I was coaching against her. I didn't believe them until the umps clocked it. She really did hit 65. and it was right down the middle. She only hit it once but the rest of the game her speed was 59 and 60. If you must also know she can't pitch that fast any more. THe next game in the season she got hit with a linedrive and it broke her finger, she's never hit 60 again.

First of all umps do not have radar guns, and if they did they would never use one during a game. So that makes me believe something stinks. Also pitchers don't lose speed over time. She should be pitching high 60's by now if this video was true. Sounds like whoever had a radar gun needs to have it re-calibrated. And they probably had the cheap Bushnell guns. They are the worst and very inaccurate. I'd like to see a recent video of her pitching with about 10 full length pitches.

pretty good! just make sure the back left foot is kept on the ground though, and make sure she is starting with both feet on the mound (which i think she is doing) also, when she is playing catcher (i cant really judge from this vid) but make sure when she goes for a tag at home she is square with the plate with her knees together so there is absolutley no way someone could sneak through her legs and be called safe

Nice play at the plate, but her pitches are illegal. She may get away with that in U12 rec ball, but umpires at higher levels will call that. You should get a pitching coach to work with her to modify her pitching style while she's still young.

ehhh either have her drag her foot, or snap her back leg forward after a slight drag, dragging isn't for everyone, sometimes it can just knock away a players momentum if they don't get it. But maintaining balance with a good stride, she'll be destroying batters like none other especially with her great arm whip. Just work on the crow-hop if you havent already =]

A change up for a 50 mph pitcher = 25-35 mph. A change up should not be thrown all the time. Batters will eventually time them up as well. That is why off speed pitching is so important. The wide range of speed for off speed pitches allows the pitcher to truly create ideal situations by having batters swinging at the wrong time, bad pitches etc... Then fire an inside fast ball and they really will be frustrated, LOL!! Their timing will be totally out of whack, for sure!

The second part is ball movement.

If the first pitch is an inside drop ball and the next a high outside pitch, the batter will not know what is coming next.

If the next pitch is an off speed drop ball, the batter is going to be completely thrown off.

The pitcher should only be focused on the batter. A runner cannot leave the bag until the ball is released from the pitchers hand. If a pitchers fast ball is lets say about 50 mph, their off speed pitch about 40-45 mph.

But ...

To hit an off speed pitch, a batter must be able to hold back until necessary. This is not the easiest to do, especially when the pitcher changes speeds frequently.

If the ball is thrown hard every time the batter will time it up. Just like hitting off a pitching machine.

The machine may be set on the highest speed but after a couple of pitches anyone will time the ball up and when to start their swing to make contact.

Fast-pitch softball is a pitching game just as Baseball is. Slow-pitch is a hitting game.

The basic idea - The majority of pitches thrown should be thrown with a spin that will either cause the batter to swing and hopefully miss and/or if it is hit the spin of the ball will be a grounder or pop up.

I have a friend whos 13 and pitches amazingly every time she pitches the crowd is shocked. She has like 4 or 5 spots where she puts the ball (out, down, middleetc.) focus on the basics, speed wont help very much.  The faster it's pitched the harder it's hit. The changup is one of the best pitches it always messes batters up.

Speed isn't important. For girls her age she needs the basics. First off with the wrist snap and releasing at your hip. If you do not have those down, you cannot move any further ahead. I have some drills I did when I was her age, if you would like to contact me I will greatly send you a description of the drills on wrist snapping etc. But all in all, it's good to have speed, but you have to place the ball in the glove or you will go no where.

I have to agree speed isn't going to get you anywhere when you grow older. The hitters start to get better at time up. Off speed, and putting the ball where it needs to go is where is important. When you grow older, you will only want to throw faster, but throwing to your locations is what will win a ballgame. Good Luck

SPEED IS NOT as important as ball movement, placement & off speed pitches. Anyone can hit a fast ball once they time it up, but it is much harder to hit a fast ball that drops, curves or is thrown off speed. I would have her work on mixing speeds and movement/spin. (I would guess she is throwing closer to high 30s to low 40s at the most, but like I said speed can be hit, fast balls that drop, curve or are thrown off speed are the most effective/important to be a top notch pitcher) WRIST SNAP

Thanks for the input. This was only Rec. ball and generally doesn't crow hop. Once in a while she will, but I'm sure she wasn't up to full speed in this video and was probably hovering in the low to mid 40's here. There were alot of parents complaining that she was pitching too fast for Rec. ball so I know she was having issues at that time slowing down her pitching without getting too slow, such as change-up speed which the girls would then rocket the balls into the outfield at those speeds.
