  • Do they go bad on you or do they keep pretty well? How long do you usually keep them ?

  • @AK8591 I'm still using the tomatoes I dried in this video. So, this video was made Aug 2008, it's now 2011. I stored them in the freezer and they taste just as good today as then.

  • if you oil pack them you take a chance of botchulism and death. If you oil them and put in the refrigerator, and keep them cold that is fine.

  • Thanks for the great video. I have lots of tomatoes and I am getting my first dehydrator!

  • That was really helpful. Thank you!

  • Great video. Tomatoes are GREAT, too...:-)

  • Is it possible to rehydrate them for...lets say a sandwich?

  • Sorry no, however I do sprinkle the pulverized dried tomato over buttered bread. It's quite tasty.

  • I thoughti was the only person who ground up

the dry tomato chips for sauces :( one tip on that grind them up at time of use ,leave them as chips till then otherwise they cake up like concrete! i just dried up 10 lbs of on sale mushrooms.last tip;if you grow celery, save the leaves and dry them too. they are a great substitute for parsley in soups and sauces.nesco is a great machine but make sure to get the white tray models and NOT the clear tray mdls as the melt and break ez

  • Thank you so much for watching. Yes, I found that out, it cakes up like concrete but, I also found, if I keep it in the freezer that will not happen. (I have a lot of freezer space)

  • Never saw something like that, kind of cool! ;)

  • I am in shock.

    I actually learned something. :P

  • I'm so pleased. I think I learn something everyday. That's because I forgot yesterday.

  • Can you tell the round-up didn't take. All that rain during 888 must have washed it off. Thank you Lord.

  • Wow!

I have never heard of or seen one of those machines, but how clever!

and what a great way of storing the tomatoes so you can use them throughout the winter.

    I am impressed :-)

    x hugs x

  • thank you. I found it on the internet years ago, to make beef jerky.

  • Never seen that before. Bet you could use them to make a great curry!

  • Yup. This dryer is one of the best purchases I've ever made. Beef jerky is my husbands favorite and I use curry in that. I suppose I could really start from scratch making the curry.

  • Five Stars!

  • Thank you so much

  • I LOVE tomatoes ... dried tomatoes on pizza ... mmmmmmmmmmmm!

  • Me too!

  • well that was great! now all i need is a dehydrator. and tomatoes. or bananas! yummy!!

  • Yep, as I aged, I acquired all these things. Your turn will come.

  • Dried tomatoes?? Yum.. :) Any kind of tomato is a nice tomato.. :)

  • Did you get the part about the bananas ......I was talking about you.

  • Barney hates thunderstorms too.. Never seen a dehydrator like that before, but it's sure faster than sundrying! I was thinking of Banana chips too, when I saw you layer those trays.. I guess that would work very well, yes!! I have just made a lot of Banana comments on a couple of other videos, so forgive me if I am all 'bananad out' at the moment... :)
