Sounds great Billy. When I listen to the Scotty Moore recording I hear an alternating bass line, low E and an octave higher which I guess he played with a thumbpick. Are you able to do that with the flatpick, or do you just play four to the bar on the low E string? Sounds good whatever.
@johnnykaka66 Yes..!! I'm in a band called the "Inside Drivers". We play a lot of older country, rockabilly and rock & roll. Most of our music is original and have a CD coming out later this year. You can see some live videos of the band on my channel. You can search our website online as well..!! -Billy
@300guitars WOW CHUCK BERRY !!!!! HOT DAMN! I want to get out to St. Louis and catch him sometime. But more importantly, I'm a Jersey Boy myself, looks like you guys'll be playing here... I'll have to get out and see you. You're super talented and great fun to listen to!
@johnnykaka66 Thanks very much..!! What exit in NJ are you? If you are a guitar player I have a guitar and amp repair shop in Long Branch. Let me know if you every need anything. The band will be playing out again real soon..!! -Billy
@300guitars rt 80 - exit 35...North Jersey. I'm a very amateur electric Bass player...that's all I can handle right now. Just starting to pick up some rockabilly riffs on the guitar, but I can't play worth a damn. That doesn't stop me from trying though!
@Azrael888 Thanks for the kind words..!! No, I did not take lessons with Danny. I tried to arrange some and at the time he was charging $75/hour. Wish I could have worked that out...!!! -Billy
The pickups in that particular guitar are Jason Lollar low wind Imperials. I really like them and they work perfectly in that guitar for rockabilly as well as blues and jazz. Thanks for the comment!!!
Take your first finger and barre the A, D & G strings at the 11th fret. Take your third finger and barre the B & E strings at the 12th fret. Shazam.....rockabilly ending. If you are in another key use your thumb to fret the low E string as the root of the chord. Have fun!!!!!
That last chord is an E 6/9 chord. It has a beautiful ethereal sound when played at the end of a progression and allowed to ring like that. Pretty common in a lot of rockabilly songs and a great way to end. Billy is a good player and seems like a nice guy. Hope this helps...
That's my early 1980's Greco ES-175 copy. I put Jason Lollar low wind Imperial humbuckers and RS pots in it. And the Bigsby is an original 1950's unit I was saving for the right geetar. I played it through my 1966 Fender Vibro Champ all stock with my Eh Memory Man for the slapback dely. Have fun!!
There is an out of print Danny Gatton instructional video on youtube where he shows you how to do some of the travis picking and the mystery train lick. It's called Licks and Tricks.
I think you will be ok with your guitar choice. Use the guitar with emphasized treble. This may help to increase clarity and twang. If you are not very happy then maybe a pickup change will help. TV Jones makes humbucker sized Filter'tron pickups that will get you that rockbilly twang. Let me know how it works out.
billy, i love yr playing and the rockabilly sound you get, great!!ive just ordered a les paul copy/chery on ebay as my 1st venture into electrics. seein u with the archtop makes me think ive bought the wrong guit. can u get rockabilly tones out of a solid like les paul????

So good man. Usually when someone plays Sun stuff they usually lack the genuine 'feel' for it. Once again, so bloody good. Keep them coming.
