Damn dude. Glad I clicked on this video. Solid Start advice from arguably one of the best starters in the sport. I learned a thing or two, that's for sure!
I came back to MX riding after 20-yrs out the saddle. Top vids, great help, and many thanks ..... my riding ain't so bad considering, because I'm simply doin' as I'm told :)
Thanks soo much for the vid! I've been racing for quite some time but I'm no pro. Friday night, I was bored and needed to get pumped up for the race the next day. I figured I'd go through your skills vids and freshen up on some techniques. It got me the hole shot on Saturday's race. Check out my videos titled First Moto and Second moto. I almost got the HS on moto1 and by moto2, I got the HS!! Thanks for posting and a big thanks to Andrew Short for letting us all in on some sweet tips!
dtbkr, you're right. You do get more traction on concrete...if you have STREET tires. Knobbies DO NOT hookup well on concrete, especially when you are starting on it. This is why he says to get your weight back, and I'm not sure if he said this...but you might want to try burning out in your gate too to lay some rubber down, and therefore get more traction off the start.
how am i stupid the 450's dont have dual exhaust. The 2006 and up CRF250R's have them which is what i was saying. by saying "i dont think the 450's have dual exhaust" i meant by they dont.. if you couldnt tell by the tone.
You don't want a back spin on the rear tire .... so you want to be leaning back .. what he didn't talk about is that you can also burn out for more traction, this is my perspective whatever works for you works for you
he is right cause every concrete start i have been on is the slippery shit and they suck but you dont want to burn out cause that takes the edge off you tire for when you get on dirt
@dtbkr Okay jackass, more weight on the back wheel=more traction. When you're on dirt you already have that traction but on concrete if you're up on the tank there's no weight on the rear wheel, therefore, it's going to spin.
if ur talkin bout when they whip the bike.......its so that they land faster than just normal jumping and then they get like WAY better lap times......u should try it, cuz i do it and it works really good
its easy all you have too do to spin the back tire is hold on your front brake and let out the clutch as you put on the throttle. and to trip the bike all ya gotta do is just hit the throttle and slightly pop the clutch until the bike grabes then put the clutch in again so you dont launch your bike lol.

you hold the front brake and let the clutch out and it spins because the front brake is holding you back from going forward
