  • i made one before its super yummy! but i bought it with the flour + pressing kit. so now that i have no more flour i will try this recipe :D

  • im so sad D; im sitting here waiting for the dough to rise up, but its already been 30 mins and it still hasnt rised at all ... is it because i used instant yeast??

  • @LiveLaughLovee4Eva Wait longer. I used yeast for bread making which rises faster. Check out your yeast and the amount. And put it warm place. All info and tips are posted on my website. Check out this written recipe on my website please.

  • @Maangchi THANK YOU SO MUCH!! it was successful

it did rise a bit, but not much... still it was delicious!! thank you for sharing your recipe with us :D

I have seen that other people use milk O:

Do they use milk for this or it's a variation in the recipe?

  • Hi Maangchi, I didn't realize making 호떡 from scratch would be this easy and tasty. My kids just loved it. I used sifted whole wheat flour, and my 호떡 turned out just fine. Thanks so much. No more buying hoddeok pre-mix. I'll try more of yr recipes. 감사합니다. 김치랑 식혜도 해보려구요. ㅋㅋㅋ

  • @Maangchi TTTT.TTTT the hoddeoks didnt turn out fluffy or soft . They turned out like pasty and thick and hard... it was such a disappointment! TT.TT next time should i wait longer for the yeast to rise, cause when i checked the dough an hour later, it wasnt very big or fluffy either... BUT the filling was delicious at least!

  • @paristhefarmer I'm sorry to hear that your hoddeok didn't turn out fluffy. As you said, next time wait longer until your dough rises well. Check out the written recipe and tips on my website.

  • @Maangchi HEY!!! i waited longer this time and boy do they taste good~! so thank you again for this recipe!

  • @paristhefarmer great news! Cheers! : )

  • Can you use instant yeast instead of dry yeast??? Like just add the instant yeast later? Yuuumm

  • @ALXVid101

Hey friend, i used instant yeast instead of dry one. the result was good :)

  • Hi Maangchi! I just made this today and the pancake is so delicious! Instead of putting nuts and brown sugar into it, I put my own preference such as peanut butter with strawberries jam into it. So delicious! instead of put more flour onto the palm, i used oil ! is much easy to handle the dough on the oily palm!

Thank you for your great sharing! Please make more desserts as I'm your desserts fan!

  • @babyOfwinter Great tips! I'm not a big fan of dessert, but I will keep your request in mind. Leave your tip for the hoddeok on my website if you want to share with more people. Peanut butter filling sounds good!

  • @Maangchi

Thanks Maangchi, it doesnt have to be particular sweet stuff. I hope to learn more korean snacks just like Hoddeok! As I'm still a fresh beginner learn to bake and cook at the age of 20 :) You're part of my inspiration , so please keep up! I would love to hear your news soon !

  • instead of frying it, can i bake it so i don't use that much oil?

  • YUM YUM

  • Instead of vegetable oil can I use sunflower oil?

  • @slatewarior It sounds great!

  • What a great tutorial! I made Hoddeok tonight. I used toasted hazelnuts in the cinnamon and brown sugar mixture with some nutella for a really sweet way to end the night for my family! So easy, and the dough came out perfect <3 scissor fingers and lots of flour on your hands and surface make it all work out

  • @fluffsnuff wow, your filling sounds really tasty!

  • I made Hoddeok yesterday night :D It didn't raise to well....but It turned out very well ^3^

  • @TouchMySitar1 Let the dough rise more by letting it sit longer in your next batch of hoddeok. Congratulations!

  • michelle88pooh hi I'm not mangchi but I think I can answer to you

you can keep the rest of dough in refrigerator but dough will keep rising and some point taste will be bad

so you can keep 1-2days or little bit longer in refrigerator but not too long

I was just suprised when I tasted them the first time, I made them with the sugar-cinemon-walnut mix. If you wouldn´t have done such ja great and easy "tutorial", I would have never discovered my new favorite meal! Thank you very much and keep on going :) You are very great!!!!

Lots of love, Lydia from Germany

  • @Lydi2109 great news! I'm very happy to hear that!

  • @HipHopPinoy strawberry jam sounds great to me!

  • i made these tonight and i told myself I'd do it for fun and take only a little bite. They were so good I ended up eating three XD Thank you! I like them better than waffles now and I used to be in love with waffles!

  • I should try cheese next time lol

  • @iluvkangin I'm doing fine! : )

  • When I did the recipe, the dough was very thick, a lot less smooth as yours. & it took a lot more than 1 hour to make it rise enough. Is this because I put too much flour in it?

  • @sauffy09 Please check the recipe on my website. I posted some tips and the photos, too.

  • hey maangchi! i've been making your hoddeok recipe for countless of times and it's one of my all-time favorite korean snacks. i have a question, i've been to insadong and many stalls sell this hoddeok but it's very different, they fry hoddeoks in lots of oil and yours is pan fried.. can i use your recipe and try the insadong's way of frying?

  • @mochidaifukutan yes, you can. I prefer my version though because it's not greasy.

  • Long live the dutch that like korean food!!!!!

I'm not dutch, but I live in the Netherlands XD

  • @MoonAngelicChild Yeah! Unfortunately it's still hard to find....

