  • 2:13 this man on the left side with sintezator = Hugh Laurie (Dr. House) !!

  • Wogan didn't seriously call her "ephemeral" at the end of the clip, did he? Still Kate is brilliant as always.

  • KATE YOU ARE GREAT !

  • Probably the most progressive female singer/artist ever!

  • a great artist that you can't copy/paste

  • So is this a prophecy to HAARP and/or the creepy sounds heard worldwide? yep, the world is a fucked up place now

  • Absolutely brilliant.....

  • She was 27-28 at this point and already a living legend. This whole piece of work visually and the song itself is extremely high in quality.

  • Unique / Einzigartig.

  • WOW WOW WOW WOW unbelievable! captivating, mesmerizing, and very slick!

  • If she's not singing live, I doubt that she would have wanted to. Her craft is honed over many months in a studio. The craft here is also in the acting performance which is like a mini-video in itself. She made her own space on television. It was incredibly experimental stuff and yet she was so charming that it appears that everyone was entranced by her.

  • she is part of the elite..so she knows what's up...this is facts about this song...expirments under what is called Montauk at long island new york."recently as the Vietnam War my sources tell me that various frequencies were hurled at the Viet Cong, frequencies so strong they shattered people's ear drums, which burst in their heads, killing them"

look up project montauk...yup still occuring today as .h.a.a.r.p weather modification

  • @theywarnedus She's just a girl from Kent actually who happened to be a complete genius.

  • Quite brilliant, music, lyrics, video. Creativity at its very best.

  • @noelcleal not creativity...but truth..the "elite" must let us know what they are doing even before the y do it..if your smart enought to avoid it...but if your ignorant and think it's all just entertainment....well your loss...

pillars and triangles....all illuminati...and yeah they exist...believe me you have been brought up on mind programming and a buch of flase science and history...WE ARE WAYY BEHIND....on technology..."they" have kept us like cavemen....shitty but true..

  • @theywarnedus Ur so right, which is exactly y artists like Kate Bush r so Innovative, becus she is not the "norm." The majority will b sheep, its how they r, they cant help it. Its the ones that were mostly bullied, mocked at school or stood out in whatever way that r truly individual that contribute sumthing to history and r remembered. And those r the ones that help change things.

  • what a video

  • What. A. FUCKING. Legend.

  • ♪♫♥ !

  • I just bought this off i-tunes. and now i have to wait 3 weeks for her new cd

  • Maybe he meant "ethereal." He should probably avoid shooting from the hip like that if he has such a weak grasp on vocabulary.

  • One of the best parts about Kate Bush is how humble she is. You can tell in her smile at 4:08 that she's genuinely appreciative of the response from the audience.

  • she is the most interesting and brilliant artist of her time.

  • I remember watching this on Wogan; I was 16 years old. As a synth geek I was counting the Fairlights...... Conceptual? Gaga - watch and learn.

  • AHHHH!! Where can I get this song? I don't want to have to buy the whole album - I already have all her other songs..!

  • Mä tykkään sen sössötyksestä;)

  • oh god, how her voice thrills me like nothing else . honestly, what a talented person. quirky, intelligent, inventive, humourus and interesting yes, prob the best looking woman i've ever seen.. it all adds up to a senses-overload.. i can only watch in small sections or i would explode into a well, something big and explodey :)

Makes me proud to be British and a musician. crumbs.

  • I love hearing Kate Bush in any shape or form. I wish this song was on an album so I could buy it on Itunes.

  • @loooooooo65432 It's on "The Whole Story" Greatest Hits collection. This was the "and this WILL be a greatest hit" addition to that compilation, the current single.

  • This is a different version than the 12" single version!

  • She appeared live in person, if not in voice, on WOGAN more than once, and Kate Bush's live appearances are very rare indeed...

her mother was a big fan of the show, hence her appearances.

