  • Gaurds? (At the end)

  • God Bless the men and women of the US Coast Guard. They are some of the most professional and bravest people you'd ever want to meet. They go where others dare not go.

  • It's not even funny how people underestimate coast guard.

  • As a former destroyer sailor and having crossed the Atlantic in a 50 foot J-boat I have the utmost respect for U.S. Coast Guard seamanship (the very best) and uncanny ability to find a boater in distress. For example 3 AM and 26 miles 270 degrees from Rosarito (where you'd least expect it) within minutes of a spinnaker problem -- they appear. WOW! And they are incredibly able. Utmost respect to these fearless sailors.

  • The Coast Guard often doesn't get the recognition it deserves.

However, many would have to admit that they were glad that the Coast Guard was there when they need to be rescued at sea!

And of all of the military anthems, I like the Coast Guard's the best.

  • USCGC Sorrell, WLB 296, Cordova, Alaska (73-75)

Nantucket Lightship, WLV 612, Boston, Mass (75-77)

  • In Memorial for Robert M Millette

Division 6, 1st District, Northern of the USCG Auxiliary.

My dear friend passed 3 November 2011and though I could not attend his service as I live on the west coast and he on the east, this is part of the personal service for him.

So much to be said, so little space.

I will say this He was a proud member of the Auxiliary Color Guard and bore the ensigns with dignity, humbleness, and great respect.

    Fare thee well fellow Guardian

    Semper Paratus

  • @chasbrey Wow, thank you for serving.

  • I don't know why but Semper Paratus is my favorite of the military anthems. And I was never in the military nor have I ever had a relative that served in the Coast Guard. I did have a close friend in the Coast Guard, though.

  • It really sucks that people think the Coast Guard isn't a military branch. They go to boot camp, they learn the Chain of Command, rank structure, how to wield a rifle, close drill, physical fitness, and discipline. I've watched the Coast Guard at boot camp. Simply no joke. They all think it's going to be a push-over. I loved their faces when they got there. Marines, Sailors, Soldiers, Airmen, if they say anything bad about Coasties, they have no respect for themselves and the country they serve.

  • @92reactor In school (Elementry, Middle, and high) we are taught that the coast guard are a military branch

  • @qnaqna321 I know that. It's just some people in this country are ignorant towards those who serve. I just pissed at the moment because my friend told me the military is nothing but a bunch of .....y'know what, never mind. I will never disrespect a member of the Armed Forces...ever.

  • @92reactor The ignorants are just Jealous :)

  • @qnaqna321 Yes!! Someone who understands!!!

  • @92reactor Oh, and it's Veteran's Day today....just pointing that out....

  • I served in the Army, 4 yrs 3 mos 2 days. I shot cannons and kept Kansas awake at night.

Then I served in the Coast Guard 5 yrs 2 days. I rode out "The Perfect Storm" searching for a fishing boat lost at sea on the USCGC Northland (WMEC904); Then I served on the USCGC Gallatin (WHEC721) and hunted and captured drug smugglers then rescued Haitian immigrants sailing on unseaworthy vessels on the same day in the Caribbean Sea; among other unsaid operations.

The Army was easy by comparison.

  • SEMPER PARATUS!

  • My son is a recruit at TRACEN in Cape May, and will graduate in 2 weeks, couldn't be more proud!!

  • @68mwebb It's hard to believe that it's been 17 years since I was there. Congratulations to you son. I wish him an outstanding career in "The Guard"!

  • my brother, cousin all retired from the USCG very proud of them great port of calls

  • We are proud to be USCG Retirees. My husband was a search and rescue pilot.

  • @leilanikd My father's a GMC At TACLET. Not disclosing the location.

  • Semper fidelis kai paratus

  • @THEDUDESONSROCKs

    Semper fidelis ET paratus

et (lat.) Meaning "and", kai (Ancient greek) meaning "and"

  • @Freakschwimmer ok i just thougth i read a danish- latin dictionary and learned the word kai, but it must have been a danish ancient greek :D, thanks for the help mate.

  • Fantastic!!

