Neither cars are bad, they just have different purposes and philosophies. The M5 is a performance car turned luxury car, the E55 is a luxury car turned performance car. The M5 is more suited to the track (at least, for a 4 door sedan) and the E55 is more suited to the autobahns.
I have an e-55 with pulley mod, exhaust, headers and ECU change. Dont know how much hp it has cause havent dino it yet... Previous owner talked about 682 Nm, and that he added around 100 kw( I dont believe it, that much) but he spent around USD15.000 on it! That means 550 hp right? the only thing I have done so far is speed up to 320 km/h.
I have beaten cars in drag that range from M5, to SL63, to modded Subarus, modded M3s, and modded 135.
I have to dino this to know how much power I have...
@luisomtz20 manual gearbox is the thing of the past, with the electronic shifting, its alot smoother and quicker in response. Either way, once you drive one then come back and see if AMG still sucks

Benz =Luxury, BMW =Performance, MB AMG is the BEST of both worlds. like 2 cars in 1. Luxury from driving Benz and performance from driving racing engines. To all those who are saying the E55 is faster than the M5 - go look up facts. The E63 AMG has the exact same performance numbers as the M5. Check out Motor Trend's comparison sheet between the 2006 M5, 2007 E63, and the 2007 S6. If the E63 goes head to head with the M5 then how can a stock E55 beat an M5? LOL
@kevincordeiro That is because the E55 is supercharged and the E63 is not. Thats why I'd pick an E55 over the 63 anyday. Forced Induction changes the whole game :) Even stock for stock the E55 puts down more tq than the E63 and M5, it has less horsepower however.

@kevincordeiro e55 is faster than e63 they can run high 11s stock. E55 supercharged v8 is way underated, fastest stock e55 runs 11.7 at 121, fastest e63 runs 11.9 at 118mph, fastest stock m5 ran 12 flat at 118-119mph, you get ur facts straight.

@2URBO2 no amg car comes with manual they are all autos, but dont be fooled its not a normal auto they shift as fast as a manual, look up speedshift and 5 speed auto in that car is same one used in slr mercedes, why because it can handle way more power than a manual(6 speed), why do u think fastest cars auto there are autos.
I know that too, but remember, the manual is not killing as much horses as the auto. Thats a fact, though the special auto in the AMG's are good, but i would rather have a strong 6 speed manual, and that M113 with supercharger from SLR, and a LSD diff :) Waaay better, and it is better in the winter too, just look at those Benz auto's in the traffic lights, the wheels cant stop spinning, unless they shift to park or neutral. :) Hmmmm

LMAO believe me when I say this, one of the strongest transmissions is the 5 speed in the AMGs, they shift quick and handle ALOT of torque, sure they don't blip and all that but they're very solid.

