Not a stupid question at all. I don't own a plow, which one would use to dig one deep furrow and turn the soil up from deep under ground (like 8-12 inches). The disk is designed to cover a six-foot swath instead of one furrow and to stay much shallower. In this case rarely more than 3-4 inches deep, and most of the work I do with my disk is at a depth of even less than that, more like 1-3 inches.