  • love your terms of use^^

I was looking around for patriotic songs and there is a conflict on every one I went to

thank you for keeping your comments board clean

  • Wonderful, my son was a Coasty......

  • Thank you so much for making and posting this. Its nice to know that other people appreciate the Coast Guard and it's members

  • The United States Coast Guard has been and always be involved in every battle against weather, drugs, terrorists and much more. SEMPER P!!!

  • For the record, the Band of the Grenadier Guards is a British Army unit, not US.

  • cool

  • @Louismethe - Hate to maybe upset you but the Coast Guard has been involved in almost every war that the U.S. has fought. I was in Vietnam with the Coast Guard, never shot at anyone or got shot at but those on the patrol boats off the coast of Vietnam did shoot at people. The Coast Guard was, and maybe stil is, involved in Iraq. Afghanastan doesn't have any ocean front so I don't think they are there.

  • @retiredcgw Everybody, he is right. The Coast Guard is involved in wars. Even part of the lyrics say "Our flag is carried by our ships in time of war, and peace." Also research wikipedia. Search "U.S. Coast Guard", and it will show the wars they fought in.

  • @14575019 The United States Coast Guard works with directions from the US Navy in times of direct conflict and involvement.

  • @jackanthonycohen True, but the U.S.C.G still participates in conflicts. It's like being ordered by higher ranks to fight.

  • God bless the Coast Guard! Least recognized part of our military :/

  • Nice pix of my old ride..the CGC Jarvis WHEC 725 during unrep drills.

  • I'll be a Guardian soon!Wish me luck guys!

  • I spent 20+ years in the army and reserves. It was not until I moved to southeastern Connecticut that I came to "know" the Coast Guard. I never even thought of them before.

If I were a young man today, it would Coast Guard for me. I really think they are special.

  • @pensacola321 I agree! They really are GREAT! Thank got for those brave heroes, saving so many lives!

  • I really like the brassy accompaniment.

    Go Coast Guard.

  • Soon to be my theme!

  • I am not a big fan of the coast guard but compared to the US army song it's not that great but since I like the army a lot more then any navy units/coastguard

  • @CPTBurns It's all military. In the end we're one big well armed family

  • I'm so prode to have served in this outfit!

  • makes me wanna march around my bedroom in my orange boxers.. awesome.

  • My niece's hubby is a Coastie .... Give'em Hell Andre!

  • Awesome - 'bout time. My kid is in marching band in HS - they recently played a medley of the anthems of the armed services. I sent an email congratulating the band director who arranged it for including the Coast Guard anthem. We're forgotten so many times, like you said.

Matt Dillon, Radioman - USCG 1975-1979

  • For the past 37 years I have lived in Corpus Chrsiti ,Texas and I have observed the activities of the men and the women of the US Coast Guard . These individuals are among the bravest and most dedicated personel who have ever served this nation. My genuine appreciation to them for their committment to our country .

  • from 00:58 to 1:13 i like to put the lyrics from the 1927 2nd verse

    SURVEYOR and NARCISSUS,

    The EAGLE and DISPATCH,

    The HUDSON and the TAMPA

    The names are hard to match;

    From Barrow's shores to Paraguay,

    Great Lakes or ocean's wave,

The Coast Guard fought through storms and winds

    To punish or to save.

  • @rdoggg19 The United States of America's Coast Guard is a Branch of the USA Military. My father was part of the Coast Guard. He went through boot camp and learned to use a rifle. The Coast Guard is like now the National Guard work. They protect the homeland while the other branches go out and fight. The Coast Guard is the Naval National Guard in a sense. They just do peacekeeping missions until actually called upon.

  • @Anonymousbrother MMMM Nope! try again! You know how many battle's we have been involved in? All of em! LOL EVEN Afghanistan. "Coast guard" is a name for my service but we "guard" more than the coast. funny how most think that. later!

  • @Phil4013

    Go Coasties--Stand proud!

  • GO COAST GUARD! SEMPER PARATUS!

  • Come on guys give a little support to the costies trust me theres no one else you want to see if you drank one to many beers and your capsized in the atlantic with the water up to your neck during a catigory 5 hurricane!