Listen to me bro, the M5 is an AMAZING car however there is no doubt the E55 will beat it in a drag race EVERYTIME if they're both stock. The E55 also because it's supercharged is easier to tune. It's easy to get an E55 to 620-650hp, and that's wheel HP. However the E55 for some reason gets it's speed from the sheer torque it has. 650lb ft at the wheels will do alot of damage. I love the M5 and the E55 but stock for stock the E55 is faster, not my opinion but a fact.
@princepersia1 Well, bro, i am aware of the fact that the Benz is somewhat quicker off the line, but have you seen all the other ROLLING start videos where the m5 is barely quicker every time? It gets me mad, but the fact is true, E55/E63 is quicker off the line, but in rolling starts, the m5 is quicker.
@princepersia1 Very true...I've owned them both. Also, what many don't understand(because of someone's brilliant comment, they've never owned one, nor are enthusiasts), is the E55 does have a major "achilles tendon", they get heat soaked very easy, especially in hot weather. So, if you can minimize that, my particular E55 stock for stock was CONSIDERABLY quicker out of the whole, and at least .4-.7 quicker in the quarter mile, and was as fast or a little faster on the top end.
@princepersia1 Guys, this dude knows his cars...he's right, the 5 spd is the same tranny in the 65 cars (for you non-enthusiasts, that is a twin-turbo V-12). The biturbo Mercedes cars put out about as much torque as a chipped late model Duramax...enough to pull a house off of it's foundation :). The 7-spd tranny that the newer 63 cars have is nice at launching, they get good 60 ft. times, and 0-60 numbers, but when you really start modding the 55 supercharged motor...there is no comparision!
THANK YOU, it looks like we're the only ones knowing what we're talking about. Problems is most people haven't driven the E63 let alone the E55, it FEELS like a totally different car, the power is in different places and the torque too. The heat problem can be minimized with aftermarket parts, I do wish we had the SLRs system as they do use the same engine, the SLR is way better when it comes to the heat issue.
Both or are you choosing one out of both? If both then they're amazing cars, although they are in the same "category". If you need leg room in the rear and a big boot but don't mind a heavy car and always drive on the highway get the S65. It's crazy fast out of the box and is a little more luxury. The E55 is lighter, you can do a coilover swap and some handling mods and the car becomes very dynamic. If space isn't an issue I'd say the E55 is better. The 65 is more expensive so that too.
Don't get the CL, get SL or S if you're trying to choose between the two. The E55 is a good platform for modding and weight saving. With the right money spent you can lose 400-550 pounds, full interior (except standard seats). Engine is good for 600whp+, but this is all very expensive. But as I said, the E55 is the lightest of the 55k sedans and it looks better than the CLK (not BS, standard). It's lighter than the CLS and is overall an awesome platform. S is heavy and more of a highway rocket.
@princepersia1 i was wanted to get all 4 of them (buying would be spread out) then upgrading them. one reason i wanted the s65 was because its a highway rocket (im always on the highway).
Why all four? The CL Class is pointless, avoid it. It's for old people and is just a 2 door S Class which is beside the point, still heavy and looks no better. The SL is nice, if you want a highway rocket but don't need space get that. Trust me the SL65 is fast, when I drove it I had to look under the hood to make sure it was stock. I couldn't afford to get the E55 and the SL though, I need the extra space but if you can afford it, go for it. Nice to have the top down too, especially in SoCal.

actually the E55's HP numbers are underated. The E55's HP is around 500 and 550 torque, not 469. Stock E55's have dynoed stock with 400-440 rwhp. Motor Trend gives the E55 4.2 0-60 and the E63 4.5. Some have seen 4.0 seconds. Most E55's with slicks have had some low 12 sec high 11 second quarter mile times STOCK. With just a tune and a pulley your running 0-60 around 3.8 and in the high 10's low 11's 1/4 mile.The E55 station wagon pulls 4.0 0-60. 2010 M5 does 4.6 0-60, The Beast is still king!
I don't know how many of you have taken a ride or driven an E class but it is the smoothest driving car I have ever driven. That is probably why it does not handle like a BMW with their stiffer suspensions.
Stock for stock the E55 will win up to 160 or so.. the M5 V10 has the higher hp advantage and ultimate hp is always the winner on top speed...... Now in this case,
It doesn't even seem like Benz even competes with BMW or Audi. Benz just keeps doing what its been doing for the past 100+ years and everyone else just tries to keep up.
Keep in mind we have no idea what the mods are to both of the cars. However the Merc will always beat the M5 in a straight line, cornering and on twisties, it would be a better competition. Bmw is not known for their raw hp like merc is.
@Soprano313 I respectfully disagree. My parents have an '02 S430 and it seems like every time they fire it up, there's a "malfunction" error. My '00 3-series is a far better vehicle from a build perspective. Don't get me started on the C-class previous generation (garbage). I've had 2 loaners (Mercedes C300, BMW E90 328i) and the BMW was vastly superior. It doesn't have the gadgetry or sophistication of a Mercedes S, but I'd hardly say Audi and BMW are trying to keep up with Mercedes.

More to the point, I was illustrating from my personal experience I'm not impressed with Mercedes over the past/recent years. Perhaps things are on their way up again with the new E. But to get as many errors, faults, warning lights for a car north of 70K and designed for daily driving...unacceptable.

I have both bimmer & AMG. Hands down AMG performs better. The title of ULTIMATE DRIVING MACHINE should have been given to Porsche which is trully the best performer.

