrees which is perfect for butter, tomatoes and drinks.
Update on this project. I have been constantly experimenting with this fridge. I was worried that all that sand was acting as an insulator rather and inhibiting evaporation (through the walls of the unit), so I have removed the sand. The fridge seems to be working better, though crucially keeping it in the shade of the stone pit is also importan.

You should make a small irrigation slow drip line to a source of water so it could be more automated lol