  • Thanks, for posting this - speaking of pirates, I lived in Alameda when the USCG, the US Marshalls, the DEA and the FBI cooperated with the SFPD to "arrest" a ship, deport its crew, and confiscate its cargo of illegal substances being delivered to the U.S. God damn the pusher man, and God bless the US Coast Guard for protecting us from an insidious enemy. You could say, "yeah, we'd just make it ourselves," and you'd be right. That day, though, enemies foreign & domestic stood down.

  • @MaggieMae860 Amen to that!

  • @rdoggg19... They take more risks and more often than any other branch of the DOD stateside units. They put their lives at risk daily to defend our largest border from smugglers, illegals, stupid mariners, etc. You must be one of the folks that has an attitude because you couldn't get in!

  • Thanks for the video, from an old coastie. And by the way, rdoggg19, my dad was

in the navy and my brother just retired from the army. The real vets respect each

other's service to their country. The USCG takes a back seat to no one.

  • Happy Birthday t220nd Birthday to the U.S. Coast Guard. The oldest sea going service. Founded in 1790 at Newburyport Mass. Bless all Coasties ,those who risk their lives daily, and those who "have passed the bar"-especially my husband, Jack McCormack. He was a career Coastie, a great husband & father, and a Hell of a helo pilot. Semper Paratus.

  • @rdoggg19 -- them's fighting words!

  • @RamblerGambler Yup!

  • Huh, I have the exact same recording of this march.

  • I served 6 years in the CG reserve. I worked with men who were police in the civilian world and saw more real action in law enforcement than anyone who was active duty full time. I heard about Coast Guard operating landing craft in war, but never met anyone trained as an assault boat coxswain with Marines. I heard endless sea stories from alcoholic coasties who I would'nt trust as far as I could throw. Helping people? I have seen much more as a civilian. Glad I am out.

  • @McDago100 The U. S. Coast Guard, has seen combat in virtually every conflict fought by the United States since 1790. Most of the stories you heard were probably from the WW2 era when they were deployed alongside the Navy in both the Pacific and Atlantic.

  • GOD BLESS USA!

    from spain.

  • They are always part of the military :) God bless the the unforunatley forgotten branch of the military. They do more for us on a day to day basis than normal people will ever know, they do more with less and don't need the lime light to prove they're great. God bless the USA finest fighting force in the world bar none

  • rdogg19...you need to go check your facts. The US Coast Guard IS MOST DEFINITELY a branch of the armed services. And before you refer to them as Puddle Pirates..you need to check out what they do 24/7...!!!!

  • @Rdogg: Please provide proof that the Coast Guard is NOT a branch of the military. Our mission is no less important than any of the other four branches. It does not matter what branch or department we fall under, we ARE a military organization in accordance with the United States Code, Section 14. Our missions are very broad in nature, thus the reason we do MORE than your other four services, and with a hell of a lot less. We fall under the UCMJ 24-7 shipmate...we dont pick and choose.

  • @rdoggg19

They are defined as military by the UCMJ and by international law.

    Legally speaking, yes they are

  • @Reaganwannabe Yes they are military DURING A TIME OF WAR, hence why they would be in the UCMJ. Any other time they are not military

  • @rdoggg19 take some time to learn about your government, those puddle pirates are the only branch of military granted arrest power through the Department of Homeland Security due to their responsibilities of protecting our borders. Not to mention the countless lives saved on a regular basis by the USCG. Any grunt or devil dog.....drowning in the ocean that was yanked up by the coast guard has nothing but respect........ Educate yourself before you make meathead comments!

  • @Reaganwannabe The terror of any Commence Raider and the Bane of Submarines while safeguarding the Convoys and answering the calls of distress to finally getting the troops to the beach and then onto the beach and the wounded back to the hospital ships.

  • @rdoggg19 Discipline is as tough or tougher. Fact. And as far as "war" goes, the Coast Guard is more likely to regularly "pull a weapon" than any other service.

  • @rdoggg19 Grow up. My Coast Guardsmen is an Iraq war vet among other things. They live and work under the UCMJ just like every other branch.

