@nastrael As sorry as I am to hear that it still doesn't change my mind. I have all my personal reasons for joining the Corps which I won't say on the internet due to trolls who start never ending pointless fights. I WILL be joining the Marine Corps.
@alickaboobs Semper Fi is the Marine Corps motto. It's short for Semper Fidelis, Latin for "Always faithful". It's used as a salutation, and a phrase of respect for/to other Marines. Only Marines should be allowed to use it.
I am 14 and am 100% sure I will be enlisting in the Marine Corps the summer I graduate High School. I have a Bronze Star medal from my grandpa from fighting in Iwo Jima and I also have his and my other grandpa's purple hearts. I am lucky that they are still both living strong! Semper Fi!!
I found out Chuck Tatum lives in the same town as I do. Before I left town for college, I drove by his house every day on my way back and forth from highschool. I also found out that his son played little league and was friends with with my dad back in the day, small world we live in.
@mrmastercheif7 I think I prefer The Pacific to Band of Brothers as well. The Pacific seemed to be more negative and BoB seemed a little more positive. The battle scenes in BoB always seemed to favour the Americans, yet The Pacific sort of seemed more in favour of the Japanese like the Peleliu and Iwo Jima landings.
this just shows how spoiled america has become. in the entire iraqi war we lost less that 4000 troops. every one of those is a huge loss, but compared to what previous wars have cost us, 6000 men in a single battle, and yet we complain? and whine? and protest? like that helps them any? we send our reporters into battle with them so they can make big expose's out of every friendly fire accident or injured civillian, like that helps them any? we need an attitude adjustment.
@wadyano People aren't angry over Iraq merely due to the numbers killed. They're angry because the war was waged on false pretenses, is illegal, is likely unwinnable, and is seemingly unending. It's not about how many have died. It's about how many have died needlessly.
However, while we're talking numbers of "injured" civillians: 111,668 documented civillian deaths and counting. Is that not an unconscionable tragedy and moral outrage worth protesting?
@RoboDouche thats right man. civillians get hurt in war. war is hell. bad things happen. but has to be done sometimes. it was not fought under false pretenses. the intelligence of every civilized nation and every american ally confirmed the same as ours, and frankly i don't know how we can say there were no weapons when we went and told the iraqis where we would inspect days before we inspected, every single time, so they had to to clear out. i mean jeez......
@RoboDouche how many civillians were killed when we dropped a nuke on japan? IT ENDED THE WAR AND SAVED MILLIONS OF AMERICAN LIVES! with todays attitude, we'd be thinking about why the japanese hated us and attacked us in the first place, and instead of forcing the enemy into submission and surrender and removing a vile threat from asia, we would have demanded a withdrawl date, in advance, pulled out like a bunch of cowards while the japs bided their time as we left and took over asia.
we need to learn to stop being so queasy and be willing to defend our interests and stick it out til the end, the end being victory alone, or we will cease to exist. other countries have already learned that we have no patience and no stomache. we have become the worlds atm machine and floor mat, being used all over and too worried about what people think.
I want to see a war series from the Japanese perspective, , , I want to see more things like Letters from Iwo Jima. . . We all know that history is written by the victors, i want to hear and see the story from the otherside!
@bananaboi18 I don't think a truly authentic World War two movie from the Japanese perspective will ever happen. This is because there is a lot of controversey, and shame involved with Japan's participation in WW2.
@wilb6657 very true, but i do have to say this for the japanese. when a yeshivah full of jews escaped from poland into shanghai which was under japanese control, the japanese refused to give into german pressure to hand them over for slaughter and hundreds of lives were saved. they have that to their credit at least
there were individual good guys and bad guys among them, like sugihara from japan who saved hundreds of jews by writing visas after it was over, or the german citizens who his neighbors, but for the most part it was one sided. their refusal to hand over the jews was something to their credit, but they did so only because they saw the germans as being inferior to them as much as they saw everyone else and wouldn't obey them. but they were by no means good guys.
If this Chuck guy knew what a pile of shit America turned out to be he probably would've deserted when he had the chance. America was good during WWII and after that it became a bunch of self centered assholes. GOD HATES AMERICA!
@crazycrows1 no sir. we need to show this film to todays youth and show them what america was built on. folks today need to stop asking when am i getting mine? and start asking what they can give, and our schools need to start reviving patriotism and love of country in our children.
