  • Why would a Guatemalan Jesus be Mexican?

  • "The most powerful force that defines religion is society."

And that, folks, is how I knew the next seven minutes would be waffling bullshit.

  • Nice talk but only half true. For example the claim that colonialism is the main reason behind radical Islam stays in contradiction with the fact that Iran which was never a colony and was not artificially created but a state in it's natural ancient borders is the actual champion of Islamism. India on the other hand was a colony for more than a century but did not developed anything similar to Islamism.

  • I find this shallow and pedantic

  • Aslan chooses to talk about Western colonialism & completely neglects to mention the Islamic colonialism that preceded it by centuries. He shrouds his resentment for all things western & Christian in a thin intellectual veil.

  • @tribescribe20

The question was about what shaped Islamist ideology, not christian.

  • Liberation theology is not liberation and is not Christo-centric theology.

A major message of Christianity is contained in Romans and Galatians.

  • This was really geard towards Muslims. He mentioned that "Christianity" isn't a religion, but he ALSO implied the exact same thing for all other religions, including Islaam. He should have mentioned it. Otherwise, this was really good.

  • I wonder what Reza says about the Muslims who live in democratic Denmark, the Salafists, who want to crush the government there and install sharia on all citizens, and are plotting to do so by force.

  • "It is very important to understand that religion is an ever-malleable thing". Yeah it is, but all the books tell you not to do it, so by effect people who take them literally are the people who are reading the books as they should be read. And that's kind of what scares me about it too, because then moderate religious people really don't have any power at all to change the fanatic zeitgeist we are in globally.

  • If it's about religion people will bitch. But I for one found it interesting.

  • How can this idiot say there is no Christianity? He's no expert. Islam is a murderous rapist genocidal cult.

  • @herself311 mainstream Islam and Christianity are adapting to today's political and social views in order to survive as a whole. religious extremist is the "old fashion" people who want to maintain the original teachings of their holy books.

  • @herself311 WOW way to pay attention. By the way the same could be said about Christianity.

  • @herself311 you twist his words, and you are very ignorant

  • Islam is adapting? I feel intellectually raped; I hope 4 YouTubers can corroborate.

  • a Mexican Jesus in Guatemala. get a rope.

  • What an intelligent video !

  • RELIGION IS "FALSE" that what matters

  • Its funny how Arabs refer to themselves as different from others man this is funny as hell.Arabs think they are better than each other and watching them break up into small insignficnt bullshit countries is kinda funny. ARABS know if they unite under one flag like the american states. they will become the most powerful economic country in the world with all that,Iron, oil, uranium, agriculture, all that history with all the tourism.I hate you arabs you have it in your hands but u refuse to unite!

  • @jackblack4738293 Im sorry but there is no such thing as Arabs ! However, there is arab speaking peoples but no Arabs outside the Arabian Peninsula.

A Moroccan has nothing in common with an Iraqi or a Palestinian not even the language not even our understanding of Islam...

  • @jackblack4738293

As much as i object to the disrespectful tone, you make a good point.

  • a speaker of cliches

  • this bloke makes an excellent point. the power of interpretation.

  • how can anyone dislike this mans philosophy?!

  • Maybe we might just instead adopt the alternative spirituality thing that another bigthink video suggested

  • This Muslim's Taqiyya is exemplary.

  • being defensive is an act of survival so save the fancy words and just try to answer this simple question ... who had come to the others land and why did they come!? .... then you would know why a person in Iraq or afghans-tan or even panama is very suspicious when she/he looks at the other and btw ... the affect is contentious!

  • Just reading the comments here, and so far many of them have failed to listen to what this man is saying.

  • Wrong there is only one Jesus and that`s the Jesus of The Bible. People may chose to make their own version of Jesus but there is only one Biblical Jesus and he told us to Love,Forgive help one another.

Compare The Jesus of The Bible to allah of The Quran

  • @FeignofCordor lolz :) Jesus in Islam is the same Jesus of Christianity not someone else ! mmm ... ok! have he born without father ?! is his mother name marayam (Mary) ?! has god give him the bible ?! if so then we are talking about the same person who we as Muslims believes he is the messenger of god just as Mohammed (peace be upon them ).. btw ..do you know that Jesus is mentioned in Qur'an more than Mohammed and do you know that there is a whole "sora" chapter in Qur'an for mar-yam (Mary) :)

  • o! sorry! just one more thing! ..... all Muslims believes in Christianity and who does not is not Muslim! ... Muslims believes that Christianity is part of Islam! ..... :)

  • @MunzirSuliman

I`m sorry but I don`t think you will get many muslims agreeing with you on that. Do you believe Jesus is God?....If you do then you should leave islam and become a Christian however if you don`t think he is God then you don`t believe the Christian faith therefore you don`t believe in Christianity. You can`t have it both ways i`m afraid.