  • My family LOVES. When I make hoddeok, and each time I make the dough I double the recipe so I can freeze some for later :) My little sister is 5, and she helps me make the filling and put it in the hoddeok. Today I came over and I saw her watching this YouTube video, and she said "I'm learning how to make hoddeok!" I was so amazed! She also said you were very pretty and she thanked you for posting this recipe for us to enjoy! ^^

  • the cheese 1 seems kinda gross because wat i like about hoddeok is the sweet center

  • pllssss can you tell me if i can use rice flour instead??

  • why is there no korean restaurant serve this for dessert???

  • @houchi69

This is more of a street food. ^^

  • can you do half traditional and half cheese?

  • Omgah..I LOVE this recipe. Made it a few times and everyone loves it, Maangchi is right..you MUST eat this hot guys!! It's sooo yummy and warming.

  • This woman seriously deserves to have her own show.

  • can i use rice flour instead of all purpose please?? thanks and keep it up!! =D

  • do you know how to make Korean style hotdog? (if u don't know this u can search in google, the big sausage in a stick) and fish red bean cake. thanks u :)

  • Dear Maangchi, please avoid using the gas range you use in the video. A friend of mine was using it when the gas canister exploded unexpectedly. Luckily no serious injury but it was a great scare. FIre fighters that came to their house warned not to use it as the gas canister is not very safe. Doesn't matter what brand.

Take care and hoddeok is a great snack! Thank you!

  • for the cheese,

what other kind of cheese can we use

because i dont know if our grocery stores have those cheese!!

  • GONNA TRY MAKING SOME TMR!! :D

  • i thought people usually used glutinous rice flour?

  • that looks so much better than the premade-batter that i got at the market. i gotta try!

  • How do you reheat the hoddeok

  • why uh oh? :]?

  • my dough took a really long time to rise but worth it

  • @irock1566 umm, it sounds like you made delicious hoddeok! good news!

  • I'm sooo gonna try this. :D

  • When i make the dough, it is very sticky. It is much more sticky then yours. Why is that so?

  • @sgjoki yeah, it's very sticky. Put some vegetable oil on your palms before making shape. Sticky dough makes hoddeok really soft and fluffy (more delicious), but if you want, add a little more flour to the dough and knead it before making shape. Good luck with making delicious uh oh hoddeok! : )

  • Thanks Maangchi , this is my first time making korean food , and i made this for my family ,they all love it ! im only 14 <3 thanks Maangchi unnie ! :D

  • @TheNajihah96 great news! I feel like making hoddeok now. : )

  • or can i skip for vegetable oil ?

  • Hiya Maangchi :D

I made these for my food technology coursework and my teacher gave me a really good mark,

    thank you soo much :D

    Love Jack <3 <3 <3

  • Can I use cooking oil instead of vegetable oil ?

  • I made these and they were delicious, you just have to eat it fresh cos it gets chewy later

  • That is so cool :D

  • made this today. it's working and my family like it! hehe thanks for the recipe. i'm gonna try your other recipes. thank you again. :)

  • @oqs15 awesome!

  • @Maangchi you're more awesome! :)

  • I've never seen pancakes made like that. This is really awesome, I'm going to have to make them and play around with them.

Thank you for uploading these videos to youtube :>

  • does it taste good without any nuts?

  • @DianasaurausRex

yeah... i added normal strawberry jam and it was wonderful too.

  • Thank you for the wonderful recipe! I made these for my friends for our after Thanksgiving Fredogiving :D They were devoured! It went well with the tamales theme because they reminded my Mexican friends of churros :-) Also, I'm having a hard time finding an egg bread recipe, could you possibly do a tutorial on those? They look delicious! <3

  • @MGTOB86 yay! great news! churros and tamales are so delicious! Actually I'm traveling in Honduras now! Check my blog on my website.

  • Maangchi, I hope you had a good thanksgiving and I made this for thanksgiving and it was a big hit. Although I used Brie and Walnuts :)

  • @regyme Brie and walnuts sounds fantastic! : )

  • Just made the mozzarella one and everyone in my family loved it :) even my mom who hates cheese ;o

  • @BellaAliceConvalen01 awesome!

  • @Maangchi I hope i can make more of your recipes ^-^ I love cooking them<3 thank you Maangchi you are the best :D

  • i made this a few times with mozzarella. reminds me of chinese green onion pancakes.

  • These pancakes are so delicious :D

I made them for some friends and they loved them *g*

Thank you for the great recipe!

  • Cool! I'm Dutch to. :D

You have to ask Reinier to make Dutch pancakes and 'Oliebollen' for you. :p

They are delicious and authentic Dutch.

  • @peppermint1358 Thank you! Contact Reinier if you are interested in Korean cooking.

  • I think I used too much yeast when I tried to make my hoddeok... I wonder what will happen.

  • @teknotoast hope it turned out good!

  • @Maangchi they turned out pretty good, but I've never tried authentic, korean-made hoddeok, so I'm not sure how they compare. When I took the dough out of the bowl after the 2nd rising, it was a lot more runny than the dough you had, so added a lot more, and kneaded the dough a little bit to get it a bit more firm.

Can you store the dough for any period of time or is it best to make all the hoddeok at once?

  • @teknotoast You can keep the dough in the fridge for a couple of days.

  • where did you buy your measuring spoons?? square shape :) gives accurate measurement !

  • @needle27 I got them at Willimas-Sonoma.

  • I love the song in the beginning ;P hahah

  • What is the filling ??
