  • I very much dislike the fact that destroying blockers before combat damage prevents the attackers from attacking the player. It makes no sense to me.

I try visualizing everything when I play the game, as if it were real.Like how drawing a card is actually you remembering something, or a creature actually doing damage with an ability, and if it makes sense..I see this as being a creature going to attack a planeswalker, being blocked by a random creature, seeing it disappear and then sitting down.

  • Players do not attack creatures, they attack other players or planeswalkers, if you interrupt the attack to sacrifice a defending creature and there is nothing left to block the attack, damage is dealt to defending player. I just checked the official site and can find nothing to indicate otherwise.

    Am I missing something WOTC?

  • @niterunnerr unless the creature has trample, they won't deal damage to the player or planeswalker. they just changes the way the stack worked. Before, you would have to sac your creatures in response to the damage that would be dealt to them, but now that combat damage doesn't go onto the stack, you sac your creatures after declaring blockers and before damage is dealt.

  • thanks couldn't figure that one out

  • Oh, they don't attack if you sacrifise a creature assigned to block? That's a neat trick! I guess that doesn't work on creatures with trample, does it?

  • no, this does actually make perfect sense.. in the rules that is. the way it is dealt with in the computer game version makes it seem stupid, but from when i used to play magic in junior high you could always sacrifice creatures as they were going to the graveyard!

  • @battlefever91 Sure, on their way to the graveyard. However, they wouldn't be on their way to the graveyard until ALL combat damage (since all combat damage is done at the same time per magic rules). If you're able to sac them after they die but before the tramplers damage then not all combat damage is really dealt at the same time. Either this is a bug or Magic rules changed at some point and the creatures attack one after the other, but I highly doubt that is the case.

  • Can someone please explain to me how this is possible if his creatures have blocked..cause if they block should they take damage and die and if he sacrifices b4 the attack should his life lpoints be wide open for an attack

  • this does not make sense, why wont they attack after their blockers are out of the way ...

  • see the way i was taught magic was the attacker wasnt aiming at your blockers at all they are aiming at your life pts. you stick blockers in there way to take the dmg. i.e. if someone throws a rock at your head and you put a bear or what ever in front of you in the path of said rock to take the blow BUT then sacrifice said bear the rock just doesnt drop out of the fucking sky lol i spent about 2 hours on this shit lol meh thanks for the vid man i would have NEVER thought of that =)

  • Is this challenge possible in "real" MTG? As far as i know if creature blocks and dies you can't/shouldn't be able to sacrifice it in the middle... Either it blocks or you sacrifice it... IMHO.

  • gay

  • @thekooka Man its in the rules of Magic: The Gathering. "You can answer a/or the blocking or attacking creatures by doing an ability".

  • Hello, nice video just need one answer from you...

I bought complete bundle decks+ foils and else and i dont know how to activate foils bundles,do you know???

  • what pissed me off is I didn't know they wouldn't deal damage; the game still showed them attacking ME.

  • This challenge could make sense by this interpretation:

    - You declare the blockers.

    - The attackers AIM the blockers.

    - Blocker dies.

    - Attacker hits nothing.

Even so the animation explains nothing, and this challenge mess up the original rules.

  • @txaitxai Now make sense, tanks

  • For PC users you need to actually zoom in on the cards to activate the ability not just right click it like you can any other time....

  • For PC users you need to actually zoom in on the cards to activate the ability not just right click it like you can any other time....

  • are you allowed to do that in real life

  • @thekooka You have to remember the forward motion rule.. After he declared the attack, you declared the blockers.. Anything after that eg. The sacrafice happened after the forward motion of attack and block.

  • "blocked" is "blocked", whether the creatures fight or not. Hard rule to come to terms with, but think of it like this: They attack with Grizzly Bears, and you block with a 1/1. Before damage, you Into The Roil your 1/1 back to your hand, taking no damage (because the bear was physically "blocked"), and saving your 1/1.

  • @LedurtsPlasmaKillCuh

That doesn't make any sense though! If you pulled it out before the bear could block, then you should take the hit. If you pull it after it blocked, and the bear had been physically "blocked," then it should have died because it got hit by the bear!

