  • As so often, it takes a few Welsh lads to show the world how to sing an Irish song. How about the Minstrel Boy next?

  • Why are great sounds like this banished to You Tube (All due respects to You Tube), yet every time you turn on the radio it's some numbnuts jabbering rap crap at you?

  • @saxier1 You are so right. This is beautifully done and yet we will never hear it on the radio. I guess that's why I love Youtube. I wish there was a YT scanner that could just keep great music flowing on my radio.

  • Wow

  • fukkin welsh can sing - well done lads

  • watch my vid of me playin dis on de violin!

  • sooooo beautifull.. i cry everytime i hear it.

  • Such a beautiful performance!!

My wife's father passed away this past Sunday at the age of 94. Even though he grew up in Minnesota in the USA, his family was from Ireland. Oh Danny Boy was one of his favorite songs.

  • In heaven, the Germans are the mechanics, the French are the cooks, the English are the police, and the choir is Welsh.

  • @bubbathemusician and the Irish are having a laugh in the pub, perhaps? :P

  • Still the best Damn Version on Youtube . you guys need to do more!!

  • @Ja72corbin We hope to have a CD out later this year

  • @Solstaro wished I could sing with you, lads. I always sing your version on my way back home in my car. Love and greetings from Germany

  • Great job fellas. Keep up the good work. The only thing that could make it better is if you were Irish, but you were brilliant. Nice rendition boys, don't stop working. All my best wishes.

  • I've heard this a hundred times and it's perfect every time!

  • Awesome!

  • Irish song. I love it

  • Thanks for the goosebumps.. Awesome, this was my Grandpas (Dan) favorite song Now I play it for my sone (Danny) Who is named after him! Great song, tear and all and thank you for that!!

  • Love this.

  • Amazing!!

  • This is beautiful, thank you, dudes.

  • Londonderry Air was what it came to be known as. The name of Ol' Rory's tune was O'Cahan's Lament.

  • What a thrill! Perfect!!!!

  • RIP Dan Wheldon, 6-22-78, to 10-16-11, tragically killed in a race at Las Vegas. He won 2 Indianapolis 500 races, in May 2005 and May 2011. Gone much too soon.

  • 52 o bena bach!!!

  • excellent work, boys. The Emerald Isle would be pleased, not to mention anyone who loves Londonderry Air. You've got some great tenors here. As one of the only female "tenors" I know, I had a great time singing along. If you guys feel the urge to post any other pieces, don't hold back.

  • it sucks because im not a tenor so i cant reach those notes. with good tone that is, but when i go down an octave my voice cant get the really low notes, even though i sometimes sing bass. not a good song for baritone :( (melody at least)

  • This is such a perfect version, my Grandad loved it sang like this. Thank you, for helping me keep that memory of him.

  • Beautifully Done!!! Thanks

  • I first learned this song in my college choir, and it was everyone's favorite song that we practiced. :)

  • English, Irish, doesnt matter. This is my father's song, and his father before him, and someday it will also be mine. Thankyou for this one lads!

  • I had a longing to hear this tune and the picture of your video seemed to look like a bunch of guys who knew what to do woth a traditional song and not make it all showy. I was not however expecting to be blown away by those beautiful harmonies. Absolutely amazing job.

  • Beautiful!

  • Coming from a family of true Irishmen and women, this warms my heart, and saddens me as I reflect upon no longer hearing my Grandfather's sweet tenor ringing through the house cheerfully as he sang. Thank you for doing the song justice.

  • Love this. My dad used to sing this lovely song as his party piece whenever we had a family get-together. This song, and Mountains of Mourne, always make me well up. Thanks boys.

  • Brilliantly done guys. The best rendition I've heard of Danny Boy in ages.

  • Beautiful rendition, I actually had to snap to and not cry as my mind drifted to a departed loved one. I dont even know much about Celtic anything, I know a beautiful song when i hear it though.

  • how 2 kkill a song

  • Beautiful! Looks can be very deceiving.

  • The contrast between the look and cool behavior of these Guys on one side and the fantastic singing on the other makes this Video quite bizarre! Deeply Impressed, greetings from Germany!

  • Singing the way you do without going out of tune is quite difficult. My best congratulation, I very much love this song full of pathos. It brings me back to Ireland when I was young with so many dreams in my heart. Thank you very much for the memories you made me think of.

These guys actually make me think about what a true gent and respectful man my grandfather as always been. May god bless you and carry on with those amazing voices you have.

  • Beautiful!

  • I now need Prozac. That was AMAZING!! Fabulous voices. Love from NC

  • Beautifully sung and with great feeling for the words of the song. Great to hear three celtic males from Wales sing an Irish song. See also an Irish choir and two Irish tenors sing an arrangement by Jonathan Quick of the beautiful Scottish song 'Loch Lomond' on youtube Pfizerpfonics.

  • @1carrigdhoubh

Not an Irish Song...written by an English lawyer. A Wonderful song anyway but refers to a father saying goodbye to his son. Shropshire has the most beautiful scenery next to the Welsh Snowdonia. Land is gorgeous.

  • @crumbawart

Forgot to Add...very well done chaps.

  • @crumbawart Agreed the words were written by an English lawyer, The air is an ancient Irish melody 'The Derry Air or 'The Londonderry Air' . The origins of the music is claimed to be from the County Tyrone. Words without music is a poem.....words with music equals a song, hence the Irish claim on the song. Poem or Song, English or Irish, it touches the heart strings.

  • Beautifull! I need to sing this for music in school!

  • @samueljyap Thanks for the tip. I just listened to Hayley Westenra for the first time. All I can say is "WOW"! She sings like an angel and has the face and personality to match. Thank you, thank you! But I still maintain that historic facts prove that Danny Boy IS a song from a father to son (big friendly grin!) That being said, Hayley brings a whole new facet to that statement. Again, samueljyap , thank you!

Check out Liam McNally from Britain's got talent. It should bring tears to your eyes

  • WHOW! makes me wish I could visit the old country again. Great job!

  • Lyrics (con't)

And if you come, when all the flowers are dying

And I am dead, as dead I well may be

You'll come and find the place where I am lying

And kneel and say an "Ave" there for me.

  • Lyrics (con't):

And I shall hear, tho' soft you tread above me

And all my dreams will warm and sweeter be

If you'll not fail to tell me that you love me

I'll simply sleep in peace until you come to me.

I'll simply sleep in peace until you come to me.

  • need a fourth to make it a true barbershop?

  • You are uniquely gifted. You sing from the soul of Ireland.

  • That was impressive. I like it, keep singing fellas.

  • BEAUTIFUL!!!

  • Wonderful. Best version of the song I've heard in a long time.

  • beautiful excellent job

  • OMG, this was the most beautiful rendition of Danny Boy that I've ever heard! I'm actually crying!! I have always loved this song and even named my son Daniel because of it...and I'm not even Irish!! Bravo, bravo...

  • @dwtaylor: thanks for the correction. But I'm sure if you hear Sissel or Hayley Westenra sing this wonderful song, you too will also be initially convinced that the song was made to be sung by a woman. But the language of love is universal, and we agree that this song is really great and heart-moving, no matter who the singer is, as long as it is sung from the heart....

  • WOAH was not expecting that. Bravo.

  • This song has always held a special place in my heart. I have heard it performed by countless artists, yet all of them pale in comparison to this rendition. And that is being compared to some of the finest voices on this planet. Many thanks to the artists that performed it. Now I am going to play it again for the fifth time and try to keep the tears from flowing.

  • Fantastic!
