  • Looked a hard landing - I hope they replace the tyres before I go on it in a couple weeks

  • does the pilot perform a static start during takeoff like the RJ85 pilots do? Also, apart from the US Immigration and Customs clearance at Shannon, I thought the other reason was because LCY didn't have the catering facilities to service long haul flights like this one?

  • That BRITISH Airways attendant sounds French?

  • in response to what people have commented here, the aircraft only stops in Shannon on the LCY-JFK leg, the return flight to London is direct. The fuel stop in Ireland is only because of US pre-border clearance there, and the fact that the runway at LCY is a bit short to carry a full load of fuel

  • alot of these flights in and out of lcy. You can get an excellent view of these air craft and landing at royal albert station behind the newham dockside building. quite windy in the winter months though. f

  • To clear up the confusion, this is an Airbus a318, which is Business class only flight to JFK-London City, via Shannon for refueling and legal work.

  • Quick flight? New York-Shannon-London City?

  • @Mickiemike1 They dont stop at Shannon on the way from JFK

  • Like how the spoilers are set to "Flight Descent" for a fast final.

  • I cant believe it Airbus A318 cross the atlantic ocean, but wikipedia say Airbus A318 use for route LCY-JFK and JFK-LCY x_x

  • i was on the flight and return flight before

  • FROM new york ?? JFK ??? 0_____o in a318 ???

  • @foreverIfly Yes it's a direct flight from JFK to LCY on this A318 however this fleet has been modified to be Business Class only, thus reducing the take off weight.

  • @foreverIfly Yes... BAW have 2 A318 that have the route LCY to JFK daily... It departs LCY and lands at O'Shannon for refuel on its way to JFK,and goes back direct from JFK to LCY... This 2 A318's is capable of taking 32 passengers in a all business class layout :D

  • lucky9876coins how long was the flight?

  • I had seen a video on this airplane but i didn't believe it existed. Its fantastic. But the seats was larger? And were there the monitors in front of each seats?

  • @luilory its a buisness flight

  • How long is the flight?

  • omg a318 from city airport to JFk, no way you cant be serious

  • @SuperArshavin2010 As a matter of fact it does, It stops off at Shannon so that the passengers can get custom clearance and to refuel.

  • I think BA's JFK to LCY is a huge marketable success. I plan to visit London soon and I think I would enjoy traveling from LAS to JFK (I'll take Virgin America) then JFK to LCY, mainly to avoid having to deal with hassles landing @ Heathrow & Gatwick. Most importantly, its proximity to the city center is a winner in my book.

  • is it an A 318 CJ

  • How long is the stop at Shannon? Great video! The only on youtube?

  • find it amazing how its a A318 Crossing the Atlantic!!

  • Did you have a good flight? was it busy? was it worth the money?

  • how long was this flight

  • Doesn't dry steering ruin the wheels?

  • @EEN9B No not really unless your taxiing too fast

  • LOL Should be French Airways with that announcement

  • speed brakes deployed. bloody right!

However, this got me wondering, are both runways (09/27) operational at LCY? I imagine it would be fairly risky doing finals over Canary Wharf, therefore I can imagine they only use 27. Is this why the speed brakes are deployed throughout the descent here - because the Airbus isn't landing into a headwind?

  • @joonas179 well, not at all, it has been special designed for it... light weighted & capacitated for everything.

  • @joonas179 it depends on the weather and winds, normally it is 7hrs 25mins...

  • Comment removed

  • How did it turn like that after landing?

  • The last couple of seconds show the remains of a rail siding, at tribute to LCYs dockside past? or is it just an unneccessary to remove leftover from the development of the airport.

  • Stop bullshitting.

JFK TO LCY? On an a319?

    1) jfk flights go to LHR

    2) that aircraft dosent go over the atlantic!

  • @SmallChild93 get informed. Yes, LCY-SNN (shannon, Ireland for customs and refueling) -JFK-LCY on an A318. They push the fuel limits, yes, but they have increased the range since they are all business class and fly 32 people. Yes, the aircraft's low range would be a factor in high density economy, but without the extra people, it's no big deal for the little aircraft. It's not small, it's fun-sized. :)

  • @SmallChild93 First of all its an A318, not A319. Secondly, there are only 32 passengers on the flight since its all business class. The flight westbound stops in Shannon Ireland for US customs pre-clearance and a splash of fuel to make up for the prevailing headwinds you get heading west. The return flight JFK to LCY is direct I believe.

In case you're intrested, Air Canada flew an A319 service between St. Johns Newfoundland and LHR (I think they stopped it then restarted it)

  • @HaggisPowah Air Canada still operate the A319 between Canada and the UK, however it's only a seasonal service, that's why you don't see it over the winter! :)

  • @SmallChild93 wrong wrong and wrong again......this is a first/business cabin lay out only, B.A. has a route like this and they have extra fuel tanks so yes it can go over the atlantic.

  • @imanseven It doesn't have extra fuel tanks. SNN-JFK is one of the shortest Tatl route, but the A318 could probably do LHR-JFK anyway. The westbound flight is no problem with the wind on your side. Also with only dozens of people on board the plane is lighter and drinks less fuel.

  • @N330AA make that eastbound...eastbound has the tailwind, westbound has headwind.... trust me ive flown across the atlantic more than 50 times with Aer Lingus. (im not a pilot).

  • @DYLAV8R You're quite right, a simple error on my part

  • How can the a318 fly 3000 + miles?

