  • NRM is obviously itching for war.. after spending countless months trying to track down kony among other military failures in eastern DRC, southern sudan its looking for excuses to wage war.

remember this is not the first time uganda has agitates kenya, museveni once laid claim on busia district till moi sealed off the border showed off its military might and museveni backed off...and we all remeber in '76 when amin laid claim on the entire western region. i am not surpised by all this

  • Who does not know, that Migingo is a plan between Museveni and Kibaki to frsutrate ODM Nyanza supporters, talking in Zambia to contînue the frustration, and come out to say a diffrent thing. That is Kibaki for you, he read a statement about events at Kianguli contrary to the actual happenings. Listen to how the Ugandan is talking, 'yunfortunately ou elected a government in Kenya...', which government, the Coalition Government? This was not elected!! It is a Museveni and Kibaki deal.

  • Mingigo has eistedfo moretha tenousan years and sine bo kenya and uganda got indipendenceit has been kenyan nd. How hen can the Ugndan gov' say it is their? Even te curency used in mgingo is Ksh. Let both gvnmt live this the peopl of migingo alone to coexist the waythey did befoe polticans come in.....peace to Migingo Island!

  • People, how can you jump so quickly to condemn fellow Africans? Those borders were not put there by us, they were put by racist white colonisers. Do you know these borders cut through homogenous communities?

Please, we have to start thinking like Africans otherwise the racist white colonialists continue to win!

  • In addition, have the people who are chest-thumping actually seen pictures of Migingo? It's about an acre of land with mabati structures (no offense intended). Is that enough to go up in arms for?

Especially when we know that the real enemy is a sociopolitical system that is not only failing but is also plundering our nation (and the same is happening in most if not all African nations).

Choose your battles wisely and avoid idle talk.

  • how can you share an island with a war criminal like museveni its got nothing to do with colonial boundaries, its about greedy corrupt leaders who want to loot and plunder resources. we dont want to be part of the east african community

  • "a war criminal like...."

    - I suppose our politicians are the pinnacle of virtue. (Are there any African leaders who are?)

"nothing to do with colonial boundaries"

    - trans-border communities have known each other for longer than the artificial borders have been in place. They lived together long before tankers and warships came knocking.

And if they did have to fight, the losers would be able to relocate and resettle without having to worry about moving restrictions imposed by borders.

  • "its got nothing to do with colonial boundaries"

    - Issues surrounding how we ourselves can live and prosper in our own nation, which should have been addressed at independence, are still unresolved.

-Same problem across most of Africa.

"its about greedy corrupt leaders who want to loot and plunder resources"

    - Is this problem unique to Uganda or can the same be said for Kenya along with with a whole host of other African nations?

  • The west of Kenya is quite marginalised and there is a lot of poverty. Luckily it has a lot of green land so they are able to grow food and of course there is Lake Victoria.

But there is a population explosion (like everywhere else in Kenya) so life is challenging. Even when people are barely carving out an existence, the ever present govt. and law enforcement officials are there to demand a piece of the cake (bribes).

  • Those officials are the ones who are going to cause an escalation.

The real sad thing is that the locals are overfishing so soon all that will be left is all the tension and none of the resource.

  • Send Museveni back to the bush, he has gotten too fat and foolish being president too long...!!

  • dude if u point out this land on migingo...its in Ugandas' territory....jut a few miles from kenya....and it is like an acre...u cant even see it...its so tiny...go to google maps and type in migingo island and get ya suprise.......thats why kenyas government cannot send the police or armed forces over there....

  • This sounds a little bit like Amin's annexation of part of Tanzania in the seventies. That basically led to him being kicked-out by the Tanzanians. Museveni better watch his step - lightening is known to strike twice.

It would be very ridiculous if this ended up in confrontation. It would just be poor Ugandans and Kenyans losing their lives because of the foolishness of our leaders.

  • And the famous sying goes,"Migingo is Marwa, by Thwon, by Force, and Nobody can bwogo us". Long live MIGINGO. an PEACE be with the Migingo residents.

  • i trust that our kenyan parliamentarians shall discuss and pass a firm resolution on migigo island. the land crealy belongs to kenya. kibaki and odinga should be firm on their claim for the island. our navy ships should be sorrounding the island by now t exert the kind of pressure museveni understands. we should not cow away from an inch of the kenyan soil. so kibaki and raila, we are waiting for your action.

  • WTF why cant these be solved once and for all, the main issue are the fishin grounds not the island maybe as stopover declare it a nomans land or whatever.

  • let us face it. museveni thinks that he owns kenya!

  • I am now not sure that Miging'o was not sold in exchange for the help of Museveni's soldiers during the post election crisis. After all, we in Kenya have all just come to discover that Laico Regency, Tana Delta and JKIA were quietly sold away to Libya and Quatar! It is a shame our soldiers were used against their own fellow citizens in Mt.Elgon, yet remain holed up in the barracks when our sovereignty has been violated by hosisting of a foreign flag on Kenyan ground.

  • There is no democracy in Uganda, its time for museveni to quit power and the International Criminal Court should arrest him for crimes he has committed against his own people.

  • This is a very good moment to test our navy fleet and army artillery! We can even use this dispute as an excuse to topple Museveni, he has been ruling for too long! Am I the only one seeing Museveni repeat the same fatal errors as Amin?

