As others have mentioned, but it bears repeating: the 1-661-380-3000 number is a Skype trunk line. A call from that number could very well be from someone you know. You can try this yourself. Call someone using Skype and ask them what number shows up on their phone. The odds are good that it will be this number.
I got a call from the SAME Person and the 510-943-3040 number claiming to be from College Now and that they are trying to get me a college grant to get me maximum money and that I was from New Mexico when I don't have my phone number listed on any of my scholarship information that is online with 2 reputable scholarship places. They even went so far to 'transfer' me to a rep who sounded like she was from New York or New Jersey. I've been getting calls from them repeatedly for the past week ugh

When they call just say "hold a minute so I can load my computer." Then put the phone down somewhere and do whatever you were doing. If they are still there after 15 minutes tell them it is still loading and put the phone down again.
If we all waste their time they may give up this scam.

Luckily I have an android phone with " Mr. Number Call Block " application installed. It just hung up automatically on 661-380-3000 the first ring & does on other spam, telemarketers, debt collectors etc. and does it very well. In 1 year no unwanted calls have gotten thru and no false positives. It will also block entire are codes. You can put in 800, 900, 806, etc & it will block every number from those area codes and you can block individual numbers, Highly recommend & it's a FREE application.

Take note: This scammer is also connected with the guy that is scamming people saying he is a "federal attorney" and they owe money to a payday loan or cash advance service and that the police will be at their house if they do not pay the money they owe....if you have applied online for any cash advances there is a pop up virus that steals your info and this is how they get your number and info! Other number is 508-475-1957 it is the same scam ring working the east coast!

I totally got a call from them (661) this morning as I was asleep & some guy with sort of a lispy kind of accent answered talking about the line couldn't be reached & to report any malicious activity to the authorities! A police call? Maybe they caught this person this morning? Either way I called back after reading all this & watching the video to see what really would happen & ya were right!
They just called me and told me that they are calling me from the company Kitchen Design, and ask - are you decision maker for the company, after my answer, the guy laughed out loud and hang up on me
I figured it was a scam when I answered the call. The guy spoke in a heavy East Indian voice, but calling from California. I asked him where he was calling from. He ignored my request three times when I threaten to hang up. He said he is calling from India, but the phone number is American. I said, please don't call back. I don't want to buy anything. If you're techno-savvy and you get one of these calls play dumb but don't go all the way and get the information needed so we can nail these bastards.

Er, the number in question is no a scam number, its one of the many numbers used by the the VOIP (online telephone call service) Skype. The callers were certainly scammers, and you should never trust anyone asking for money or information without confirming yourself (in this case calling MIcrosoft using one of the company's real customer service numbers), but the number isn't specifically fraudulent.

I just got a call from the 661 number and it was my husband at his office 15 miles down the road using his skype to call me. These numbers are NOT linked to bad people but bad people take advantage of skype to remain anonymous. Your intent was valiant but the number wasn't the problem. The bad guy using the number was the problem.

I been getting calls from numbers like this for the past year. Not once have they spoken a word. I just got one a few seconds ago, all it did with let out a tone then say "goodbye" this one was from 1-510-943-3040. I get about one call a day compared too a few months ago, which was 2 calls a day. Its completely annoying. Just received this call and the woman (sounded japanese) was very hard to listen to. The phone was being shuffled around and all staticy. I wanted to listen because it was so irregular. She said my computer was infected with a virus and that they could help. I asked how they knew my computer was infected and she said they were sent an error message. I told her my computer didn't have a virus and then she hung up.
This is so funny. I keep reading how people are so glad they didn't answer their phone when this number showed up and averted a virus and such. Again I ask, is your phone connected to your computer or do you know yourself so well that you are sure you would provide the caller with your information and ip address? Internet phone services are not magical. They just do not use specific id numbers of callers.
Here's one for you. What if by reading these posts the scamer is hacking into your computer. Imagine that. Seriously, just because someone is using an internet phone service, does not mean they are hacking into your computer, That is just plane stupid. Is your computer even hooked into your phone? Just don't give them your information. Ask who they are just like a normal call. Again, this number will come up with someone just using skype. It's no big deal.
I am in no way defending any scammer however... This is just one of the several numbers that come up when a service like skype is used to make outgoing calls. I sometimes use skype to make calls when I am out of range for my cell phone but I get wifi. People, if you do not understand the technology, stop spreading false information. Answer the phone just see who it is! Duh!!!