  • @rdoggg19 If you want to put them down, then you are showing your colors. You'll change your tune if they ever save you or one of your loved ones backside.

    God bless them..

  • @rdoggg19 no you mother fucking cock bitch im in the coast guard so go to hell with anyone who makes fun of my coast guard so fuck asshoe

  • @coldmaxmax well my friend when you finally take off your dress and join the real military then you can come play with the big boys. Until then.......go paint a bouy

  • @rdoggg19 Tell it to the families of the souls on flight 6017. My home town has a lot of Coast Guard members. Not puddle pirates. Coast guard. I will withhold further comment......sir.

  • @rdoggg19--a little know fact: the flag that flew on Mt. Surabachi, Iwo Jima, was a US Coast Guard flag. The Coast Guard drove the boats to the beaches on D Day......they served with pride and honor in both Vietnam and Iraq. I think you need to offer an apology.

  • @triode1

My father was BMCS R.R Anderson " United States Coast Guard ,he served in WW2 ,Korea and Vietnam, He retired after 23 years of sacrifice and service to this country, My father was a coxwain on landing craft in WW2. He happened top beat me to Vietnam by a month in 65. Don't ever let anyone say that the Coast Guard is NOT a branch of the military .

  • @rdoggg19

The USCG has Civilian Contractors who work under the Dept of Homeland Security. All the rest live and work under the UCMJ just like every other branch. It is obvious you know nothing of the Coast Guard or ALL of their duties and responsibilities.

I hope you are in some ocean they do not patrol when your damn ship or airplane goes down. People like you are a waste of skin & oxygen.

&You are a terrorist loving jackass to bad mouth such an important part of OUR AMERICAN MILITARY!

  • @rdoggg19

You sir know nothing of what you say ,I would love to have you say that to my face, I will re arrange yours

  • @bobwachtler You know, for those of you who hold the CG is a bracnh of the military you all sure hate my opinion which the military gives me through protecting the constitution. You may not like my beliefe that the CG is not a branch of the military and that is all fine and good, but you are all persecuting me for what I believe which the last time I checked was covered by the 1st Amendment. Now I do respect their mission, I just dont believe they are true military

  • @rdoggg19 its a branch of the military! they have ties with the navy!

  • @rdoggg19 the irony here is that even though the USCG is not part of the Department of Defense, they seem to be the only branch of the military whose focus is DEFENSE. All the others seem to be more focused on OFFENSE. Unless you consider protecting US oil interests defense.

  • @rdoggg19 I wonder what you'll say the day they pull your worthless hide out of the drink.

  • GO USCG!!!!!!!!!! im planning to go into the coast guard when i graduate im also planning to go to the coast guard academy when im 16

  • I am currently a graduating senior and have been thinking of joining the USCG. Could anybody provide some information from me :). Mainly, if you were in the USCG, how was your experience?

  • @Phantomregiment8 my dad has served 18 years in the USCG plus 2 in the army and i intend on joining after i graduate. From my experiences, the under-credited CG is amazing. i have never met such a close-knit group of guys. i wouldn't suggest joining if you don't like boats though, or rough seas, or harsh weather or seeing the entire American coastline. try applying to the academy before you enlist, you get better pay. hope it helps.

  • @PassTheHatred Thank you :)

I'm still thinking about it. I'd like to take care of some things before possibly joining the CG. Like... earn some money, marriage, and getting my own place :P.

  • Great anthem. I consider it to be the best of all the U.S. military service anthems. But, what the heck is the "U.S. Military Band of the Grenadier Guards?"

  • I served from 1970 to 1974, my father served from 1944 to 1946. May lives, property saved and men brought home.

  • God bless all Coastie Hooligans!

  • Thanks guys for keeping us safe !!!!

  • Thank you so much for this absolutely wonderful tribute to the USCG.....I proudly served in the USCG from 1981-1989!

  • GO COAST GUARD WOO HOO

  • SEMPTER PARATUS!

  • They've already hit the ground in Haiti, God Bless them.

What they do now is something that makes us even more proud to be Americans.

  • @fatkinson1954 yea i hit the ground with PSU307 in haiti now home for over a month now... was a great experience... we did great things there...