This mini series was way too short... Iwo Jima made Normandy look like an old man yelling at kids to get off his lawn...No disrespect for the Normandy vets intended, but you guys broke through in one day, against an enemy that wasn't fighting to the death. This mini series, mentions Iwo in passing and overlooks the severity of that battle. Would love to see Speilberg and Hanks do another Just on Iwo Jima and one just on Guadalcanal....
We had more casualties on Iwo than we have had in Iraq and Afghanistan combined. Were the losses on Iwo considered acceptable? If so. Then why are the losses in the Middle east not acceptable. God I wish liberals knew thier history.
@Spankydaham924 My Great Uncle Charles Woodruff was a corporal in the 11th Airborne division and fought in the Luzon invasion which not only included the horrific and bloody battle for Manila, it also included the liberation of the Los Banos internment camp. He also was and is a life long democrat. If you want I'll give you his phone number and you can tell him all about how liberals don't know anything about military combat history.
@tbone2872 that has little to nothing to do with the point i made. The majority of liberals have no idea what war is all about nor do they care what the intentions are. Is your great uncle charles ashamed or proud of his service? The majority of his party members would choose the former. Why is it that after Vietnam soldiers came home not wearing the uniform for fear of being called babykiller? Who do you think those protestors were?
@Spankydaham924 Of course my uncle was proud of his service as well as his nephew, My father, was proud of his service in Vietnam. My father served in 1966 in the 187th infantry and would tell you for a certainty that first off most of those stories about servicemen being spit on have been generated by popular culture with very little truth to them and secondly it simply isn't true that most of the war protesters against the vietnam war were liberals. (cont'd)
@Spankydaham924 Most of the anti war movement in the Vietnam era came from Vietnam Vets themselves. Events such as the Winter Soldier trials and organizations like Vietnam Vets against the war constituted most of the core Anti War movement in the 60's. In fact most of the anti-Vietnam war sentiment in the government itself came from Republicans like Barry Goldwater, remember the Vietnam war was mostly escalated by the Democrats, Just as WWII and Korea were fought by Roosevelt and Truman.
@ps365gamer plz dont compare heroes that give their life for a country (i have a great respect and admiration for this people, eventhough im not an american- my grandpa was an italian war vet) with a prostitute that devotes his life to degeneration
the first should be praised, the former should be hanged
@mrmastercheif7 Which ones are you talking about? Well, for these veterans here have gone trough really rough combat at least compared to what Afganistan is a childplay! ;)
@mrmastercheif7 Yea, real heroes. Going trough all that shit they did, its hard to even imagine it. They were pretty much going back to stone age when they went to live on some jungle for months, in that muddy foxhole.
@cyberdaemon dude did you see the second to last part of the series? okinawa, muddy rainy shit. they dug foxholes and found bodies in the mud. the japanese put civilians rigged with bombs in front of them. these men went through the wringer and thats putting it lightly
@mrmastercheif7 I saw it all, it was spooky when marine fell down and landed near dead jap, whos body was decaying and full of worms. However, somehow i didn't felt much discust, when that dude droped stones into a dead Tojos skull. I think when you are up agaisnt enemy, that virtually never surrenders you stop caring for them all together. You think: fuck it, they want to die, let them have it. Its good series, better than these half-assed action movies all combined. Still, japs were ppl too.
@cyberdaemon i know what you mean. i liked this a lot more then band of brothers. because with the exception of private bly not many of the characters changed. they didnt go through such a phsychological hell. i think the japs had the same ideology as the covenant from halo. that they are gonna have a great reward when they die
@mrmastercheif7 Band of Brothers was great too, i like them both. BoB was better than Saving Private Ryan, it was more realistic and didn't portray germans as some evil demons, but simply as humans. But i like both shows. I wish someone made same kind of show regards to eastern front and lets say stalingrad, showing it from both sides honestly and not as some propagandistic point of view!
@cyberdaemon yeah i think i know what you mean. stalingrad was one of the most important battles but there isnt enough about it. saving private ryan was good just not as good as these HBO miniseries
@mrmastercheif7 Saving Private Ryan was action-adventure in most of the time. It sometimes feels more like a Call of Duty: The movie, than actual war story. I know that CoD was made a lot latter, but it just feels that at times.

