  • Great rendition, definitely helpful in learning the song.

  • @hek7 Thank you for your interest and kind words. Ya, not exactly a note for note cover of Ry Cooder's rendition but many of the elements are there. I manily learn the vocals and melody line first. Then I enjoy the process of exploring the fingerboard and discovering the possibilities. What I feel emerges is a a song better suited for your self. Enjoy your practice, Keni Lee

  • Decent guitar player, total prick as a person, I won't check out anything else you do. You seem to come from the iron curtain somewhere, ignorant person.

  • @stevies5 Thank you again for your comment. I am assuming you are a child and not an adult by they the way you conduct yourself in a public forum. If you don't like people replying or emailing you, don't write to them first. I can simply remove your comments and block your posts. So, why not try respecting people and you will be treated in a repectful way too. Insulting people and calling them names is not necessary.

  • Is this another auto response? WTF man, your stuff is good, you sound like a machine in your responses and I think you have a bot set up to do that.

Tell me this, what time is it right now in Scotland..

  • I'd rather you didn't reply to people who rate your playing. If you can't take the time, that'sok but lose that auto response neebur. It's terrible.

One other thing, would be good if you changed it from "Vijooolante man" To Vijiiiilante man"

  • @stevies5 Thank you for taking the time to reply. I will repect your input here. I represent myself and other vendors. I send out information to anyone who comments on my page. Feel free to conduct buisness on your own page any way you like too. Possibly, you should consider spending your time in a more constructive way by working on your own page, then wasting it, by visiting other people's page and offering your baseless advice. Please post your rendition of Vigilante Man, if you can. Savvy?

  • Great stuff. More power to your elbow neebur.

  • @stevies5 Thank you for your comment. Enjoy.

  • awesome!!!!

  • @bluespower Thank you my friend for your kind words. Wishing you and your loved ones Health, Wealth, and Prosperity during this Holiday Season and throughout the New Year. Enjoy.

  • Wow--this is one of those times that I come across something accidently on YouTube and am just riveted.

And I had and loved the Ry Cooder version of 40 years ago.

    Beautiful (and mean guitar pickin'...)

  • @loge10 Thank you very much for your comment. Your kind and encouraging words are greatly appreciated. Sorry about the delayed reponse. I just returned from a 15 day trip to China. Happy Hoildays. Enjoy, Keni Lee

  • The setting the tune the playing the voice the whole package; sweet music to the soul of the man. Keep on ramblin'!!

  • @fngrpkn06 Thank you. It is nice to hear. I try my best to create my renditions. I also try to stay true to the spirit of the time. Enjoy.

  • I think you have done agreat job here, youve made it your own song, atmospheric black and white video suits the sound and image.

  • @8096446 Thank you for your comments. I figured out long ago, I can't copy and play like anyone else. My lessons are a recreation of my re-learning of guitar by applying muscial theory and building a firm foundation in basic technique. It was from this standpoint, I was able to create myself. Additonally, just like restaurant ambiance is related to the enjoyment of a fine meal, I've been trying to produce visual art as well. I appreciate your interest and encouragement. Enjoy.

  • Bravo, Keni!

  • Keni I believe I will need you to do the soundtrack for my movie, I thought of Ry Cooder but he just dosen't seem to have the right sound for it.... Now if I just had 150 million to make the film...

  • @DONALDADUNN Thank you for your comment. The story of my life...a day late and a dollar short. Well, I am here brother when to you find the mother load. Enjoy.

  • never mind what makes a woman viVigilante ...as in EVE SAYITH...take my wife and take my children.

  • @TheFriedLiverAttack Thank you for your comment. Enjoy.

  • very nice rendition of "vi-jew-lante" man. i'm a big fan of your videos, you always pick great songs to cover and you always play em well. keep doin what you're doin!

Your performance is also great wonderful!

  • @ramjhi Domo Arigato. Thank you for taking the time to leave a kind comment. Enjoy.

  • I love it, great song. Great vid, very nice picking.

It always brings a smile to my face when listening to this one.

  • @13Mazar Thank you for your kind words and encouraging comments. I am glad to hear you enjoyed it.

  • This is what I call total mastery of the blues genre of guitar playing - Fantastic !!

  • Thank you for your kind and encouraging comment. Enjoy.