  • i followed this vid to the letter and i succeeded, but i still dont get it!!!

  • this stupid challenge...i had to come see this to solve it...how is this even a proper challenge...wtf

  • I hate whoever made this challenge. Seriously? You have to exploit a game bug to win? How the hell is that strategy?

  • I figured out another way to beat it but the game just gave me the middle finger when I did it. I left the goblin unblocked while double blocked the 9/9 guy with my 7/7 and 3/3 (I sacrificed the 15/15 to make my vamp 3/3) and blocked the 6/4s with 1/1 1/1 but did the special on the guy that gave you one life and took one life from the enemy so after the battle phase was over I still had my 7/7 with 1 health and he had 9 but I would have just summoned back the 15/15 guy and attacked

  • @Melf102 thats because the 7/7 deals 7 damage to you at the beginning of your upkeep if you don't sac a monster

  • Comment removed

  • this would of been a lot easier if they would have let me see that enchantment before i looked up this >.>

  • although you learn a valuable lesson from this challenge, the solution is not clear at all. given the way combat plays out, blocking with a card in the graveyard is counter intuitive.

outside of mtg, it makes sense - blocking an attack with a unit which will die is a sacrifice - but when you separate the conflict into separate stages (i.e. combat phases), the logic is lost.

a blocksac should be played out so that the sacrificed card stays on the battlefield until the end of the combat phase.

  • Okay someone explain why my strat doesn't win but this does?

i block the giant with pit lord and a vamp creature, i bock a wurm with the goul, and block the other wurm with a vamp. when i get a chance i then sac the ghoul for 1 life(what it's blocking gets through), buff the vamp blocking giant to 3, and if it wasn't for the wurm getting through the goblin would of only knocked me back down to 1 life :)

  • Yay, teaching all the new players how to blocksac. This game is pretty good about applying several different win conditions to the challenges. There needs to be more of them though. :(

  • @parcuni exept its impossible to apply in the pc client for unknown reasons, i first tried dbl blocking colosus and then saccing little guy to heal for the goblin, then i tried as per this vid. but for reasons unknown my blocks dont stick...... really the way the stack is handled is terrible, i feel like whenever i play this game i wanna do things, that i can do in magic, but the client doesn't let me

  • Ehh, my computer is slow. I've no time to push the "stop timer" button. Pushing the "block button means that I lost the game. I don't understand why this game uses that much resources. It's just a simple card game...

  • wow the enchantment card says at the begging of your upkeep..

  • i was going to watch this video to try and figure out how 2 do it, but i wasnt too keen on that bc i value my intelligence and wanted 2 figure it out on my own. i figured out the blocking+sacrificing part right away, its a very old trick, but my strategy was to sack the priest thing 2 gain 1 life, leaving the goblin open, and sacrifice the one vampire 2 buff the other, blocking the trampler with the remaining vampire and the lord of the pit. but the right answer came to me b4 i watched this vid.

  • @lXBlackWolfXl It's very important that you announce your success in figuring out the solution before you watch this video. Otherwise somebody could think that you were a bit slow in the head. It is a logical puzzle so anyone should be able to solve it. Good job.

  • i thought they had changed that on magic, stacking can get very confusing

  • I totally didn't see that enchantment sitting over there. That was the key for me. Thanks.

  • I had problems with this simply because of the weird way the game displays everything. The deal with sacrificing blockers is that initially they do block and they do take the damage, but while they are x/-x, they don't go to the graveyard until combat ends. That means that before combat ends you can still sacrifice them. At least, that's how it was explained to me.

  • ty

  • Thanks for the video it was very helpful.

  • @thekooka I agree completely! It defies all logic! And we are supposed to figure this out for ourselves? Its a wonder anyone figured it out at all in my opinion.