@silverfish9 Do you have any idea how brutal the japanese soldiers were? They were responsible for countless atrocities from 1930 to 1945. Haven't you ever heard of the Rape of Nanking or the Bataan Death March? Watch the interview with R.V. Burgin and see how still feels about the japanese soldier.
@jbcowdery well i hate to say this but any army could carry out atrocities
take the My Lai Massacre during the vietnam war, where US troops literally slaughtered 500 unarmed vietnamese villagers and burned down villages for the simple reason of boredom
ive had grandparents of cousins who had fought in the war in China so yeah i think i understand brutality a little :]
@silverfish9 Well that same year, North Vietnamese soldiers slaughtered 4,000 civilians in the city of Hue. Not to mention all those people they killed after the fall of Saigon.
Now this guy is a hell of a guy. These are the real heroes. he must be over 80 years old, but he reminds me of a guy in his late 40's. he has this spark of energy that tells you that soldiers who fight the evil are damn good guys. So to all you sons of bitches who are out there saying that we shoudnt respect U.S. soldiers, I dont see you out there risking our ass, these men give everything to make sure your safe, so if your not gonna fight in a war, the least u can do, is appreciate them
soldiers from ancient period and till date all are brave. i love soldiers for all nations because soldiers alone serve for own nation without any expectation. he sacrifice his family for nation. so dont blame soldiers ever
I'm ashamed that so many people today have forgotten... Walking around talking about "My freedom to do this, and "my Green-Day induced freedom of speech" trash-talking our country and our principles... Our "freedoms" are nothing compared to the Freedom these men gave their lives and shed their blood for. The day we choose to forget their sacrifice and honor thier memory is the day that these men died in vain... God bless our heroic fighting men!
@ChrsGuit couldnt say it better man, my brother died in iraq trying to save his friend, those trash talking our soldiers should walk a day in thier shoes in combat and see how things really are, i had people protesting at my brother's funeral saying that god wants american soldiers to die...how the hell can this country have fallen in such a disarray that they disrespect the soldiers and those fallen?, i keep in regular contact with his friend in honor of my brother its a bond between families
If America hadn't intervened in Korea, my family and myself wouldn't be living in this great country today. I don't care about all the problems we might face. Crime? Economy? Hell I could be working away as a North Korean prisoner right now.
i went through some pretty traumatic personal stuff when i was 17 and 18, and without my best friend i don't think i would have come out sane..the thought of losing that person......my g-od how did they ever come through this? they are amazing!
HBO should do a vietnam series...they've done world war 2 (brothers in Arms) and iraq (Generation Kill) beautifully. Vietnam is such an important historical war, HBO could capture it in all the brutality...
@NoobSnoopy Why would anyone call this spam?? This is absolutely true. That's why we are the meanest, baddest SOB's on the battlefield. God fucks with his Corps all the time...he loves us. He gives us the old gear, minimal funding, the least amount of everything and we turn it into the finest fighting force on the earth. He even gives us a Navy to get us where we need to be.
Well done Noob. Now we all know why you would not be able to be a Marine.
aznpride303 f#%& you and f#%& off, you would never last in these type of combat situations. Give respect to these Marines who saved your #%& no matter where you are. Back then through the present. We are still kicking #%&. And I'm asian too. Proud Asian-American. You will never understand what these Marines went through. So stfu and give props for these veterans and the Marines of the present and the future. You don't know the brotherhood of the USMC.
i did 10years in the Marines. fought in iraq. these guys lost a ton of marines in that campaign. when ya go to boot camp and all throughout your time in service marines are CONSTANTLY reminded and hear about these men and those who came before them. one day marines will learn about what me and my friends did. why? because we are all we had.
@Tommy1977777 I'm a 15 year old British lad and since I was 8 I have wanted to join the Royal Marines 100% , and I have spent all that time doing my research on weapons, aircraft, combat methods and just seeing what has caused the wars in the 20th and 21st centuries, particularly interested in the Pacific campaign, I've read lots of books such as footsteps in the sand, mien kampf and a helmet for my pillow, I ask as manhy people as I can this but, What is general life like in the armed forces?
Depends on your unit. Sometimes it's boring, especially if you dislike running. Where it really pays off is the camaraderie or the recognition that you get as a Soldier/Marine/etc. STX lanes are pretty fun though.
might sound a bit retarded but guatalcanal, iwo jima, peleliu is just where i want to be but also glad the war ended so i respect the men who died for our freedom
God Bless all of the soldiers that fought in WW2

