I assume you refer to WW2. The USA entrered the war only because of the Japanese threat. USA wasn't the only ally (it was a WORLD war) and the Free French helped a lot too. I know of the heroic efforts of the resistance during the war and those men and women are one of the reasons that France is a free country. Like all comedy it says something designed to get a laugh (or at least a chuckle) and that some people will be offended. I hope you were not one of them.

Very real I think. (The France who retreat and the USA who continue to fight despite the wight flag)
We (french) are not so war-like since quite a time now.
However, even if our politics are cowards, average french is very stubborn so prepare for resistance again.
