  • Obviously, there are other players who are faster, but i can't think of any, who, are of an better character and are not ego-maniacs, shallow minded, self centered, and just plain immature, as Uli. He is one of those special people, that the public at large rarely sees. The tone of Uli's character is reflected in his playing, as well as his being. Even when he is being interviewed, he is such a natural gentleman, and he is not afraid to let his true inner self come forth. He is quite remarkable

  • Uli's got class, man. His phrasing is so fluid, and his bends are so erotic I jizzed my pants.

  • grand hommage a Hendrix

  • Seeing him February 4th!!

  • The tone...my god the tone.

  • Considering that Uli Roth was the man who wrote the song "we'll burn the sky", a lament to Hendrix, and ended up with Hendrix former fiance. I would think that he is doing something right. He is one of the original Scorpions and one hell of a guitarist!

  • @MrDocpop Technically, Uli didn't write We'll Burn The Sky. It was written by Jimi's (and Uli's) former girlfriend, Monika Danneman (lyrics) and Rudolf Schenker. Uli probably should have received a writing credit, though, for his uniquely exquisite lead playing.

  • Stevie Ray did Little Wing more justice than anyone.

  • if Hendrix were still alive he'd have played this song with him on this concert! that would be fucking awesome :O

  • Uli Jon Roth is generally pretty direful vocalist but here he sounds listenable. His guitar playing is incredible once again!

  • ajhakjhgjkashjak♥ i'm inlove of that guitar :B

  • he has the smoothest picking i've ever seen..great great great!

  • great!!!!!

  • @hell5pawn Lol...nice!

  • I love the way the Sky Guitar can switch between a proper chimey single coil sound to a full blown humbucker; most guitars that claim to do this never get it right.

  • @AXEFLYERFV so??

  • The best cover of Little Wing. I love that guy, he's not only awesome guitarist, he's also great vocalist.

    Thanks for sharing :)

  • Dude slow down!

  • @TheNehetCZ what's with the slowing down comment? I didn't get that one sorry!

  • @AXEFLYERFV He plays it too fast, i mean he plays it very well, but i can not fully enjoy it, because it's too fast.

  • @TheNehetCZ well it is a cover & is played live , maybe if it is slower at 30% like ,that guy did with Painkiller from Judas Priest song ,you might fully enjoy it? ;-)...

to me is just right, it is not overly faster than the Hendryx version, but we all have our own preference anyways!

  • @AXEFLYERFV Yeah well Painkiller is meant to be played fast ... although Halford sounds pretty badass in the slow version :D Anyways if you like faster Little Wing, good for you. I only came to look at Uli's awesome guitar... like you said "we all have our own preference anyways"

  • should have stayed with the scorpions

  • Uli Jon Roth is pretty awesome

  • Toca bien pero me gustaria oirla mejor en una stratocaster.

  • EVH was inspired by this guy!!!!!!!!!!!

  • u comparing Hendrix to uli , i know Hendrix inspired Uli but Uli is way too good than him at his age now

  • imagine another response you are by very far the very elite of every guitar player and let us not forget --writer ever-- rob powell

  • whats not to like uki love your sound -- mrrobbp

  • woah that was incredible! i love this guy. that compares to hendrix and frusciante in playing talent.

  • @jrcsgtpeppers Yeah, Uli is so great & such a Humble Down to Earth human beign!

  • @jrcsgtpeppers - I think his bending is very musical and expressive, not showoffy like some metal guitarists that copped him.

  • Esse é fera mesmo!

  • To the guy who says Hendrix "didn't copy anyone" - LOL dude.. you obviously don't know much about music or musicians.. everybody steals from everybody, and that's ok.. it's called "influence"

  • @kennyscott11 exactly! music is art and not economy

  • Rock and roll is for those who deserve !

  • I kinda like his voice. At least in this video, and on Tokyo Tapes in which he sang at the right places.

  • les meilleurs albums des scoprs sont ceux des 70's avec Uli,

  • I can listen/watch Uli play for hours, he is just an amazing guitarist.

  • @LaceratedBalls uli is the best ever such a nice guy too

  • fuck*ng good !

  • This guy's a wonderful musician.

But Hendrix had a real soulful voice, and he didn't copy (sorry, 'tribute') anyone.

  • One of the greatest guitar players of all time...

  • Fucker NEVER looks at his guitar when he plays it, A GOD.

  • he does hendrix better that hendrix

  • @bajaracer40x Toi t'as rien compris à la vie...

  • Beautiful! Uli is amazing! Such a gracious soul!

  • @glluvyduvy1 yes you are right great musician full of soul and technical superb skills and a nice guy too easy going but never piss him off this would go ugly RESPECT is everything

  • great rendition from a great player..

  • This was so awesome last night in Nz

  • I'm surprised he's such a good singer, killer tone and by far and away the coolest guitar ever.