@mrmastercheif7 Band of Brothers was great too, i like them both. BoB was better than Saving Private Ryan, it was more realistic and didn't portray germans as some evil demons, but simply as humans. But i like both shows. I wish someone made same kind of show regards to eastern front and lets say stalingrad, showing it from both sides honestly and not as some propagandistic point of view!

well i could not be because in my country we dosent train Marines
we only have jaegers pioneers and others.

the japanese, though more fanatical for their cause
lost their friends and family as well
war is hell, and in the end no one truly ever wins
silverfish9 1 year ago 2
@silverfish9 Do you have any idea how brutal the japanese soldiers were? They were responsible for countless atrocities from 1930 to 1945. Haven't you ever heard of the Rape of Nanking or the Bataan Death March? Watch the interview with R.V. Burgin and see how still feels about the japanese soldier.
jbcowdery 1 year ago
@jbcowdery well i hate to say this but any army could carry out atrocities
take the My Lai Massacre during the vietnam war, where US troops literally slaughtered 500 unarmed vietnamese villagers and burned down villages for the simple reason of boredom
ive had grandparents of cousins who had fought in the war in China so yeah i think i understand brutality a little :]
silverfish9 1 year ago

@ChrsGuit As a former Marine, 1969-73, I couldn't agree more.
Well said.
xo51xo 1 year ago
@ChrsGuit couldnt say it better man, my brother died in iraq trying to save his friend, those trash talking our soldiers should walk a day in thier shoes in combat and see how things really are, i had people protesting at my brother's funeral saying that god wants american soldiers to die...how the hell can this country have fallen in such a disarray that they disrespect the soldiers and those fallen?, i keep in regular contact with his friend in honor of my brother its a bond between families

Bless the Marine Corp and all the Armed Forces.
If America hadn't intervened in Korea, my family and myself wouldn't be living in this great country today. I don't care about all the problems we might face. Crime? Economy? Hell I could be working away as a North Korean prisoner right now.
Bless the military and America.

Now we all know why you would not be able to be a Marine.

i did 10years in the Marines. fought in iraq. these guys lost a ton of marines in that campaign. when ya go to boot camp and all throughout your time in service marines are CONSTANTLY reminded and hear about these men and those who came before them. one day marines will learn about what me and my friends did. why? because we are all we had.
Tommy1977777 1 year ago 3
@Tommy1977777 I'm a 15 year old British lad and since I was 8 I have wanted to join the Royal Marines 100% , and I have spent all that time doing my research on weapons, aircraft, combat methods and just seeing what has caused the wars in the 20th and 21st centuries, particularly interested in the Pacific campaign, I've read lots of books such as footsteps in the sand, mien kampf and a helmet for my pillow, I ask as manhy people as I can this but, What is general life like in the armed forces?
renno103 1 year ago
Depends on your unit. Sometimes it's boring, especially if you dislike running. Where it really pays off is the camaraderie or the recognition that you get as a Soldier/Marine/etc. STX lanes are pretty fun though.
