It is a try. If you watch the angle at 3:35 ROG drops it backward, it goes forward off Kaine Robertsons knee, and then O'Gara scores with his right hand. Very lucky, but no infringement
If you look very carefully it is a try!!!!! the ball goes back by O'Gara and then is knocked back by an Italien leg which means O'Gara was able to put his hand on it, its a TRY!!!!!!! fair and square, well done TMO
hate to say it guys, but it was never a try. but on the other hand, ireland have had enough shit go against them over the years. unfortunately this was the last warm up game before WC 2007 and karma came back and bit us on the ass!! not very optimistic about 6 Nations 2009!!
@bonoman1982 lol ireland won it hahahaha thanks for the good karma you gave us :) by saying your not very optimistic about it and look, ireland won there first one in 61 years hahahahaha
You would have to be optically challenged to think that that was a knock on. From the side on view: If the ball goes to the LEFT it is NOT a knock on. If the ball goes to the RIGHT it IS a knock on.
As is obvious the ball goes LEFT and hits the Italian players leg - PLAY ON. While still moving, O'Gara controls and grounds the ball. IT WAS A TRY.
Anyone who believes otherwise is either a sore Italian or simply does not know or understand the rules of rugby union.
the ball does begin to go backwards, but while still in the air it makes contact with both players legs and lands forwards. the ball went into the air before the line and lands past it, it was a knock on, o'gara didnt ground the ball until it had already been knocked on
I know its scant consolation for us Irish, but remember that we lost the 6 nations twice this year on the last day, on last minute tv ref decisions that really were 50/50 at best. Italy's try against in rome was arguably a double movement and france's try against scotland in paris was not clearly visible as a grounding from any tv angle.
If only either of those went our way and this one went against us.....
the ball went backward, & o'gara then grounded it so its a try. ref never asked about the forward pass, thats the way it goes and you do have to feel sorry for the italians... until you remember they obstructed murphy off the ball to steal the previous try. so they got lucky with that call, lost out on this one. thats the nature of the game. the interesting thing about the RTE commentary is that the bbc lads were happy enough with the try; dont know if anyone saw the bbc footage?
yeah i seen the rte and bbc coverage..true bbc taught it was a try but rte didnt..it was a try , the vid ref looked long enough 2 see nothing illegal happened and rog gounded it..try.
a mile forward really if the ref was better that would of been a win for italy so i say italy wins this hahaha ireland suck no chance for the world cup after their last two dreadful performances
I was deadset sure that this was a shocking decision, but then at about 3:44 I thought perhaps it could be an alright call. Considering that the ball goes BACK from his hands, then forward and to ground off the Italian players legs.. So, perhaps it's alright? A whole lot of doubt though, and probably shouldn't have been given simply for the fact that Trimbles pass was forward! :P
I think the original pass was dead flat. The replay doesn't show it well. But the grounding seems clear to me... ROG loses the ball, but as long as it doesn't go forward relative to the movement of the player, it's cricket. And any forward motion did come from the defender. ROG ground a ball in play at the last second. Watch the Italian commentary, they ironically said it was fair enough! Cheers, Sincero
the scoring pass was forward anyway...

The ball headed towards the line off of an Italian leg, there's no knock on there, very clearly a try.

No, it wasn't. ROG knocked the ball back, it came forward off a leg and was then grounded on the line.
Incredibly clear-cut.

its not a knock on. the ball pops out and gets kicked into the try are by an ITALIAN BOOT, so i dont see what the commentators are talking about
roganisafag 4 years ago 2
the ball travels forward before it hits an italian boot........so yes it is a knock on!

no, it doesn't.

The ball VERY CLEARLY goes backwards before being kicked forward by an italian boot.
At 1:32 O'Gara loses the ball at hte bottom fo the 2nd N in Guinness, when it is kicked forward it is in the middle of the 1st N