Any AMG black series will out perform any M anyway you'd like, cornering, straight line and even in reverse. BMW looks better to me, but performance i would go with "MERC" Regardless, if you have an M5 you have a beautiful car, but not the best.
Cadillac is crap. Horrible build quality, poor ergonomics. Cheap leather. Nothing but garbage. Anyone that does not agree needs to just sit in one to figure it out. Pure American garbage.
Cadillac's are absolutely terrible. I went to test drive the new CTS-V.. sure, the most I'll give it is the engine, but everything else.. wow, don't get me started.
American cars can never be compared to any European cars in terms of quality. Benz, BMW and Audi's are the benchmark of quality and overall they make the happiest customers.
What is wrong with everything else? It handles amazingly and the technology is far superior to anything you'll find in BMW. i.e. 40gb hard drive, magnetic suspension, etc..
The CTS-V spanks every other V8 Sport Sedan as well as some V10's (M5) in a straight line or around the bend.
BMW, Audi, and MB aren't the benchmark of quality - I'd say Porsche deservea that title.
PS - The highest rated customer satisfaction goes to Lexus, MB and Audi aren't even in the top 5, but Cadillac is :)

It's actually not IRRELEVANT (and i'm 8 years old?) because build quality has a major impact on a vehicle's performance on the drag strip and the course. If a vehicle isn't built to a high standard you can be sure it won't compete with the best of them, which the CTS-V does. Hence, it runs the ring faster than any other sport sedan due to it's build quality.

It's easy to get an E55 to 620-650hp, and that's wheel HP. However the E55 for some reason gets it's speed from the sheer torque it has. 650lb ft at the wheels will do alot of damage. I love the M5 and the E55 but stock for stock the E55 is faster, not my opinion but a fact.

It gets me mad, but the fact is true, E55/E63 is quicker off the line, but in rolling starts, the m5 is quicker.

@princepersia1 Very true...I've owned them both. Also, what many don't understand(because of someone's brilliant comment, they've never owned one, nor are enthusiasts), is the E55 does have a major "achilles tendon", they get heat soaked very easy, especially in hot weather. So, if you can minimize that, my particular E55 stock for stock was CONSIDERABLY quicker out of the whole, and at least .4-.7 quicker in the quarter mile, and was as fast or a little faster on the top end.

@princepersia1 Guys, this dude knows his cars...he's right, the 5 spd is the same tranny in the 65 cars (for you non-enthusiasts, that is a twin-turbo V-12). The biturbo Mercedes cars put out about as much torque as a chipped late model Duramax...enough to pull a house off of it's foundation :). The 7-spd tranny that the newer 63 cars have is nice at launching, they get good 60 ft. times, and 0-60 numbers, but when you really start modding the 55 supercharged motor...there is no comparision!

THANK YOU, it looks like we're the only ones knowing what we're talking about. Problems is most people haven't driven the E63 let alone the E55, it FEELS like a totally different car, the power is in different places and the torque too. The heat problem can be minimized with aftermarket parts, I do wish we had the SLRs system as they do use the same engine, the SLR is way better when it comes to the heat issue.

Both or are you choosing one out of both? If both then they're amazing cars, although they are in the same "category". If you need leg room in the rear and a big boot but don't mind a heavy car and always drive on the highway get the S65. It's crazy fast out of the box and is a little more luxury. The E55 is lighter, you can do a coilover swap and some handling mods and the car becomes very dynamic. If space isn't an issue I'd say the E55 is better. The 65 is more expensive so that too.

Don't get the CL, get SL or S if you're trying to choose between the two. The E55 is a good platform for modding and weight saving. With the right money spent you can lose 400-550 pounds, full interior (except standard seats). Engine is good for 600whp+, but this is all very expensive. But as I said, the E55 is the lightest of the 55k sedans and it looks better than the CLK (not BS, standard). It's lighter than the CLS and is overall an awesome platform. S is heavy and more of a highway rocket.

