As soon as I saw how uncomfortable he was in that suit, I knew he was a nerd. When he started talking, I could just imagine that voice raging over some game. They found someone who actually knows their stuff. Well done.
Piracy is indeed created by the media. Disney even created their own piracy system, and tried to justify saying that they were paying artists and such to use their copyrighted material when in reality they were making more money than they should have been giving. Correct? Sounds about right to me especially about our fucked up money grubbing government
Julian Sanchez pretty much read my mind. Well done. As another point. Look at Valve's Steam, it's a highly successful product which is growing by leaps and bounds every year. Which reinforces Julian's point that if you make it convenient and affordable for people to get content they will gladly pay for it.
Hi Everyone, This Su11ydud3, and I'm very passionate about stopping SOPA, Please check out my video on how you can spread the message. I've made an application that basically forces someone to at least look at SOPA and understand what it is, then opens the petition to stop it, the user has a choice to acept or decline signing but at least they have to look. thanks and have a great after noon, morning, night, and day!
Lets put things into perspective. If the telemarketing industry had billion dollar corporations, we would likely be facing laws that would require a landline in homes. If piracy of music was a REAL issue, there would not be record sales continuing to rise. I have said many times, when a business model is failing, creating laws to force people to conform the failed business model is futile. The industry needs to evolve with the times.
Off button illegal in TV's... Max Headroom... Memories???
The best way to reduce piracy is to make a product people want and sell it at a price they are willing to pay.
As for counterfeit products... Maybe if corporations didn't outsource jobs, Chinese factories wouldn't have such easy access to the intellectual property they are counterfeiting.
You know what saddens me. How about the entertainment industry that is bribing the living shit out of congress do some creative instead. You know like open up a itunes/steam version of their own stores. I know that itunes got me to stop pirating music. I know drive thru rpgs got me to stop pirating rpg books. Making easy access stores that I don't have to worry about getting a virus does reduce piracy. Problem is that the industry is too fucking narrow minded to see that.
witholut "piracy" or sharing, that guy in zimbabwe wouldn't even know what photoshop is. Sharing promotes the product and makes it wildly popular overseas.
What SOPA is going to do is crackdown on sites that do infringe (to payback Dodd's financeers) When they've done that, they'll say, "see, we're not abusing power with this"
Use of SOPA will remain fairly dormant until the gov't does something very unpopular (like go to war with IRAN). When the Egypt-like protests begin, they'll use SOPA to force ISPS to shutdown Facebook and youtube. The US gov't learned how effective shutting down social media can be for those clinging to power at any cost.
@skyzefawlun you bring up a good point. know why? because the reason they made drugs illegal is so they can synthesize them and sell heroin pills to us? half the country, old and young are on either pain killers or anti-depressants. they want a piece of the pie and they don't give a flying fuck if they turn us all into junkies. as long as they get paid.
He explained the facts around this bullshit act quite well. Only thing to add is that the backers of SOPA are actually the ones who intentionally made piracy possible.
Hollywood (and major video game publishers) already have deals with certain ISPs in USA and Canada, so that when a user downloads something illegal through peer to peer software, he will receive an e-mail from his ISP with a warning. I believe after 6 strikes, they can shut down your internet. So if anything, they already do fight piracy with very successful methods.
And let's not forget that those very same tools used for piracy were made and pushed by the same guys pushing SOPA (search CNET)
One time I would have shrugged that off as tinfoil hat talk however turns out the main companies backing SOPA had a monopoly on and made a profit from distributing the file sharing software
It's really sad that the young people who have embraced piracy don't have a clue what is going on & because it doesn't effect their i-phones they don't care.
My own kids & their husbands look at me like I'm wearing a tin foil hat when I talk about his stuff & they are the biggest losers in this deal, but they just don't get it.
Personally I'm old school I still buy CDs and DVDs.... I hate the low quality of pirate media makes my ridiculously expensive stereo sound bad!
The ending point here should be underlined, as it's the root cause of piracy: Easy access at a fair price. This means global simultaneously avalibility, an easy to use client that has a big enough content database, and fair pr unit or subscription costs.
Other than Netflix and Spotify, you also have Steam for downloading videogames instantly at (usually) fair prices with a good system around it. And then there's app stores.
On line piracey was created by those that produced the software that made the content available in the first place. If the software is free, and the sites that promote there content as free, which is created by the companies that promote the artists, then what you have is an intrapment scenario.
So long as good movies and music keep coming out piracy will be alive and well, the answer to stopping piracy is that all the 'good' musicians and actors get killed and replaced with crappy ones.

""Piracy"" aka: sharing COPiES of worthless data.
Create laws against that ? SERIOUSLY
If it can be copied endlessly at nearly a zero cost ?
IT IS ACTUALLY WORTHLESS. (basic economics)
Those big media Corps need to get a better business model.
( trying to sell worthless copies , that's a business model ? )
Those corrupt politicians need to be thrown in jail for taking bribes.
