Uli Johns playing A small club here in detroit on saturday night i cant wait i hear he hangs out with his fans after the gigs maybe ill get a picture opportunity with him
Obviously, there are other players who are faster, but i can't think of any, who, are of an better character and are not ego-maniacs, shallow minded, self centered, and just plain immature, as Uli. He is one of those special people, that the public at large rarely sees. The tone of Uli's character is reflected in his playing, as well as his being. Even when he is being interviewed, he is such a natural gentleman, and he is not afraid to let his true inner self come forth. He is quite remarkable
Considering that Uli Roth was the man who wrote the song "we'll burn the sky", a lament to Hendrix, and ended up with Hendrix former fiance. I would think that he is doing something right. He is one of the original Scorpions and one hell of a guitarist!
@MrDocpop Technically, Uli didn't write We'll Burn The Sky. It was written by Jimi's (and Uli's) former girlfriend, Monika Danneman (lyrics) and Rudolf Schenker. Uli probably should have received a writing credit, though, for his uniquely exquisite lead playing.
I love the way the Sky Guitar can switch between a proper chimey single coil sound to a full blown humbucker; most guitars that claim to do this never get it right.
@TheNehetCZ well it is a cover & is played live , maybe if it is slower at 30% like ,that guy did with Painkiller from Judas Priest song ,you might fully enjoy it? ;-)...
to me is just right, it is not overly faster than the Hendryx version, but we all have our own preference anyways!
@AXEFLYERFV Yeah well Painkiller is meant to be played fast ... although Halford sounds pretty badass in the slow version :D Anyways if you like faster Little Wing, good for you. I only came to look at Uli's awesome guitar... like you said "we all have our own preference anyways"
To the guy who says Hendrix "didn't copy anyone" - LOL dude.. you obviously don't know much about music or musicians.. everybody steals from everybody, and that's ok.. it's called "influence"
@glluvyduvy1 yes you are right great musician full of soul and technical superb skills and a nice guy too easy going but never piss him off this would go ugly RESPECT is everything
Music is subjective... perhaps you think the other versions are better but that doesn't mean they are. You are trying to say your opinions are facts which is pretty ignorant!
In the 1980s, Roth commissioned construction of custom guitars with additional frets. Uli Jon Roth has (or at least has had) at least five of these "Sky" guitars. They are made by a British luthier, and also used by the guitarist from Fair Warning..
The first three Sky guitars were as follows: One had 36 frets, another had 42 frets, and a third one is fretless which was used on the Beyond the Astral Skies album. In an April 2001 Guitar Player Magazine interview, Roth reports that the guitars are either fretless above the 30th fret or have whole step fret spacing above the 27th fret, with 35 effective (half step) frets.
All of the Sky guitars with frets have extensive fretboard scalloping as is favored by Swedish guitarist Yngwie Malmsteen (who was influenced greatly by Roth) and many neoclassical metal guitarists. The Sky guitar's pickups are custom 4 coil humbuckers made by John Oram, with one guitar having an Oram pickup hidden under the 24th fret.[3] The guitars named Mighty Wing and Destiny each have 7 strings and the others have 6 strings.
The 7th string is a low B string.[4] .The US company 18th Street Guitars made 50 commercial versions of the Sky guitar in 2004[5], each reportedly selling for $18,000 USD. Roth preferred amplifier is currently the Framus Dragon, and he uses a stalk mounted E bow device to introduce infinite sustain during solos.
have this whole concert on dvd,saw Uli open up for Schenker one tour, saw Barry play bass for UFO one tour and Clive is famous for playing with Jethro Tull. thnx High"AXE" flyer... LOL
@vivaimaiden Hendrix had a pretty wonderfoul voice but not as great as Ulis :-)
And always see: How great all this versions may be, Hendrix is the original composer. So without him the other versions wouldn´t exist.
And: Hendrix was not the greatest guitarist if you look on his technique, but he wrote songs that were many times nicer than what people like Yngwie shred today. And even if you don´t agree with that: Without Hendrix there was no Yngwie, Steve, Uli or all this other guitar stars.
with a scalloped neck your fingers don´t touch the fretboard, only touch the string. It allows greater (and easier) note bendings. Also allows you to play faster.. but it´s a lot more difficult to play these kind of guitars

I believe is for strenght to your fingers,I don't think Uli has done it to any of his guitars, just in case you were refering to this clip!

with a scalloped neck your fingers don´t touch the fretboard, only touch the string. It allows greater (and easier) note bendings. Also allows you to play faster.. but it´s a lot more difficult to play these kind of guitars