Why all four? The CL Class is pointless, avoid it. It's for old people and is just a 2 door S Class which is beside the point, still heavy and looks no better. The SL is nice, if you want a highway rocket but don't need space get that. Trust me the SL65 is fast, when I drove it I had to look under the hood to make sure it was stock. I couldn't afford to get the E55 and the SL though, I need the extra space but if you can afford it, go for it. Nice to have the top down too, especially in SoCal.

actually the E55's HP numbers are underated. The E55's HP is around 500 and 550 torque, not 469. Stock E55's have dynoed stock with 400-440 rwhp. Motor Trend gives the E55 4.2 0-60 and the E63 4.5. Some have seen 4.0 seconds. Most E55's with slicks have had some low 12 sec high 11 second quarter mile times STOCK. With just a tune and a pulley your running 0-60 around 3.8 and in the high 10's low 11's 1/4 mile.The E55 station wagon pulls 4.0 0-60. 2010 M5 does 4.6 0-60, The Beast is still king!

Stock for stock the E55 will win up to 160 or so.. the M5 V10 has the higher hp advantage and ultimate hp is always the winner on top speed...... Now in this case,

Keep in mind we have no idea what the mods are to both of the cars. However the Merc will always beat the M5 in a straight line, cornering and on twisties, it would be a better competition. Bmw is not known for their raw hp like merc is.

@Soprano313 I respectfully disagree. My parents have an '02 S430 and it seems like every time they fire it up, there's a "malfunction" error. My '00 3-series is a far better vehicle from a build perspective. Don't get me started on the C-class previous generation (garbage). I've had 2 loaners (Mercedes C300, BMW E90 328i) and the BMW was vastly superior. It doesn't have the gadgetry or sophistication of a Mercedes S, but I'd hardly say Audi and BMW are trying to keep up with Mercedes.

More to the point, I was illustrating from my personal experience I'm not impressed with Mercedes over the past/recent years. Perhaps things are on their way up again with the new E. But to get as many errors, faults, warning lights for a car north of 70K and designed for daily driving...unacceptable.

Any AMG black series will out perform any M anyway you'd like, cornering, straight line and even in reverse. BMW looks better to me, but performance i would go with "MERC" Regardless, if you have an M5 you have a beautiful car, but not the best.

American cars can never be compared to any European cars in terms of quality. Benz, BMW and Audi's are the benchmark of quality and overall they make the happiest customers.

What is wrong with everything else? It handles amazingly and the technology is far superior to anything you'll find in BMW. i.e. 40gb hard drive, magnetic suspension, etc..
The CTS-V spanks every other V8 Sport Sedan as well as some V10's (M5) in a straight line or around the bend.
BMW, Audi, and MB aren't the benchmark of quality - I'd say Porsche deservea that title.
PS - The highest rated customer satisfaction goes to Lexus, MB and Audi aren't even in the top 5, but Cadillac is :)

@xXSilentXKillaXx not really i own a couple cars like a 2009 cadillac cts v and a 2006 s500 4 matic and a chrysler 300c hemi also a 2005 audi s4 upgraded with rs6 turbos 60 pound injectors a whole rebuilt engine and the s4 is a hell of a car but my good buddy has a cadillac cts v and the interior in those is a hell lot better then the old generation the old cts v was still a nice sedan car but however the cts v beat the s4 buddys cts v has 760 hp and the s4 has 650 to the crank s4 is quatro

I don't understand how you can make an assumption based on the name of my account which I made well over 5 years ago. I personally own a C63... and where you get 80+ is beyond me. The car, with all options, when I was pricing it out, came out to something in and around a tick over 71 if I recall correctly.
My Youtube name resembled my Xbox live name which I used just for easy remembrance.
On top of that all, a CTS-V is nothing special. Anyone can acquire a test drive with a license.

It's actually not IRRELEVANT (and i'm 8 years old?) because build quality has a major impact on a vehicle's performance on the drag strip and the course. If a vehicle isn't built to a high standard you can be sure it won't compete with the best of them, which the CTS-V does. Hence, it runs the ring faster than any other sport sedan due to it's build quality.

BMW are the ultimate driving machine, Anybody that says otherwise is being arrogant plain and simple...I have driven Audi,MB,Caddys and the beemer just feels way more responsive, handles better,shifts are smooth all the way through and the looks are original...MB's are very nice right up there with Beemer's but for my taste BMW car of choice and you don't know it until you drive one.
