  • I just put my second turbo from Godspeed on my 02 WRX and I'm getting bad boost surges in 5k and higher. The first one didn't do it, but this one does so I'm think mine is the wastegate because I'm still using the same BOV.

  • Did you ever sort out this issue?

  • @jaredsmeyatsky Turned out to be a non issue. As mentioned, it only occurs when i floor it in 4th or 5th when creeping up onto boost from low RPM's. It's typical when using stock heads and cams. To get rid of it completely (not that it's causing any major issue), is to put on better, high flowing heads and bigger cams.

  • Thats really bad compressor surge, it shouldnt flutter on boost.

Fluttering off throttle is normal. Fluttering on throttle is bad... have it checked out by a real mechanic please.

  • @gwinIS200 Wrong way around - fluttering when backing off the throttle is bad - This is when excess boost is not bled out of the system properly - and being pushed back up against the compressor side of the turbo, causing the fluttering sound, not a major issue, but can sometimes reduce the life of the turbo.

Fluttering while coming on boost on low RPM is typical of the heads/cams not flowing enough air for the engine to ingest, which causes a brief period of flutter while coming on boost.

  • its compressor surge. the VERY bad compressor surge that can kill the turbo nd the engine. if i were you, id buy a bov frm hks, theres is very good

  • thats wastegate flutter. surging happens when the throttle plate closes and the trapped air has no where to go. the flutter was happening under acceleration. you either have a bad tune or your too high in elevation

  • its air reversal its not 2 bad for turbo, compressor surge is a stall in a turbo in low rpms.

  • @ki11joy92 HKS are very good? What a super sequential? He needs a plumback, but its not just a blow off valve, the vf35 turbos are renound for it.

  • @ki11joy92 This has nothing to do with a blow off valve.

  • could be a cracked exhaust housing. sounds like wastegate flutter under load.

  • that sounds like surge but surge happens when the turbo is sucking in too much air for the engine to happen to all with stock turbo and motors it shouldnt happen and its broken

  • its not broken, if u have an aftermarket bov it will do it...mine does it on low revs only

  • my rex makes that sound, and its got a stock turbo, maybe its broken>?