  • hey keni it's great just like always.i'm really happy that there are still true bluesmen

  • @TheBalvis Thank you for calling me a true blueman. That is a very fine compliment indeed! Although, I do not cover the original artists note for note, I believe I capture their essential spirit. Oddly enough, this came about because I needed to find my own method of playing that would work for me. I took a backward step and tried learning from the ground up. You got to find what works for you. My teachers helped me understand this. Don't try to be someone else. It will never work out. Enjoy.

  • awesome! can't compare to ry cooder, but who could? you've got your own flavor. i dig it.

  • @digitaldown Thank you for your comment. LOL Well, Mr. Cooder has some real big shoes to fill, but even he is just covering Woody Guthrie too. Enjoy.

  • waooo ! great

  • @ice5562 Thank you for your comment. Enjoy.

  • man brother you just keep gettin'

    better and better

  • great playin'

  • Thank you for your comment. Enjoy.

  • Beautiful. A powerful song, done powerfully.

  • Thank you for your comment. Best of Health and Wealth in 2010. Enjoy.

  • Bravo!

For a long time, I heard no tune that captured me so fast. Keep up the good work!

  • Thank you for your comment and encouragement. Enjoy.

  • What kind of guitar is that? What an unusual, interesting tone! Sounds quite much like a banjo.

Great playing and singing, by the way. I really like your voice, sounds very natural and sincere.

  • Thank you for your kind words and question. This is a resonator guitar. Inside is an aluminum cone that vibrates the same way a skin vibreates on a banjo. It was invented just before the 1930s and manufactured by National guitar. Visit Republic guitars to see the various models they offer. Please feel free to write if you have further questions. Enjoy.

  • Thank you for your comment. Enjoy.

  • Great performance (as usual). I like to listen to christian music sometime.

  • Thank you for your comment. I am glad you enjoyed my performance.

  • so good it gives me goose skin

  • Thank you for your comment. Enjoy? lol.

  • I think you've got enough material to get back in the studio again, Keni! I think a title could be

'Mississippi Rambler: From Perdition to Salvation'

Just a thought. Bill and Jackie would be a fixture, but also some of the other female vocals and your producer/percussionist would certainly be good to have back too!

  • Thank you. Great idea for a title. Well, it is not the lack of material, it is a clear shortage of cash and time. Bill is currently in the process of recording a CD. I believe he is planning to utilize Jackie and me in the studio. So, you will be hearing us together again in the near future. Enjoy.

  • nicely done

  • Thank you.

  • One of my fav songs. Good job. Nice sliding and vocals!

  • Thank you. Happy Holidays! Enjoy.

  • Hi Keni,

Thank you for posting your excellent version of Vigilante man, great slide work an very true to Ry's version I saw on th OGWT in the early 70's but sound cool on your resonator.

Are you in D or C tuning it sounds like C when I noodle along to your video?

Please post some more very enjoyable and thanks for inspiring.

    Regards Pip

  • Thank you Pip for the kind words. I'm in Open D. Please remember to look to the right of my videos, and click , more info. I usually have the tuning info available. Enjoy.

  • Hi kenny.. I dont mean to bug you cause I posted on another one of your sites. What kind of strings would you recommend for my Original Hound dog dobro wood body? If anyones interested, I would like to trade it for a tricone.

  • No problem. Feel free to ask questions. I enjoy talking to people who share my interest. I would suggest using ebay to sell your instrument. There you can get a fair market price when selling a used instrument. Please check out republicguitars. Frank's guitar are very good quality and sold at a very reasonable price. Happy Holidays! Enjoy.

  • Nice rhythm. Do you work only with your foot-taping when practicing or use the metronome?

  • Thank you. Mostly with my foot, but I have a small programmable drum machine that I have used in some of my videos like Bukka White's Jitterbig Swing. I prefer a bass drum sound to practice and record against. That click clack of a metronome drives me batty. lol. Happy Holidays! Enjoy. Thanks for your interest.

  • excellent ! .... no need to upgrade the camera ken ... perhaps just a mic with a lead to give you distance from the camera etc ...

  • Thank you. I don't know if this little camera Canon Power Shot SD 300 even takes an external mic. I'll have to look at it. Happy Holidays! Enjoy.

  • another superb rendition

  • Thank you.