Take a look at the movies on my playlist you might find them interesting i`m also available to answer questions

  • The assertion that religions have to evolve to stay relevant just reinforces the idea that none of them contain any absolute truth.

  • why did the guatemalan have a mexican jesus?

  • seems to me Islam is a mind control to make one big nation out of smaller ones... kind of like how they do everything. they have nothing so use improvised weapons and hostages.

  • @cycophile lol small ones? we ecompass the earth

  • nonsense. utter rubbish. religion is a complete invention. it might be a voice of the people but its nothing more. its complete arrogance to assume you know something another religion dosent or its why those religions "failed." garbage. only cultural groups fail to survive when attacked by stronger rival nations.

  • @cycophile who invented it?

  • @DrzeshanFarooqi who invented religion? humans did of course. god exists in the mental landscape only. matter is not created or destroyed, just changed. never forget that. nothing was needed from any god. humans are god's god whatever name or names you give.

  • @cycophile lol who invented science who invented this earth and evrythn

21:30: Did those who disbelieved not see that the skies/space and the earth/Planet Earth, they were joined together, so We split/ruptured them, and We made/created from the water every thing alive/living,

    so do they not believe?

51:47 And the sky/space We built/constructed it with power/support, and We are extending/spreading.

These are from the Holy Quran; Hubble and Einstein came up with these years later

  • @DrzeshanFarooqi I think humans created the idea of science to try and predict a chaotic reality and make it easier on us. The earth was formed from matter, i dont want to say it was created because this has too many meanings that arent available to be proven. We think there are patterns because we live on a speck of dust and in a very small slice of time. An ant hill is a big deal to an ant but it dosent stop there. I dont see Einsteins equations in a bible, theres a difference here?

  • @DrzeshanFarooqi I think you're find Edwin Hubble and especially Albert Einstein had alot more to say about these points then you mentioned, and the Quran for that matter. To suggest the Quran gave any knowledge in physics is utter caprice and you are not falling anyone. You can continue tricking yourself and other idiots, if you feel better for it. You are only tricking those, that are backwards enough to be tricked by such nonsense. This said's more about you then anyone else.

  • @gunning4fools Again its referring to those Who have Rejected aka YOU 21:30: Did those who reject not see that the Skies/Space and the Earth were joined together and We separated them apart And that We made from the water everything that lives. Will they not believe? its asking you the Question not me!

  • @DrzeshanFarooqi Rejected what?

  • @DrzeshanFarooqi is that that silly verse that's supposed to be about the big bang

  • If these are the kind of people that will be around in the future, we might not have one.

  • If these are the kind of people that will be around in the future, we might not have one.

  • Wait...this isn't Mo Rocca...or is it? I'm confused.

  • Just to be clear, religion is pure but people are sick enough to take advantage of its power over people. Human beings have been blessed with conscience and mentality by God himself for a reason & for people to not use them to consider whether this priest/islamic cleric's words are sensible or not will be considered a sin by God.

  • Religions are corrupted in 1 way or the other, brainwashing people with lies that only benefit them. This has been happening for hundreds of years ever since it was found out that people were gullible enough to believe anything any so called religious man of God clarified. The base of every religion is faith & most religions are similar to one another because of the principles that support this base.Anyone who doesn't consider Reza's words is clearly amongst those manipulated victims of religion

  • Very honest.

  • This is why I love big think

  • He makes a good point when it comes to the malleability of religion depending on location, but I think he misses the obvious conclusion of that statement. Just as good information and methodology in inquiry is convergent, bad ideas and lies will ever be divergent, splitting into ever more, and equally untrue branches of that crappy idea no matter how it is expressed.

  • wwwdotExposingChristianitydotcom

  • Reza clearly loves Religion. I mean, he guy is forever apologizing for it. On the one hand, he'll agree there are many dangerous forms of it, but on the other hand he won't admit that IN ANY CASE having a world-view (no matter how benign) that is based on fantasy and historical mythology is essentially a bad thing. He talks about about ever-malleable religion, but I prefer it when he talks about religion DYING.

  • catholicism used to be "the one christianity" if you're telling me there's not different forms of christianity, such as protestantism, baptist, evangelical and anglican, or eastern orthodox, I'm gonna call you a liar

oh, also there's "roman catholicism" now, which came from the original catholicism

  • Not true. Just reza's typical arrogant BS!

  • @AnnaMishel I didn't know arrogance was synonymous with the truth

  • @ChuckTaylor707

It's not! Reza is about BS and using big words, emphatically, to sling his BS!

People with even "half a brain" don't buy it!

  • not true

  • very true
