@JakeCastle60163 - I work on oDesk too as a Wordpress plugin developer, theme developer, and Python programmer. I've not had any problems because I don't compete with what you called the 3rd world. All of my clients are from the US, UK, and Germany and prefer Americans just as I prefer Eastern Europeans when I hire on oDesk.
You do know that a vast majority of workers on oDesk are based in India, Philippines and Pakistan. How do you feel about having to compete in the global environment where people from the 3rd world are willing to do your job at 1/5th the cost?
@JakeCastle60163 Its never been a problem - most of my employers are from the US and appreciate working with someone in the same time zone, in the same dialect of English, and who does good work for them. At least two of the people I work with tried overseas labor, got frustrated at the language barriers and quality of work, and then hired me.
@JakeCastle60163 That said, some of the hardest working teammates I've had on IT projects have been from China / India: they spoke perfect english, worked 12 hour days, and got ridiculously complex tasks done for the project.

They didn't charge 1/5 my rate, though :)