  • Jimmy Hendrix was just resurected for 4 minutes and 34 seconds. Thanks Uli !

  • 3:38

  • may they rest in peace,Uli still alive !

you're just looking for another nasty comment on your page added to the other ones but I won't waste my time with you!

keep off FRIEDWONTON or whatever your name is!

    LMFAO...

  • This is a nice version, however SRV's was better...and Monte Montgomery's was the best. He make guitar playing look so easy.Uli is great!

  • Comment removed

  • Music is subjective... perhaps you think the other versions are better but that doesn't mean they are. You are trying to say your opinions are facts which is pretty ignorant!

  • I'm jumping for joy right now!!!! Uli playing Hendrix!! I love this video!!! Many thanks!!

  • how many frets are there???? have I counted 32???

  • In the 1980s, Roth commissioned construction of custom guitars with additional frets. Uli Jon Roth has (or at least has had) at least five of these "Sky" guitars. They are made by a British luthier, and also used by the guitarist from Fair Warning..

  • The first three Sky guitars were as follows: One had 36 frets, another had 42 frets, and a third one is fretless which was used on the Beyond the Astral Skies album. In an April 2001 Guitar Player Magazine interview, Roth reports that the guitars are either fretless above the 30th fret or have whole step fret spacing above the 27th fret, with 35 effective (half step) frets.

  • All of the Sky guitars with frets have extensive fretboard scalloping as is favored by Swedish guitarist Yngwie Malmsteen (who was influenced greatly by Roth) and many neoclassical metal guitarists. The Sky guitar's pickups are custom 4 coil humbuckers made by John Oram, with one guitar having an Oram pickup hidden under the 24th fret.[3] The guitars named Mighty Wing and Destiny each have 7 strings and the others have 6 strings.

  • The 7th string is a low B string.[4] .The US company 18th Street Guitars made 50 commercial versions of the Sky guitar in 2004[5], each reportedly selling for $18,000 USD. Roth preferred amplifier is currently the Framus Dragon, and he uses a stalk mounted E bow device to introduce infinite sustain during solos.

  • @eduardobcn30 It has 38 frets... yes 38 ! :-o

  • Amazing Guitarist...but I prefer SRV's cover

  • Good version...but I still prefer The Master's! :-)

  • Love Uli for Uli and Hendrix for Hendrix, there both some of the most gifted guitarist so far. R.I.P Jimi

  • have this whole concert on dvd,saw Uli open up for Schenker one tour, saw Barry play bass for UFO one tour and Clive is famous for playing with Jethro Tull. thnx High"AXE" flyer... LOL

  • oh yea, that dvd....autographed by ULI and Michael Scenker, Uli signed abunch of vintage scorps stuff also.

  • You Lucky fan you!!

    LOL!

    Right on!

  • terrible voice but great playing

  • Did Hendrix have a beautiful voice?

  • Yeah, Jimi had a beautiful voice when he sang this song. This dude can't sing shit though ...

  • @vivaimaiden Yes =)

  • @vivaimaiden Hendrix had a pretty wonderfoul voice but not as great as Ulis :-)

And always see: How great all this versions may be, Hendrix is the original composer. So without him the other versions wouldn´t exist.

And: Hendrix was not the greatest guitarist if you look on his technique, but he wrote songs that were many times nicer than what people like Yngwie shred today. And even if you don´t agree with that: Without Hendrix there was no Yngwie, Steve, Uli or all this other guitar stars.

  • @vivaimaiden Yes he actually did

  • So mutch expression in the Roth's playing!

  • Nice one. And he plays it on 7-string right ^^ ?

  • What a tasty version.

    i'm impressed by Uli's playing.

Especially the part starting at 2.40 is incredible,

    such a bluesy feel !

It would have been perfect if he would hit the right

    note and bend on 3.44

    thnx for posting this

  • I missed him this time around so THANX AXE!!!

  • You're welcome & thnx for tuning in!

  • awesome!!!

  • just wondering, why do people scallop the necks of their guitars?

  • I believe is for strenght to your fingers,I don't think Uli has done it to any of his guitars, just in case you were refering to this clip!

    thnx for tuning in!

  • with a scalloped neck your fingers don´t touch the fretboard, only touch the string. It allows greater (and easier) note bendings. Also allows you to play faster.. but it´s a lot more difficult to play these kind of guitars

  • Thank you for the helpful info.!

  • you´re welcome.. by the way great video. I didn´t know Uli Jon Roth very well... I like his music.

  • right on brother!

  • witch year is this and where?

  • 6/23/2001 at Castle Donington,Rock & Blues Festival!

  • I have waited for this video very long :) Thanks.

  • What a great tribute to Hendrix! Thanks Axe! 5 star and clicked to favorites.

  • Thank you for enjoying this cover!

  • Sehr gut, Ulrich. Danke, Axe!