  • @omnia762 As the a318 cannot take off from LCY on a fullfuel tank it stops off at Shannon, Ireland, then goes to JFK. Then from JFK to LCY. The Rolls Royce engines that Ba used for the 318 use less fuel for longer distances, it is also so efficient as the plane is small. The engines can take the fuel of say a 737 and fly double the amount a normal 737 can in perfect weather.

  • @omnia762 its designed to fly a long range.

  • Haha, love the touch-downs at LCY, simply incomparable!

  • Thank for Airbus' Autopilot! Special edition for LCY.

  • yes it is

  • I flew on this flight once. seat 1a it was a nice flight but hard landing in london and quick takeoff

  • Quick flight? JFK-LCY isn't exactly quick!

  • @scaremenga its faster than the SYD-LHR and is short for an international flight.

  • Is that a French accent? lol

  • @ddarkdomz Oh oui french accent, this is a french crew , i recognize the accent

  • I never see landing with speed break open....

  • @fokkertam It's because of the approach pattern to LCY. The tall buildings and such require the aircraft to come down quick.

  • from new york????

  • graet:_)

  • wow the a318 slows down fast at LCY doesnt it, never seen a plane decelerate that quickly

  • @ricka006 autobrakes 3 :/

  • Always excitied to see A318 in LCY! This is the first inside vid :-) Thanks for sharing!

  • how is it a quick flight its like 5 hours or 6

  • i cant believe an A319 can fly all the way to JFK is this a joke?

  • @charlieiscool1000 its an a318

  • @charlieiscool1000 even more unbelieveable- it's an A318, even smaller! But this is no joke. BA operates twice daily direct flights from london city to new york and back. The A318 has the longest range of the A320 family

  • The reason for the London CIty - JFK flight is that London City Airport is in the heart of London unlike London Heathrow which is 15 miles from the city. And is right next to the financial district of London, canary wharf etc. Also it is a lot quicker for passengers as it is quieter and also planes land without having to circle over London like they do into Heathrow. So I would guess for someone arriving or departing from London taking this flight would save maybe an hour or more!?

  • @amag89 This is not a normal A318 it's an ACJ - Airbus Corporate Jet, It's a business jet, that can do long range flights wich BA bought so it can operate LCY-JFK, it's all business

  • Comment removed

  • @armandollv

LCY-JFK but with a fuel stop in shannon ;-)

otherwise the fuel weight would make the a318's takeoff weight to heavy for this runway in LCY.

    cheers, dom

  • @amag89 This is mainly a replacement for the Concorde service. It makes immigration into the US easier as it is performed in Shannon where it takes less time, during the aircraft is refueled.

The fact that they fly from London City Airport saves business travellers about 1-2 hours compared to a Heathrow flight, because it is both closer to the business center of London and much smaller, thus less crowded than Heathrow allowing faster ground operations.

  • very nice video, and looks to be a better service from LCY rather than LHR or CDG.The flight attendant seems to have a french accent??

  • How long was the flight a 747 does a flight in 12 hours

  • @weirdguyable It dosent take a 747 12 hours to America, more around the 7-8 hour mark.

  • @FlightSimSA depends on the location in America. London-California can take 12 hours...

  • dont it depend on where in america your going. it took 7hr.40 when i went lhr to nyc

  • @FlightSimSA lhr-lax 12 i've done it 4 times this year and numerous times before it takes 12 hours

  • @weirdguyable

    LHR-JFK? 6hours and 45 minutes and your there :-)

  • i never realised they do this service

  • SHIT Rough landing! Lol great vid

  • The guys that fly this service are trained to bang it down like that. It's to lessen the chances of having to do a go around cos they floated for too long. And that lovely French voice you can here belongs to our Olivier who is just wonderful and yet another reason to fly this service if you can.

  • good video

  • great video

  • Nice approach isn't it! BA does a twice daily (weedays) service from LCY-SNN-JFK-LCY. The Airbus uses the outer spoilers to prevent it from accelerating on the 5.5 steep approach glide path. It's just a software adjustment, similar to what we do on our BA Embraer's into LCY. The A318 can only enter/vacate the runway at taxiway 'D' due to wingspan/clearance. (don't know about 'K', 'L', or 'M'.) Runway is only 30m wide. Just normwal ops really but always exiting to watch!

  • @Dutchbird757 All the questions I had about the spoilers you answered! Thanks!

  • @ny1092 You're welcome.

  • @Dutchbird757 Thanks for answering the question that was in my head.

  • @Dutchbird757 i thought the flight was direct

  • @bells11967 they have to do a stop in shannon airport, cause they can't takeoff london city with full tanks. JFK-LCY is direct :)

  • @Dutchbird757 also the A318 can only tax to the stands 20-25

  • JFK TO LCY, LOLZ.

  • Great vid. I didn't know flights operated from JFK to London City Airport. Interesting.

  • @truedanielg I heard they'd started rather recently...

  • Thanks for posting this

  • speed brakes up right down to minimums at 100ft. lord, that's a first sighting for me - right up to the flare at 50ft !

  • ive never seen that either thats really weird.....

  • it's because London City airport's runway is not very long, so they have to be going at a slower speed, plus restrictions make the approach a bit steep at times, so the pilots have to compensate the speed with the angle of the aircraft.

  • how did you turn around? I have never seen a plane turn like that!

  • @bver100

normal thrust and full tilt right at minimum speed, done :-)