I just got a call from 661-380-3000, I never answer any out of code calls that I get, I always go on line to look the number up and it has almost always been reported as some marketing number that others have complained about.
These numbers are used by the internet phone services such as skype. The very same numbers posted here come up when my children use SKYPE to call me.
It could be a "real" urgent call from someone you know. Besides, when someone calls you, you are in control, they can't magically gain access to your computer just because you answer the phone. Use your head, just don't cooperate and hang up if you do not know them. Answer your phone, it's still safe!
This is for real, I just receive a phone call from this number claiming that I have an XP computer generating lots of errorrs and they willl help me fixing it.

661-380-3000 is a Skype number. It could be anyone calling using Skype including a friend or family member. I had misplaced my cell phone so I used Skype to dial it. When I found it, this is the number that appeared on the caller id.
The scammers are probably also using Skype so that their number cannot be traced. Perhaps if you contacted Skype with the exact time of day, number that appeared on your caller ID and call duration they would be able to track down the abuser's account.

I just got this call in Canada. Guy said he was from "MS Windows" and they were getting a lot of "error messages" from my computer. I said, "I doubt that." He said, "Yes, we are. I can help you re-set your computer and that will fix it. If you don't do it, within one hour, your computer's hard drive will be completely destroyed." I said, "Have a nice day." and hung up.
They want to get control of your computer and use it as a SPAM MACHINE.

1-510-943-3040 is an access number for routing international calls cheaply. The call will originate from outside of the USA from a completely different number, and use this access number to connect the call to you, the recipient of the call.
UK dialler - dials 0207 xxx xxxx (local access) converts to---> 5109433040 -----> you! So its not a scam number, but, as it is used to route calls, it appears to be the number that is calling, when in truth its just a LCR (least cost routing) number
@radionut63 Its an access number - it can be used for good or bad just like any telephone number can. Its probably a gateway used by 20,000 users concurrently. The best course of action would be to contact the underlying carrier providing the route access, who could then obtain details of the originating caller and block their outgoing calls using this access number. I appreciate your frustration, I spend every day shutting these 'morons' down at work.

they have been ringing every one in our area of South Australia for Months now, The calls all come from Indian call centres, they even call themselves Microsoft, first words are we have been monitoring your computer & it is infected , blah, blah blah & so on. They have rung me more than 5 times now.
This has been going on in the UK also. My father got called about it. A friend also got called about it. Luckilly in both cases they guessed they were being lied to before they handed over control of their machines.

I just got three late night calls from: 661-380-3000 which is a Bakersfield area code. I didn't answer, but happen to know a few people in the area code. It looked like a business line so I ended up here. -Shady.

Just got the call here in Victoria BC. Guy named Peter from Microsoft said they were getting error messages from my computer. I asked which computer as we have multiple in this house. I was on my laptop at the time and there was nothing unusual going on. He said just said again it was my computer. He had a tough time understanding me and I had to repeat myself multiple times. I didn't answer and no message was left so out of curiousity I googled the number just now and it brought me here. I would never give any information of follow instructions given to me by some random caller to begin with but WTF do they think they're going to accomplish by calling someone at a quarter till midnight(my time)?

Take note: This scammer is also connected with the guy that is scamming people saying he is a "federal attorney" and they owe money to a payday loan or cash advance service and that the police will be at their house if they do not pay the money they owe....if you have applied online for any cash advances there is a pop up virus that steals your info and this is how they get your number and info! Other number is 508-475-1957 it is the same scam ring working the east coast!

I totally got a call from them (661) this morning as I was asleep & some guy with sort of a lispy kind of accent answered talking about the line couldn't be reached & to report any malicious activity to the authorities! A police call? Maybe they caught this person this morning? Either way I called back after reading all this & watching the video to see what really would happen & ya were right!

I figured it was a scam when I answered the call. The guy spoke in a heavy East Indian voice, but calling from California. I asked him where he was calling from. He ignored my request three times when I threaten to hang up. He said he is calling from India, but the phone number is American. I said, please don't call back. I don't want to buy anything. Please take my name off ur list. He got mad at me, claiming I was being racist because he's East Indian. Wow!

