I do agree. Almost everyone on the internet eventually gets hate/insulting emails and messages. So there was probably a problem of extreme insecurity issues that the parents did not seek to support. No offense, I have depression. Depression itself can threaten your life and you need those pills. I am trying exercise, proper diet, herbal tinctures etc. But if that does not work, I WILL go to the pills. Sometimes they are required.

And secondly; A lot of these same people don't believe there are chemical imbalances in the brain or that there are medications that correct that imbalance.

I have battled cyclothamic depression and cyclical suicidal ideation since I was 9.. so I think I have an inkling of what it was like to be in Megan's shoes and have the need for treatment at a young age. I think it's tragic that Megan didn't live through this ordeal long enough to recover and experience hope for her own future. Megan deserves compassion for what she went through and so does her family, now.

The psychiatry & psychology fields are areas which I've always held great skepticism, but I would rather a psychiatrist deal with these medications than our family doctors.

I do agree. Almost everyone on the internet eventually gets hate/insulting emails and messages. So there was probably a problem of extreme insecurity issues that the parents did not seek to support. The driving point was probably when she knew her parents wern't supporting her and on her side. Yeah, marriage is a joke on many levels. As for the suicidal teen group, I believe a large part of that is basically due to a more pitiful and spoilled generation. Sounds harsh but, when I grew up we all were ridiculed and outcast at some point and we didnt kill ourselves. We didnt obssess over being accepted and/or "popular" either. If someone kills themselves over a total stranger, who they never met face to face and only chatted with them for 4 weeks, is obviously mentally disturbed. I have full empathy for Megan and her family! My heart goes out to them. But the bottom line is this poor girl was suffering from severe mental problems that should have been dealt with long before this MYSPACE saga. Anything which designed to effect the mind or your mood is a psychotropic.
Prozac is a Selective Seratonin Re-Up-Take Inhibitor (SSRI), used to balance seratonin levels in the brain and fight depression. Prozac is not used as often as it was back in the 1990's because there are better anti-depressants.
Lithium is actually a very weak psychotropic in comparison, as it's a salt. It's used in treating symptoms of Bipolar Disorder, but it isn't a good anti-depressant.

I was point on anitdepressants when i was 7 i was also on ritlan (Sp?) well needless to say its not only failed to help me it made my probless worse i lost weight and hair because i coulnt eat , Im not saying medication is wrong i totally support it i am on the proper one now and they help. But I do believe that ppl rush into the meds and meds are perscribed for some very silly reasons lately. No wonder the mental health system is so over berdoned too many ppl look for the easy way out.

I have battled cyclothamic depression and cyclical suicidal ideation since I was 9.. so I think I have an inkling of what it was like to be in Megan's shoes and have the need for treatment at a young age. I think it's tragic that Megan didn't live through this ordeal long enough to recover and experience hope for her own future. Megan deserves compassion for what she went through and so does her family, now.

The psychiatry & psychology fields are areas which I've always held great skepticism, but I would rather a psychiatrist deal with these medications than our family doctors.
I say that because, 9 out of 10 times, it is the fault of pediatricians that kids are being "falsely diagnosed" & given drugs that screw them up.

You will find a lot of bad psychiatrists that prescribe with a "New Drug Of The Week" decision ...
Pharmaceutical suppliers reward doctors for distributing their drugs and some doctors gladly accept pay-offs.
BUT the majority of these psychiatrists will not put young people on certain medications simply because a child's brain has not fully developed.
Common sense and ethics make all the difference between being a drug-pusher and a healer.
