actually this song is played with doug youle and his brother playing drums because the band was falling apart during recording loaded but the song is made by lou reed :) amazing and a great song
Doug Yule has gotten his share of grief, but his role in the band on this and the previous album are indisputable. By Loaded, he was holding the band together as Lou lost interest.
Alan White from Yes sitting in on drums(?) as Mo Tucker was pregnant during recording. Also some extra percussionist in there. Only three chords repeated C-Bb-F all the way (apart from the F-C ending) but bass line variations makes it memorable 7 minutes from what was a great album (and even better in the Fully Loaded package). A strange band it was and impact it had on most who took time to listen. Doug Yule may not equal John Cale on the grand piano but for sure a great rock bass player.
I have no idea, probly cuz of the name, people who dont know them are probly like "velvet underground, hmm must be a badass band. Hey i like that, Im gunna make something called punk music and give birth to soul less shitty music of the early 21st century"
Go listen to Velvet Underground and Nico and you'll understand. All those garage psychedelic songs talking about the darkside of NYC, that was punk rock. Nobody ever sang about prostitution, hard drugs, dirty sex and gay love before Lou Reed. It was provocation, and this is what punk's all about. No wonder why the VU played in CBGB.
If you think US punk rock is just some drunks yelling in mic, then you should read a book about that beautiful 70's scene
This brilliant song was ignored initially, but has most definitely stood the test of time. By the way, the album cover is incorrect. This appeared on "Loaded."
easily my favorite Velvet Underground song

Well i guess you don't really know the VU

Thanks for the post. Used in the film 'High Fidelity' I think, which has a pretty good soundtrack.
