every mornin 'fore i went to school, i chopped the chickens and fed wood too. wth? no, but seriously, this song rocks. very truthful lyrics and stuff.
I love this song, I listen to it all the time with my granny...and its the truth its like for some kids we are carrying our family. And we wanna make our parents or parent proud...I love this song.
MY DAD PASTED AWAY IN '86. I MISS HIM DEARLY AND WHEN I HEAR THIS SONG IT REMINDS ME OF HIM. I ALWAYS WONDER WHAT HIS LIFE WAS WHEN HE WAS GROWING UP. R I P DADDY.48/63 LUV U FOREVER UR DAUGHTER DIANE W.
I'm a man now, but i wish my dad was there to instruct me and then i could be like Patches. I think of a lot of us men had Patches mentality, we would be a lot further ahead in this life. True song!!!
SUNSET 6/1967 ~ I MISS YOU DADDY AND REMEMBER EVERY THING YOU TAUGHT ME THANK YOU FOR LOVING ME AND MY MOM~I DID NOT SHARE YOUR BLOOD BUT YOUR HEART ~MISS YOU SOOO DADDY ~
@02passionfruit I lost my dad last year of January...I"m 41 and it hurts like i was a kid.....he was a good man. I miss and love him dearly. god bless you...I can relate.
My father made me a cassette, with songs he wanted me to hear -since he is dying. This was the song that opened it up. I began to cry, since some of this song correlates to my fathers life as he grew up. He lived extremely poor in Texas picking cotton by the age 5 with his 7 other siblings, and not seeing the inside of classroom til he turned 12. I think of his hardships, an abusive father etc... And then to see how he raised my brother and myself - I'm proud of him.
@darlingofmisery thats very touching I myself am proud of him a hard life then to raise a smart person :) its a great song reminds me of my step dad a lot...
My dad died 4 years ago and I thought of this song as I heard it years before his passing and it echoed in my mind after his wake. It's a great song and I think it hits home for us all.
Think of my kids when I hear this, they just lost their father much too early, just 3 months ago. They love this song, I know they will hear "my Daddy's voice" for the rest of their lives! Thanks, Clarence.