  • @Masterd275 God Bless our troops.

  • the coast guard is my favorite branch of the military!

  • then the final verse : Aye, we've been "Always Ready"

To do, to fight, or die

Write glory to the shield we wear

    In letters to the sky.

To sink the foe or save the maimed

    Our mission and our pride

We'll carry on 'til Kingdom Come

Ideals for which we've died. sorry, i love the coast guard, and did my homework, this is the 1927 version, *shrugs* i dont care its the best version

  • at 1:14 its: SURVEYOR and NARCISSUS,

    The EAGLE and DISPATCH,

    The HUDSON and the TAMPA

    The names are hard to match;

    From Barrow's shores to Paraguay,

    Great Lakes or ocean's wave,

The Coast Guard fought through storms and winds

To punish or to save. then it goes to the chorus which is in the description

  • at 00:58 its: We're always ready for the call,

We place our trust in Thee.

Through surf and storm and howling gale,

    High shall our purpose be.

    "Semper Paratus" is our guide,

    Our fame, our glory, too.

To fight to save or fight and die,

Aye! Coast Guard we are for you!

  • actually the song goes like this

at :21 From Aztec Shore to Artic Zone

    To Europe and Far East.

The Flag is carried by our ships,

In times of war and peace.

And never have we struck it yet

    In spite of foe-men's might,

Who cheered our crews and cheered again,

    For showing how to fight.

  • i might like the army, navy and airforce, but the coast guard has been my passion, im joining the auxillery when i turn 17 then the USCG Semper paratus

  • Cool For ROTC For Veterans Day I Had To Carry The Coast Guard Flag

  • This is great!! My son is on his way to Cape May in 2 months and what a proud mom I am that he chose the Coast Guards.

  • Many thanks from an old Coastie for this post. I went through Cape May in 1966. Welcome to the USCG family!

  • As a boater, the United States Coast Guard is my favorite branch of our armed services. I've never needed to call on them, but what a feeling to know they are there!

  • Of all the military anthems, I like this one the most. Of course, they're all terrific. Don't hold it against me if I have a favorite.

  • good choice. Say it well. I once met a lt. Commander from the Academy . Nice guy. Was in Vietnam. From my home town of Toledo.

  • My father was in the coast guard. He's like 70-something now, but still, he did his service. I salute him, my brother in the navy, and my sister who was in the army for a short time.

  • omfg for veterans day at our school since im in rotc i had to carry the coast guard flag.

  • Wonderful tribute to the least recognized and possibly least appreciated of our armed forces.

  • im joining the coast guard when i graduate

    Semper Paratus!

  • Good Luck man its extremely rewarding what rate do you want to do

  • One of my cousins served in the USCG for 27 years.

  • GOOOO COASTIES!!!

  • When I was in the University of Nebraska marching band, we would play an armed forces medley once a year. This one was and always will be my favorite.

  • Thank you for this video! God bless our armed forces! Thank you to everyone who has served this country.

  • God bless ANYONE (that's right, I yelled it!) who serves abd protects our country and it's citizens.

  • my pop was in the USCG love em thanks for the video man!

  • I love this piece. And it's the best rendition of it that I've heard.

I had a wonderful friend of many years from the Coast Guard. He passed away quite a few years back. He was quite a guy.

    God Bless our protectors.

  • i really enjoy this anthem (not quite as much as i like "Wild Blue Yonder") because it has such a great variety of instruments that you can hear

  • As a Viet Nam Vet the "Flat Hats" had my respect as thety too went into harms way as did their brothers in the Navy Riverine Forces.Later when I joined the Merchant Marine and got some of their training I have no reservations to say that they are the pros on intercoastal security and S.A.R. When your ship is in deep do-do there is only one service that is trained to come to your aid and I tip my hat to them.

  • Thank you for your service

  • Great Video!

  • Great tribute and collection of photos

  • I plan on joining in 2 years as a pilot... SEMPER PARATUS!!

  • Hail Coastguard

  • totally agree with you on no one noticing... they got 110% of my repect. Im planning on joining in about 2-3 years as a helicopter pilot or jumper.