  • I just have to say what hotdogpoppa said is wrong. Of course we brits know what Live is, its our language ;o) However in regards to kate bush, she was a physical performer, sometimes she would lypsync or even simply dance to her songs. the Head microphone was actually invented for kate due to how much she moved about on stage with her dancing.

  • Awesome, the first time I have seen this, Kate is a true british legend

  • mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

  • At least she shows up here, not like in the video. This is actually better than the music video.

  • two fairlights! syndrums and syntar! nigel kennedy! this is pretty much perfect.

  • two fairlights!

  • "It could be so baaaaad" - love the juvenilistic vocalization in that one word. Don't know why. Oh. Right. Kate.

  • sorry kate bush. i seek more.

  • even better than the original version

  • Eh già un semplice errore nela realizzazione del magnifico piano per usare la musica come strumento di offesa e di attacco in un conflitto....

Il video è un capolavoro di regia ad opera della stessa Kate, mia musa di tanti anni fa

  • So, how does one get Kate out of her fortress of solitude and into the real world to do some sort of show, however small?

  • Kate is Great! I've loved her for years. I hope she is still doing well. Thanks for posting this.

  • This song is one of the the first of hers that I ever heard. I was blown away. She is amazing.

  • Was she actually married to Del Palmer? I don't think she was.

  • No, Del palmer is a fantastic bass player, he wasnt at this taping, I dont know who the drummer is but he doesnt know the tune, not much of a drummer either by the looks of things. oh well cant be too pedantic I supose, it is about kate ans kate was fabulously subdued in this!

  • pretty boy drummer doesnt know the song..

  • This song always passed me by...it wasn't acutally on an album was it? What's the story?

  • It can be found on "The whole story"

  • This is seriously AWESOME. Only Kate Bush could make an entire and genius performance out of sitting at a desk. I adore her! She's my hero.

  • Wonder what Kate is talking to Nigel about at the end of the song? "What do you think of this menu for dinner tonight?" or "This swathe for the salon off the dining room?"

  • It's only taboo when the artist and/or program mislead the audience into thinking that the performance is live. This isn't the case here. And it certainly looks like Kate Bush is "live" as opposed to billowing around a secret research facility conducting an "experiment in sound."

  • Nigel Kennedy on violin!!!

So much fun to see this. Thx

  • Naprosto super

  • Favorite of all Kate Bush, listen and watch again and again . . . . and again!

  • absolutely fantastic song and performance. Kate is one of a kind, no one like her will ever exist again. We must appreciate her while she's here.

  • Where else to you get a storyline and choreography and the music and everything else in 4 mins? It was only Wogan as well!

  • Goliath Flores

  • Kate is sooo K^^L, and vid great ! she is the chairwoman.

  • Yes Very cool is Kate, I like her music very much....5/5..

  • whaT guitar is that?

  • Not a 100% sure, but I think it's a Synthaxe made by Bill Aitken in the 80s and is a fretted, guitar-like MIDI controller. So, not really a guitar...

  • LOL! Too right...on both counts! ;-D

Wow, I hadn't heard that about Red Shoes. How sad for KB fans everywhere, if that was the case. I liked many of the songs on that album. It wasn't my fave, but it was better than some lesser artist's best efforts...

I agree with you whole-heartedly about the chance to see Kate perform live...big sigh. She is stunning in this video, and yet she is sitting the entire time at a desk!

Have a good evening, godemp! It's been nice talking with you about Kate! :-)

  • Ashlee Who? ;) (I had to look her up on here, I didn't think I'd actually heard her sing before ... and I was right)

Maybe it's just rumor, but I thought Red Shoes was written with the intent of touring; except that negative reaction to the album halted that idea.

I'd still love to see her live.

  • It was certainly the most accessible music, that could have been performed live.. however during the making of that album, Kate's mother died.. i think that contributed more so to the idea of abandoning the tour... making the short film as compensation instead: The line, the cross and the curve.

  • Kate Bush has had me under her spell for 31yrs,she is beautiful, talented, original and unique.......what a woman!

