  • I think Vee-Jay & Chess along with Atlantic put out some great music back then. I loved the Vee-Jay house band.

  • Hundreds of independent, sponsered labels back then, each catering f for its own local area, they didnt have the vice like control of the UK, we had the Beeb and thats all the mean control freak governments of the day allowed in the UK, US was free to start labels, get

advertis in, and produced thousands of great tracks, blues,of all kinds on obscure small labels, wonderful times.

  • Is that "Walking by Myself"? ...whose version?

  • Jimmy Rogers on Chess. Rogers is generally remembered as playing second guitar on Muddy Waters' records in the mid fifties, but he made some fine records of his own including the original version of 'Walking By Myself' on the Chess label. I wanted to upload this, but almost every Chess item I've put up has been taken down by YouTube after complaints from the so-called copyright holder. And I thought I was actually encouraging others to buy Jimmy Rogers' CDs.

  • Money Marbles and Chalk being one outstandin one of those times.

    G

  • Ive read that both Shakey Horton & Little Walter are on harps on Walikn, a tremendous record, Check out the few John Brim tracks with LW on Harp, Ice Cream Man etc.

    G

  • Pretty sure it's Walter Horton. Check out 'Tough Times' by John Brim which I've put up on my channel.

  • Yes I agree the harp is Walter Horton, maybe my memory banks a bit out of wack on Little W bein there too. Wallin By Myself, for thos interested was recorded 29.10.56 Chess 1643, Jimmy could play harp as well as guitar.

    G
