Apart from the self-evident tendency of any bureaucracy towards growth, if the private sector has contracted then the public sector has to counter balance. The time to argue this point has already past and politicians will anything to stay in power, including the mortgaging of the next generation. Actually government is out of control in the rest of the worlds nations too. The advantage is that in Asia, the less intelligent laws often can be ignored for surprisingly low bribes. Thus China may have a better economic freedom index score then the yearly statistics tend to indicate by looking only on the laws on the books instead of measuring likelihood of enforcement.

Funny I was considering a move from California to Austin Tx. Any other places in Texas I should consider moving. Looking for places where the power of "social conservatism" is light/nonexistent (I know that is hard to find in the south). Just so long as the job creation is good the environment "walkable", and economic politics less socialist then California, I should do well.

Consistent good sense from a politician over a long period of time, in the Euro zone no less. Valclav Havel and now this fellow giving the EU's nose a well deserved twist. Hopefully this is the start of something big. The USA and Europe will have to abandon socialism or have a tech revolution in manufactured production in order to survive as political entities.