  • very nice job,kb.love the black & white & the shadows,nice effect...peace...m_______

  • Thank you. I used Windows movie maker. Enjoy.

  • Very good.

  • Thank you.

  • awesome

  • Thank you.

  • You make that resonator sound so sweet a real treat.

  • Thank you. Playing a good guitar correctly develops a clean strong tone, but here on Youtube, recording equipment is essential. Currently, the camera I use is just a little Canon Power Shot SD 300. It is not bad, but I want to upgrade soon for a better mic.

  • hello KeniLee

    very nice!

    DADF#AD it's my open favori

    thank a lot

  • Thank you. Enjoy.

  • Well Keni, this is , in my ears, one of your most atmospheric tunes. I love Woody Guthrie songs and your version is really great.

    Best wishes from overseas,

    lena

  • Thank you. I really wanted to capture the time. Dust bowl...poverty...Oakies...The Grapes of Wrath...

  • that was one good song!!! great job i enjoyed it 100% !!!

  • Thank you for the kind words.

  • Didn't know Woody Guthrie wrote it I know Ry Cooder did it. Nice video very banjo sound out of the resonator guitar.

  • Thank you. The 14 fret Nationals seem to have this quality. I believe it is due to the reduced bass produced by a shorter guitar body. Ala banjo. You can hear Woody's version online. Google it. Enjoy.

  • Al look out for Woodys version thanks.

  • Fine pickin', singin' and presentation!

  • Thank you.

  • KeniLee,

Man, you're really getting the old time film making down. Better and better all the time. Oh yeah, the playin' aint bad! Nice job.

  • Thank you. I use windows movie maker. I add the old film and grayscale effects. The lighting is a single flood light in a dark room.

  • Very nice -- love that tune -- nice version

  • Thank you.

  • very atmospheric, thanks

  • Thank you.

  • Great stuff, I wanted to learn this since I saw Ry do it on a British TV rerun of the Old Grey Whistle Test (from 1976?). This is so heartfelt and real. I will learn it your way thanks Kenny !

  • Thank you. Enjoy.

  • Your foot is telling at least 40% of the story there. Fantastic feeling.

  • Thank you. I took that from Ry Cooder's studio version on Into the Purple Valley. I got my work boots on, and a hard wood shelf on the carpeted floor.

  • When you tap, is it heel or toe?

  • Toe. I bet the heel would make a better sound, but I think it might be too hard on the old leg. I might run out of steam before I finish the song. lol.

  • Real nice Keni . Black and white sure makes a statement . Nice .

  • Thank you. Adding a matching visual to the audio really makes sense. Windows movie maker is really not that bad to use, and adding effects improves the final production quality.

  • Great video Kenny.

I like your playing and the touch of the effect really adds to the feel.

    thanks for posting

  • Thank you. I really wanted it to look like something out of the movie, The Grapes of Wrath.

  • Tom Joad's on the run for bustin' in some feller's head like an overripe melon.

There's a little Tom Joad in all of us who've seen dark times.

Another cool Ry Cooder recording is

"How Can a Poor Man Stand Such Times as These"

  • Ya, it's a classic movie. I got to rent it and watch it soon.

  • ;) Nice lighting. I am glad to see you are exploring your options :) See you Friday. Keep up the good work Keni.

  • Thank you. I guess it is always all about the light. See ya Friday!

  • Keni:

Great version. Would make a wonderful lesson!!!! (hint, hint)

  • Thank you. Yes, I agree. Currently, I got a few too many irons in the fire, but please stay tuned. Enjoy.

  • Great music :-)

  • Thank you.

  • Outstanding!

  • Great version Keni! Kind of ragtimish. Love it.

  • Thank you.

  • Great stuff Keni. Is that in open D. I note that Kay U Graw has it in open F. Im only asking as i intend to learn it, and Purple Valley has to be one of my most treasured Cd's. Thanks for the excellent rendition. Terry

  • Thank you Terry. Yes, I'm in Open D, and I believe Ry Cooder's version here on Youtube is in Open D. If you have tablature for Open F, all this means is Open D capo 3rd fret or Open E 1st fret. Many times studio recorded versions are done in different keys than during live performances. Remember to match the tuning to your voice. Enjoy. Purple Valley is one of my fravorites too.

  • BRILLIANT Keni !! ... i've got to get there bro' !!

  • Thank you.
