Please don't talk, clap or WOO during softer songs. Actually, try to avoid it all together while any song is being performed. Do that shit after the song is over.
No. In fact, there are a lot of pretty much purely instrumental bands that put on live shows on do quite well. Concerts are not just about listening to the music live, bro. It's an experience.
@buuski never odd. he creates them, so why wouldn't he choose to play them live? I think there's even more feeling in them when he plays the instrumentals live. In fact, A Warm Place and The Mark Has Been Made are 2 of my fave NIN songs ever.
@buuski some of the greatest concerts I've ever been to have been instrumental shows. mogwai, russian circles, god is an astronaut, and so i watch you from afar... to name a few bands.
The falling action after all the noise, only for there to be another rising action. This album is a masterpiece. And this performance makes me want a "Still", part 2.
it's so awesome that they played the whole album through, and it's amazing that this song is even on this album. it's the perfect break between the onslaught that has passed and the onslaught to come. classic trent reznor, in the middle of all the raging noise, mechanical sounds, hate and despair, a moment of melodic peace.
It's a travesty that this is the first time (and only one of two times) that this song had been played live. It's such a great song and I see no reason why it could not have been played live much sooner than this. This song would've been perfect for the Lights in the Sky tour. Imagine the awesome visuals it could've had. BTW, Thank god the douchebags that are talking at the beginning of the video at least quiet down a bit after the first few seconds....
@thepenguin55 Maybe it could be emotionally straining for Trent , cause this song goes back to a bad time in his life. He could have made it whilst he was incredibly upset.
I just lay down in bed before i go to sleep and listen and all that could have been CD 2 still . All the instrumental versions . And relax. It takes over my body . i feel it vibrating every cell of my body just feels the music. and then i fall asleep . Happier then ever . Its meditative
This song is meant for shooting H and oc. it has other meaning dont get me wroung but "a warm place" opaites make u warm and happy. when i listen to this song sober it brings me down bc i remember how it felt to feel so much confort....thoughts?
This song evokes more emotion than any other song for me I've seen it live three times and every time Trent hypnotized the crowd. On the fragile tour and the downward spiral tour the visuals blew me away. This truly takes me back to a really pure time in my life. A warm place. Thank you.
My god...if i was there, i probably wouldn't have seen the whole thing because I'd pass out by the time this song started. i freaking worshiped this album. still do.
this song is amazing. I've listened to it on loop while going to sleep many years now. it gives such a weird feeling. how the hell can trent give the sense of an actual setting or even location with sound alone (see also the great below, which is kinda like a sequel to this song with lyrics).
This is my favorite Nine Inch Nails song. I'm really bummed I didn't get to see it live. This song gives me such inspiration. I love to just put it on loop when I work on my game designs.
This is hands down the most emotional song Trent has ever made. I love all his NIN creations, but what is it about A Warm Place that makes it so unique that it can amplify your emotion at that time. If your sad, it makes u wanna cry. If your happy, it makes u happier.
Does anyone else agree with me on this, the song is adaptive to whatever your feeling and brings it out from you stronger. Part of the reason why TDS is an EPIC album on all fronts.
You are so right - my favourite NIN song - I'm so glad they played it live - even if I wasn't there - I was there in spirit - it is simply beautiful - it fits everything - I love all of NIN's work but this is something else - my favourite piece of music - it's place on the downward spiral also reminds me that even through the darkest times there is always beauty and happiness still existing somewhere within yourself
@Artie0HC Sometimes I feel like it makes me stronger and of I'm going through any hardship, I know I can find my warm place and make my way back, like I'm invincible.
Completely agree with you there, 100%. This song piece sends me down if I'm already there, and makes me feel content if I'm happy. It's really quite retrospective.
@Artie0HC i agree with most of what you said except its not super original it is pretty close to a cover of crystal japan by david bowie.. dont bad mouth me look at my name im a huge nin fan i just try not to be bias
@Artie0HC - I really agree with ArtieOHC. If I decide to listen to A Warm Place I am entranced and end up listening to it over and over. I can see how it can amplify any mood. I find it the most powerful with reflection.
@Artie0HC well im sitting here listening to this thinking about Paul Grey , one of my icons just thinking about his incredible life. im quite sad and this just makes me sadder.
@Artie0HC I don't quite agree. For me this song represents a sad kind of happiness. Cherishing the happiness you have, while yearning for the happiness you cannot have.
"The best thing about life is knowing you put it all together" (<<< the "lyrics" at the beginning of the song) - this is clearly a positive statement. But the track's vibe is thoroughly melancholic, due to which I've always regarded that statement as deliberately self-ironic. The concept of the album also strongly suggests that.
Trent had the unique ability to see beauty in everything. he is a true artist.
this song... this beautiful song, is life because after all... isnt that what life is? happy, sad, anger, joy? I am in love with this song and i damn mean that.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts. It makes me happy knowing others see how perfect this song is.
this song is so beautiful, and the way it's perfomrmed on this gig, i simply love it, i close my eyes and listen to this song and my mind flyes, i don't know it makes a bit sad too, but i still love it, NIN 4 ever.
thanks a lot to the fans wh didthis, it's an amazing job
To everyone complaining about the fans talking and clapping and cheering... dont like the sounds of a live crowd appreciating the music? Buy the album and listen to that rather than a vid of a live gig! Seen NIN afew times and the crowd have always sung along to the quieter songs like Hurt
The only annoying thing in the recording is hearing people talking in the middle of the song, but it's unavoidable since it's been recorded from the crowd. Yelling and clapping is ok to a extent. Btw great work.
disagreed, i'd rank it among their best. it's essential to the sequencing of the downward spiral, and it's so beautifully calm. there aren't many nin songs that come close to this one. this moves me more than any of the quieter, more ambient moments on the fragile.
I agree with it being on the album. It fits perfectly and I enjoy. i just don't think i could consider this NIN best song.
Anyhow, another question for you. I have been searching for an remix by NIN. I believe it is called the Quiet album. My buddy had it and his computer crashed. i was curious if you have heard of this?
So the fucker who goes "wooooo" at 2:46 did it during the one and only live performance of this song ever. He's just so cool, I hope he got hit by a drunk driver on the way home from the show.
I bet you've never been to a fucking live show, get over yourself.
The best part of being at a concert is the atmosphere and the energy of the crowd, hearing people cheer and scream, it's what makes it such an experience.
I've probably been to more shows this year alone than you ever have in your whole life.
With that being said, I understand cheering and screaming is an important aspect of a live show, but for an ambient instrumental track like "A Warm Place" there really should be no crowd noise whatsoever. I'm all for yelling along to March of the Pigs and such at a NIN show, but not for quiet tracks, especially A Warm Place and Hurt.
@voncorn He isn't the problem. It's the douchebags talking all the way through the performance and the ones that try to clap along to the song that are the problem.
@voncorn hey man, chill out a little bit. If you wanna listen to a live version that sounds exactly like the studio, why not just listen to the studio. And for the record, there are more live performances of A Warm Place.
I love hearing the crowds reactions to these songs as the album progresses. I would've been too bust shitting my pants.
