I'm confused: Why not just leave the original engines on the plane? That would keep it as authentic as possible.
I'm also curious how you ever got FAA permission to land a plane that large on just 7,000' of runway-- at a municipal airport; Jan. 30, 2010? Absolutely amazing, though sad to think it will never fly again.
@B3burner The engines never belonged to the AHM. That they would be removed was part of the sale, although it was made to seem (when the Save the Engines campaign launched) that perhaps they could be purchased and remain.
As for the landing. She was empty, had the top L-1011 crew in the world flying her and besides, they regularly allow Air Force one to land there--747.
@B3burner An empty plane can land on a shorter runway so no issues on that. But I am with you on the deal with the engines. But on the other hand each engine is valued over a million dollars even they are worn out they still multi-million dollar items. Thats why when a plane goes down the engines are the first thing the airlines recovers.