  • hehehehehe me too :-) im 51

  • Terrifying

Not the song - the fact that she sits at a desk and is completely impossible to tear your eyes away from.

I know she wants us to love her music regardless, but she is the most b-e-a-u-t-i-f-u-l woman I've ever seen (2:08)!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I agree I can't take my eye's of Kate, everytime I look in the mirror I see Kate's reflection staring at me, saying help me with experiment v!!!

  • There was never anybody like Kate before and there's been nobody like her since. Kate's one of a kind and I love her and her music.

  • All she does is sit at a desk, and she's got us all mesmerized. How many other performers, never mind singers, can do that?

  • God I love her. She brings out the obsessive in me. Some people seem to hold an inexhaustible fascination. She never ceases to amaze me.

  • This is such an interesting song. It featured on 'The Whole Story', a kind of compilation of some of her best known songs at that stage. But it didn't feature on either the album before it, Hounds of Love, or the album after it, The Sensual World. In that respect, it's like her 'Paperback Writer'. The song has the familiar drum work of the 'Hounds of Love' album but makes an increasing use of strings, as The Sensual World would do. It's a brilliant half way house bridge between the 2 albums.

  • Hugh Laurie is in here!

  • Yes !!! ethereal is the perfect way to describe her !!! TY weenyone !!!

  • He actually says ephemeral, not ethereal; which makes no sense. Short lived?!

  • Not live, but a truly great song and performance!

  • ethereal |iˈθi(ə)rēəl|

    adjective

1 extremely delicate and light in a way that seems too perfect for this world : her ethereal beauty | a singer who has a weirdly ethereal voice.

    • heavenly or spiritual : ethereal, otherworldly visions.

2 Chemistry (of a solution) having diethyl ether as a solvent.

  • Not a great performance - I miss her dancing with her backing dancers and performance in the way that she did

  • for kate it's about the theatre - and to make sure no one cocks up the theatre, she prefers to do it to a backing track.

but when she performs live, singing and playing, she's amazing

  • And incidentally, Kate's voice live is just as sweet and haunting as any recording, and way more 'real'. No more lip-synching! It's NOT live!

  • I think Kate's view is that she wants to focus on the visual effects and theatre elements on her lives. She thinks that the sound is better when produced in the studio.

She cares about the quality of the final product instead of showing off her talent, which I can understand. Lip-syncing is bad because people tend to cheat with it. Knowing that Kate can in fact sing live as good as in the studio, I can overlook that.

  • So many Fairlights at the same place. It costed so much at this time just for one... Excellent song anyway, as always with Kate.

  • Well, a true Kate Bush fan would know that she hardly EVER does 'live' performances without lip-synching. You just can't get the same mysticism from her voice when it's live. It's not typicalled British to call this live, it's just she was on television, and it's classed as 'live' television.

So I feel justified in putting Live onto it.

    Thanks for the Comment...

  • @CHFCooper Yeah, she hates doing public or touring altogether. So her appearance itself should be appreciated. It's a live performance/representation of the song's sensation(s). Ashley and her ilk don't provide desirable sensations in pretty much anything that they do. Popular American music is typically trash.

  • Featuring a very young Nigel Kennedy

  • This is mad - but brilliant.

  • i've never seen this. cool. although this looks lip synched rather than actually being performed live. i love how understated her performance is here.

  • Thank you for posting this. The YouTube Nazi's removed the only other posting of this rare tv broadcast.

Which is stupid, because a lot of Kate Bush fans can't watch this video anywhere else. I don't think it's on any commercial DVD as far as I know. I could be wrong though.

  • Only person that can be so awsome while sitting down!!! THAT WAS SO COOL!!! I love the song! She a very good actor and i love her music1!!

  • Thank you so much for posting this! I love Kate Bush and to see something like this is just magic. She is pure genius and sexy too, even when she's just sitting.Cheers