  • Thanks, you did an excellent job catching the spirit of the USCG.

    ~Mom of a Guardian

  • Anyone can out to sea in a City.

  • Cool ;)

  • yes that orange 'n' white chopper is beutiful. Go Coast Gurad

  • iam planning on joining the uscg as helicopter pilot go U.S.A.!!!!!!!! USCG!!!!!

  • Because of this video I found may way back to the Coast Guard after 36 years!

A back injury ended my Career in the Coast Guard when I was 18.

That day me dream died and has haunted me throughout my life.

Then I found this video, visited some CG Sites and hit a link for the USCG Auxiliary.

I am now a full member of the USCG Auxiliary and at long last TEAM COAST GUARD!

Thanks man for making this video!

    Semper Paratus!

  • Once a Coastie always a Coastie- Welcome back!

  • Thanks for reminding us --Once a Coastie Always a Coastie. And proud to be one!

  • this song really lets you feel 'the strenght' :)

  • Hey, At the end of the vid you spelled rescue wrong

    you said recue its rescue

  • my apologies, were you in the coast guard?

  • not yet, im only 13

  • that's not fair, the USCG and the DoD services just have different missions

  • Yeah, I guess I kinda jumped there. The DoD services do a lot of good work, and I'm also proud of them.

  • don't be stupid.

    jerk

  • and what branch might you be in?

  • If it wasn't for the USCG, the Marines would have had to swim to Guadalcanal, Tarawa, Guam, Saipan, Iwo Jima, Okinawa, Kwajalein...shall I go on. And, frankly, most Marines I've seen aren't very good swimmers. Pulled a lot of grateful people out of the water during my time in. That's what "Tidy Bowl Navy" sailors and "Puddle Pirates" do. USCG PO3 1972-1976 and proud of it.

  • When you said "Puddle Pirates", it brought me back to that funny bar scene with the Navy bar in the Guardian.

Thanks for serving in the finest service! I hope to be a Coastie when I'm old enough.

  • The Coast Guard definately doesn't get enough credit, especially as a branch of the military. I'm in Air Force Junior ROTC at my school and we joke around about how the CG isn't a real branch, but some of them are serious, mostly the ones who want to go into the Marines. I think people should recognize everyone in armed services, no matter what they do. That's just my opinion.

  • well, all the branches make fun of each other, i know, it's the same thing in my Navy Junior ROTC, no biggie though, we all realize we're on the same team

  • Comment removed

  • I proudly served both active and reserve. I was a member of PSU301 and was honored to have been a part of The Gulf War. Semper Paratus!

  • i go to A school in 8 years oraah

  • I think by all means the Coast Guard is the most overlooked of all our branches in our Armed Forces.

  • They are the most overlooked and go thru hell !! My daughter now serves for 4 years and my son in law serves for over 8 years and they risk their lives everyday with NO appreciation but they still put other lives before theirs that is what the USCG does. They are both highly educated with degrees but yet they stlill want to serve. MY brother in law is now a CHIEF who would give his LIFE at a moments notice to rescue ANOTHER but yet our USCG gets no credit!! Semlper Paratus!!

  • i am also in the guard, just joined.

  • TOO bad.. THe USCG gets NO recognition!!!

  • Dude, I'm a former Guardsman, now working at Boeing building 777's.

Your video inspired me to re-join! Not enlisted tho, to old so I've applied to the Coast Guard Auxillary and am very excited and looking forward to serving the United States of America and it's people once again!

    SEMPER PARATUS!

    And THANK YOU!

    5/5

  • wow, just wow, i can't claim any of my video had that kind of affect before. thank you for your service Guardsman!

  • You are right when you said, "the Coast Guard doesn't get as much attention as the other branches" Most people don't know or believe the CG was in Viet Nam or the gulf wars.

  • Yeah, they were in Iraq too, and Cutters hepled carry medical supplies on the Black Sea after the Russia Georgia thing a few months back. and let's not forget that Coast Guardsmen can apply for the Navy SEALs. i personally say that i love the coast guard, and i'm sure i'd love them more if i was drowning in the North Atlantic