  • ooo so that's how yo do it. I figuered out that you could block and sacrifice, but I still couldn't manage to do it, what I was doing was blocking his 9/9 with my 7/7 and one of the vampires, and blocking the two 6/4s with the other 1/1. So I sacrificed the 1/1, gained 1 life, sacrificed one vampire and made the other one 3/3. At the end, I was left with the 7/7 and the other tapped card, but I had only 19 cards in the cemetery then and I had to discard the tapped card to negate the 7/7's effect

  • @aspirino67 and you think okay I can actually still win this. Playing Zombify on Grave Titan to get 3 more creatures on the battlefield. Then the opponent takes his turn and blasts you for 5 with Spire Barrage.

  • Dear sheepsmuggler, maker of this video,

I think I played you in a 2v2 online match.

    You won.

    Twice.

    :(

  • @radsmile I luld

  • I did this exact strategy, my screen looked exactly the same, but the damage just happens anyway

  • I ALMOST figured this out on my own... i dont get why you cant sac a creature AFTER it has taken damage... won't a 1-0 survive until the end of turn?

  • This would make more sense if there weren't any visual indicators that the enemy creatures would, in fact, attack you after you've activated the ability of that other card.

  • @KUR1SU No kidding, as an avid paper Magic player I knew exactly how to solve this puzzle, except I kept second guessing how I could tell the client what I wanted thanks to those idiotic arrows pointing creatures at me that were obviously already blocked. Frustrating.

  • well that was fucking stupid. i did it another way, have 21 cards in my graveyard in the beginning of my upkeep and yet the challenge was not complete. fucking nonsense.

  • The way I make sense of this is, the opponent goes to attack and my blockers prepare to take damage. Then as the attacker is going to attack but before he makes contact I sacrifice my blocker and they swing at nothing.

  • The vampire cards are so confusing. This is just effing weird. Thanks for the walkthrough though.

  • its just annoying how the game still shows things.. it make much more sense in the real game

  • Thank you so much!

  • Godbless you and have a happy holiday.

  • This rule doesn't make any fecking sense!

  • I guess this has something to do with that golden rule of it contradicts the rules it wins. He already blocked with his creatures so those monsters are blocked whether or not he sacrificing them after or not. Otherwise this is bullshit and makes no fucking sense lol. Oh and I'm guessing even though the arrows go back to pointing at the your Planeswalker they don't do any damage because of what i said above.

  • WTF THIS IS COMPLETE BS

  • @chaosquall1 lol

  • Awesome! Thanks! It's not hard to see what you do, just pause the video if there is something you don't see

  • its really hard to see in this vid what you actually did, managed to work it out from the comments though

  • i knew thats how i have to beat it....it confused me when it said they were still attacking me

  • no prob

  • I knew it needed to be done like that, but I couldn't figure out exactly how. Thanks.

  • thanks =D

  • They don't attack cause they have been blocked already after a block you can sacrifice and still block and to activate the ability press X

  • @AmTheBroseph01 im new at this how is that possible?! explain it to me yes this noob that only started today to play lol

  • @sphiedd the artifact/enchantment over to the right says win the game if you have 20 or more creatures in your graveyard so when all your creatures die you win. Magic loophole lol

  • @AmTheBroseph01 Okay, first how should I know or imagine that the first card that would be selected to attack me was the Colossus of Sardia? In this challenge we had to block Colossus of Sardia, and use the hability of the vampire, and sacrifice all others creatures so that he becomes a 9/9 and as the last card to make the 20 counter would be him becouse he would die blocking Colossus of Sardia

But this only works if Colossus of Sardia atacks first (in this case it is), but i would never imagin

  • how do you activate the bloodthrone vampire ability when your in blocking phase? and even if you block his 9/9, why doesnt the rest attack?

  • @an1malfarm The 9/9 has trample so anything you dont block goes through. However by sacrificing 4 vampires his bloodthrone vampire ability gives him a 9/9 on the dot. When he dies and your upkeep starts the artifact allows you to win the game because you have over 20 creatures in the grave yard and only needed 20 to win.

  • @an1malfarm That is the point. Once you set them to block and you press triangle or Y on xbox to continue, and then press square or X to stop the game again, you can do whatever you want with them and they will still block. IMHO this should not be allowed and should be fixed.

  • @daftpunk9050 Thanks
