its common sense people thats called trouble shooting if it doesnt work one way you modded so it can work its nothing out of the ordianary if you aint trouble shooting your the ones with the black belts that get their asses kicked in street fights cause you think that wat works in a controlled enviorment in the dojo is gona work in the cage and in the street
Goddammit people! The artistic order of the move should suffice enough than to naming it. I know it helps you remember the move, but the move itself should be rather deeply remembered!lol
It's kind of ironic how people learn new techniques on their own while they're rolling just from trial and error without being instructed to do so. I rolled with this wrestler one time that did this same exact defense. He just hugged around my hips while inside the triangl and I had nowhere to go. He was just stalling. I switched my legs and went for a gogoplata and it worked. His arms were caught under my body and couln't defend against it. His facial expression was funny after he tapped.
It's inverted not because he does it from the bottom...
But because the foot placement is completely different.
This is a way to finish the triangle even when the opponent does not let you get his arm accross his neck, instead of the inside leg crossing over the back to the outside leg is crossing over to the inside.
@dearskin then what does that make what Toby Imada's submission of the year? *that* to me is a reverse triangle, he's on the guy's back. And he's upside down as well, which makes it an inverted reverse triangle.
I think Renzo's naming convention is totally fine though, it's a weird move.
@borayongacoglu does it matter how the move is named, or if you can execute it efficiently? There are a lot of judo and jj techniques that i use and don't even know their names, or only english names, not the japanese.
Renzo is the man and this is a great technique, but I have to agree with some of the other posts, this is a REVERSE triangle, not an inverted. Inverted is when you are upside down, reverse is when you cross your legs over the side of their neck rather than the shoulder. The Bolt Lock is the name that Submissions 101 gives to the standard Reverse Triangle.
I understand what you're saying. A good BJJ practitioner should be able to name the moves properly. However, keep in mind that different academies call the same position different names. I train at a Renzo academy, and we are taught that position in the above video is in fact called the inverted triangle. The reverse triangle is a different position for us.
Anyway, while nomenclature is important, application is more important.
It is Brazilian Jiu-jitsu, so the correct name is TRIÂNGULO INVERTIDO in portuguese

Arguing English when it is someones second language is a dick move, especially when inverted means opposite so it is correct (kinda) anyway.

according to Ari Bolden who has loads more experience than Renzo Gracie, right?
handsomegorilla 2 years ago
INVERTED means UPSIDE DOWN dummy not backwards or opposite side.
The inverted triangle is Ryan Hall's move.
