  • I went there back 1978. Got addicted to the place. Wednesdays were always nickel beer night. Bert Riveria and his band usually played. Alvin Crow played there alot too. I left Austin in 1989 and did not get back to the Spoke until Sept 2009. Got there early on a Friday night and had a big ol chicken fried steak dinner then caught Alvin Crow playing that evening. Neil Flanz was playing pedal steel and what a great sound they got. If they haven't named a street in Austin after Alvin they should.

  • @kcsteeler , Yep it was about '77, '78 when I first get a chance to set foot in the dirtiest bar I 'd ever been to ( and I've been to the Salty Dog in Homer, Alaska!) Saw many a country legend play before their time in the spotlight. Had a wonderful time, except when the bottles started to fly........!!!

  • The first time I showed up (after passing it dozens of times) the place scared the heck out of me, I thought "What a dump!". However, when the sun goes down and food starts cooking and band starts playing... it's AMAZINGLY fun.

  • Show up here at the Broken Spoke on the last Tuesday of the month for the Accordion Roundup - for players and lovers of accordions!!

  • Wish i could.... It`s been too long since we were there!! I love that bar :o)