  • Museveni thinks he is unbwogeable. We shall deal with him! Migingo belongs to Kenya. All the land, cattle etc they have been taking from Kenya must stop.

  • Kenyan Prime Minister - Raila Odinga we want to see your action here, you almost (involved) in 1992 coup, why can't you show Museveni who you are made of do some practice and send those guys from the baracks as you team sent GSU to Mt. Elgon to put camp in Migingo. Raila Do something .. show Kenyans that come 2012 you can defend Kenya. small test is MIGINGO occupation by Ugandans. deal with them.

  • I can't imagine Uganda can fight Kenya for just an acre of an island, after his defeat in Somalia now Museveni thinks he can bully Kenyans!! sorry Ugandans, we can give u more land than the island...

  • My fellow Kenyans, while we have every reason feel aggrieved, lets not lose sight of the big picture. Obviously Uganda is acting irresponsibly, but we have to react firmly but responsibly in resolving this dispute. Uganda is Kenya's leading Export partner, they purchase 16.9% of our total exports, which translates to 31% of their total imports. Kibaki is being prudent, and with sustained diplomacy we will win back Migingo without compromising Kenya's strategic economic interests.

  • Well said. Even though it's important to look at the areas you mention, it is also important to have it in mind that, once people are given an inch, they come back for a mile. It's all good to quote the figures in terms of financial interests, but this island sustains the lives of so many who live around it-and more so, kisumu people. It is therefore unhelpful to look at it your way since after all, the proceeds from trade are hardly felt compared to the subsistence use of fish.

  • Eighty percent of residents in Migingo are Kenyans. While Uganda's flag flies it's Kenya's currency that is used on the island, even cell phones there use kenyan towers for service. The Island is 15km from kenyan shores, while it's 150 km from Ugandan shores. Migingo has three islands, the one in dispute is the smallest but the only one that is habitable. Uganda thinks it deserves this island because the biggest is in Tanzania, and the medium one is in Kenya.

  • Mseveni is really annoying , who does he think he is??A rebel leader who came to power through a coup and has since rigged elections to maintain power. Has he not got enough problems of his own to deal with, like the rebels in Northern Uganda??? If he can't defeat Joseph Kony what makes him think he can defeat a GREAT nation like Kenya ?

  • This takataka known as Museveni doesn't know that he is bound for The Hague for his security forces were mentioned in the Waki Report for helping Kibaki slaughter people in western Kenya. He is also responsible tor the death of millions in the Democratice Republic of Congo, Northern Uganda, and the staged accident and death of Dr. John Garang'. Mwizi huyo siku zake zimefika!

  • I cannot believe the nerve ya hii ugandans from any perspective, ila kujua walisaidia kibaki kuiba kura, na wanajua ni mgonjwa ndio maana wana confidence aina hii that yeye na yule puppet pm raila watakuwa reluctant kuleta response as kenyans suffer! Imebaki kuwa kweli tuna rais asiye na meno na gava iliyo non-existent, for this to happen, na ni too sad.

  • omg i can see kibaki is scared of museveni fck its shameful a ugandan flag to fly in kenyan territories

  • kibaki and raila have both failed kenya! where are they right now what have they said right now and how can they watch as kenyans get manhandled by a foreign nation! this nonesense called kenyan dimplomacy not only puts the kenyans in a vulnerable situation but is a shame and sham that the government needs to act! bogus ugandan ministers bafoons talking down Kenyans in Kenya! Kibaki and Raila have failed! defend the nation!

  • It is time to respond with the same might. Ati "consult" when that has been going on of the last two months and there is even a written agreement. It goes to show that some people do not understand the meaning of dialogue. Imperialist museveni is one of them, and since he came in via coup, he is one that only understands force. Do not waste your words while our army stands idle.

  • Why did Kenyan army purchase all those tanks, why allow Uganda to undermine our territorial integrity. Away with diplomacy

  • wtf? yaani we spend all that money on defense budget for what? where is our commander in chief? this is a bad precedent.....

  • Museveni is worse than Mugabe and Bashir.

  • These Ugandans are taking us for a ride now! We spend billions on idle army in the barracks where are they now at this hour of need? Kibaki you are the commander-in-chief give orders!

  • the kenyan army should respond the way they responded to mt Elgon crisis, fuckin ugandans, their ass should be kicked

  • Kenya Army can destroy the whole of Eastern Africa. Why are these Ugandans testing us? Don't they know we even have a U.S president?

  • very tru..kenyan army can destroy them big time..thts y they r jus chillin..waiting to be provoked

  • I think Uganda is treading on dangerous ground. Museveni is somewhat drunk with power assuming Kenya's peaceful posture is a state of cowardice. As P. W. Botha "Die Groot Krokodil (Afrikaans for "The Big Crocodile") warned the ANC, "Don't push as too far", Uganda might take heed and be ware of the wrath of a patient Nation.

  • sabotage all the goods going to Uganda from Mombasa...cut oil, food and commodities going through Kenya.Museveni is a bastard

  • tutang'oa railway line

  • what does Uganda stand to benefit by escalating this crisis.

  • i second that razr3g

  • The reporter mention that more Uganda soldiers aarive as soon as ministers left. where is the kenya army, general kianga and kifucky, these people are bound by the law to protect its teritory and its citizens. Hey wake up jameni

  • fuck Uganda, Kibaki needs to send those tanks that came from Ukraine over there, Ugandans are greedy bastards
