I am putting a 500# safe in my office. We have "i beam" manufactured floor trusses set 24" apart. Do I need to strengthen my floor, or will it handle the load?
People that work hard "pyhysical" jobs would know soft is good. If a builder is like "I used bigger lumber to stiffen that floor" means that they don't spend much time walking on that floor while building it. If you spend 8-12 hrs a day on a "stiffened" floor, you will learn to hate them. Builders that don't realize this are the wanna be part timers, like off duty firemen, of just any random guy with a truck that calls themselves builder and sits in his truck on the phone all day.
@d1incharge thats such a stupid thing to say, just because they don't walk on the floors they build doesn't mean they haven't worked a hard day in their life.
that guy in the truck is a truck driver not a builder and wont call himself a builder
and majority of builders will work a full 7-5 hour days everyday not slacking.
Floors are designed with lasticity moron. Some people prefer to max out the lasticity because it is much better for their back, unlike walking on concrete. People, especially builders that talk about having a stiff wood floor are idiots that obviously have never worked hard a day in their life, or they would realize soft is good. Also, your method of brigding is old and retarded, using solid blocking(scraps from cutting floor joist) is how builders have been doing it for at least 50 years.
@d1incharge Sorry this took so long. I am the New National Sales Manger for Luxor Wood Products. You are so correct in saying that using solid blocking, scraps from cutting floor joist is how builders have been doing it for at least 50 years. We all know that the conventional bridging fails at some point, it loosens after a period of time. Using IBS 2000 FOR RETROFIT, OR IBS 3000 TO REPLACE CONVENTIONAL BRIDGING IS A GOOD BUILDERS BREAD AND BUTTER. A bouncy floor is a consumer nightmare.

seems like overkill to have steels braces inbetween every joist.
