A wonderful performance-I am really astonished how good this young musicians are playing-hope that we can hear this masterpiece soon with the same conductor leading a world class orchestra!!
The opening march of the Elgar 1st (to 4:04 in this broad reading) can be said to be a summation of all of British Romantic music. These young musicians acquit themselves very well indeed. (I wonder if under Wisconsin's current regime they even still have a music program at Madison - or any other campus of the U. of WI...)
@AJNorth Of course there is a music program, Madison's music school is very well established and ranked in the top 25 US music schools. Other UW schools have music departments too, with Eau Claire's being particularly strong.
The time of the video made me think this was going to be the wonderful second movement. But who cares, I love the theme of the first movement, too. :P
