I love the vw passat but the 06 models keep breaking down for some reason.... Steering column...fuel pump... but luckily vw stood up and offered extended warranties.
@Aspect2010 yes, like the tfsi engines.. all of them in the 1.2 .. 1.6 range and making between 120 to 170 hp. But i'm sure a certain ford engine which makes 200 hp out of 8 liters !!! is much more impressive.
@Choice777 Well let's not say that about ford cause the Focus ST that's coming out has 2.0L and 247 HP and 260 something LBs of torque haha =P but then again it's Europe engine HAAA!@! xD
wow, I just got back from test driving one, and my biggest issue was the "odd lag" with throttle response. I was just car shopping, liked the look so took it for a spin. Nice car for the most part, but the lag is just a little annoying. I'm sure it's easy to get used to.
Turbo lag? Really? Revving it when it's still cold? My sister has a Passat '04 1.8t and it pulls all the way through the rpms. A regular naturally aspirated engine doesn't pull anymore than the 1.8t does it? They don't have a turbo to push air in at low rpm. I didn't like this review.
Jesus! The cheapest engine you get (2.0 T 200 HP) is the most expensive that we get! I have a Passat with a 1.4 (!) liter turbo boosted engine and a six speed manual shifter with 122 horses under the hood. Enough? For us, yes! After all, gas costs 10 USD per Gallon here. So a big engine woudln't be a wise choice.
Bavarian sound?!!!! That's like calling a Pennsylvanian product something Californian! WOW! How ignorant! Bayern (aka Bavaria) may be the home of BMW, but it is NOT the source of VW! VW is a NORTHERN German car, whose brand is based in Wolfsburg --a city located in NIEDERSACHSEN!!! (LOWER SAXONY) I'm sorry to say this, but "HOW IGNORANT!" At the risk of being confused with Bavaria, I'd go so far as to say that I hope my beloved Nordrhein-Westfalen never produces something to be reviewed by you!
vw made the first production twincharger. it's a 1.4 liter engine that is turbo and supercharged and think it has like 180hp or something. It has impressive fuel economy too.
VW´s policy at using the name "TSI" is kinda weird nowadays.
Before they used to call turbo-charged engines with name TFSI to make some difference to TSI (those with a turbo and also a supercharger). But they have started to call all engines with turbo as TSI-engines.
But still you can actually find a supercharger only in the 160hp- and 170hp(Golf GT)-versions of the 1.4 TSI. Weaker 1.4s, 1.8 and 2.0 are only turbocharged.
To make this even more complicated I have to mention, that Audi´s 3.0 TFSI (sounds like a turbocharged machine to me?) is actually a supercharged car. So, no turbo on board in that case. Although I may have confused you guys, I still hope this sorted things out a little bit.
well if i'm correct, this thing has a compressor and a turbo (supercharged and turbocharged?... explain someone im getting confused)... that's why it feels so much better than a simple turbo engine, (im not 100% sure abt this particular one but the european 1.8 tsi's have it and 2.0 should as well, that could explain the power delivery
my wife has 06 model with tiptronic and 2.0T engine is very smooth. The only source of lag is tiptronic tranny, although on 0-60 it is awesome. Great value for the money.

2.0T is the base engine with 200hp.. 3.6 VR6 is the optional engine with ~280hp. Also the 2.0 is a turbo, so you have more of that power available throughout the range. 207lb/ft of torque from 1800-5000 rpms. This is much more than the 4cylinder from Accord or Camry.
I agree, I own a 07 Passat Wagon w/2.0T. There is hardly any lag except when its very hot outside, and even then its not really that annoying. When one is driving in town its pointless to floor it every time.
i have 1.9 TDI 105HP

My parents have a passat same as this one but is form 2006, its 1.9 S i think that "S" means Sport. TDI
VooDoocs1 1 year ago
@VooDoocs1 The S does not mean sport. It is refering to the spec level of the car.
Your parent's car would be the 1.9TDi S, which is the basic spec

if you use it in the S mode the lag will mostly dissapear or try one with manual gearbox.

Does the Passat 2.0T have the same engine as the Audi A4 2.0T? I'm assuming it does since VW owns Audi.
Nebraskahusker23 2 years ago
yeah, they may or may not be mounted the same though, but same thing. They said that in this vid bro.

@Nebraskahusker23 yes they share engines and other parts makes it cheaper to make the cars and cheaper for us to buy too.

the passat from 0-60 in 7.4, its faster tan the accord 2.4

Yeah but it's priced in the Accord's V-6 range, which it cannot keep pace with.

Yeah, but there is more to a car than its 0-60 time. Drive a dub hard, and you'll know what I mean.

I've driven VWs hard.
And of course the 0-60 isn't the point of the car. I was refuting the ignorance towards the poster of the comment I replied to.