BS . This is one of your SKYPE contacts calling. Because of YOUR settings, all SKYPE calls that go unanswered transfer to your cell phone.

Er, the number in question is no a scam number, its one of the many numbers used by the the VOIP (online telephone call service) Skype. The callers were certainly scammers, and you should never trust anyone asking for money or information without confirming yourself (in this case calling MIcrosoft using one of the company's real customer service numbers), but the number isn't specifically fraudulent.

I just got a call from the 661 number and it was my husband at his office 15 miles down the road using his skype to call me. These numbers are NOT linked to bad people but bad people take advantage of skype to remain anonymous. Your intent was valiant but the number wasn't the problem. I been getting calls from numbers like this for the past year. Not once have they spoken a word. I just got one a few seconds ago, all it did with let out a tone then say "goodbye" this one was from 1-510-943-3040. I get about one call a day compared too a few months ago, which was 2 calls a day. Its completely annoying. Its depressing how every gets to talk to a person, I wouldn't mind listening to a funny accent besides Canadian once and a while... lol

Just received this call and the woman (sounded japanese) was very hard to listen to. The phone was being shuffled around and all staticy. I wanted to listen because it was so irregular. She said my computer was infected with a virus and that they could help. I asked how they knew my computer was infected and she said they were sent an error message. I told her my computer didn't have a virus and then she hung up.

This is so funny. I keep reading how people are so glad they didn't answer their phone when this number showed up and averted a virus and such. Again I ask, is your phone connected to your computer or do you know yourself so well that you are sure you would provide the caller with your information and ip address? Internet phone services are not magical. They just do not use specific id numbers of callers.

Here's one for you. What if by reading these posts the scamer is hacking into your computer. Imagine that. Seriously, just because someone is using an internet phone service, does not mean they are hacking into your computer, That is just plane stupid. Is your computer even hooked into your phone? Just don't give them your information. Ask who they are just like a normal call. Again, this number will come up with someone just using skype. It's no big deal.

I am in no way defending any scammer however... This is just one of the several numbers that come up when a service like skype is used to make outgoing calls. I sometimes use skype to make calls when I am out of range for my cell phone but I get wifi. People, if you do not understand the technology, stop spreading false information. Answer the phone just see who it is! Duh!!!

These numbers are used by the internet phone services such as skype. The very same numbers posted here come up when my children use SKYPE to call me.
It could be a "real" urgent call from someone you know. Besides, when someone calls you, you are in control, they can't magically gain access to your computer just because you answer the phone. Use your head, just don't cooperate and hang up if you do not know them. Answer your phone, it's still safe!

661-380-3000 is a Skype number. It could be anyone calling using Skype including a friend or family member. I had misplaced my cell phone so I used Skype to dial it. When I found it, this is the number that appeared on the caller id.
The scammers are probably also using Skype so that their number cannot be traced. Perhaps if you contacted Skype with the exact time of day, number that appeared on your caller ID and call duration they would be able to track down the abuser's account.

I just got this call in Canada. Guy said he was from "MS Windows" and they were getting a lot of "error messages" from my computer. I said, "I doubt that." He said, "Yes, we are. I can help you re-set your computer and that will fix it. If you don't do it, within one hour, your computer's hard drive will be completely destroyed." I said, "Have a nice day." and hung up.
They want to get control of your computer and use it as a SPAM MACHINE.

1-510-943-3040 is an access number for routing international calls cheaply. The call will originate from outside of the USA from a completely different number, and use this access number to connect the call to you, the recipient of the call.
UK dialler - dials 0207 xxx xxxx (local access) converts to---> 5109433040 -----> you! So its not a scam number, but, as it is used to route calls, it appears to be the number that is calling, when in truth its just a LCR (least cost routing) number

@radionut63 Its an access number - it can be used for good or bad just like any telephone number can. Its probably a gateway used by 20,000 users concurrently. The best course of action would be to contact the underlying carrier providing the route access, who could then obtain details of the originating caller and block their outgoing calls using this access number. I appreciate your frustration, I spend every day shutting these 'morons' down at work.
