@mordenviabank hm. thanks for the honest opinion. I play plenty of shows with other bands and projects, my acoustic stuff is just something I've fucked around with for years and never showed anyone, so I wanted some stranger's opinions before showing it to people who know and like me and will probably be polite and/or lie to me. Strangers have nothing to be polite about. yours is the first flat-out negative opinion. what do you particularly dislike?
@jumeau1 oh no, i didn't actually listen to your stuff, sorry if you got that impression. when i said 'stop it' i meant stop advertising your band in youtube comments, because i don't think it's a productive way to get people interested. not that it's any of my business, but i was trying to help.
sorry if you thought i was insulting your music, i wasn't.
@mordenviabank ha, I see. actually, I agree with you and had forgotten that I posted that a few months ago, which is why I just removed it. I was just at a point where I wanted some opinions on the songs but wasn't comfortable showing them to people I know and not ready to play them live so I figured this was a good and anonymous way to do it. it is rather annoying to see people spamming their own stuff on here though, my bad.
i love that there's 0 dislikes (so far. but i'm sure there will be retards disliking sometime soon). as for stellarconverter's comment - i think it's wonderful. for some people it's about remembering your first love, for others - it's absence ;)) for me - it's the most beautiful song ever made by someone (imo, of course)
I read The Beach at uni to this song just before summer when I went to live in Greece for a while and it was in my head all summer, weirdly I fell in love with a girl that I knew for sure would never be the one!
This is not your average song. This album is a masterpiece, and timeless. I can't even tell you how many cigs have been smoked to this song.. just reflecting.
Have loved this song for so long...and yes, it brings me back to another time & place too.....the bay area in the 90's. Funny, hearing it now, it reminds me of The Sundays, that great british band, I can just hear Harriet Wheeler singing it.
this song is about lost love and nostalgia. What I love about it is that the track is upbeat and sunshiny, while the meaning of the song is tragic and heartbreaking. 'Grace Cathedral Park' is about letting go, yet keeping the memory in full extent... Mark Kozelek is a genius and this band is a bliss...
Rollercoaster by Red House Painters is a sensitive, heartfelt album although it's a litle too uniform. Nevertheless, I much prefer it to Everclear (1991) by American Music Club.
when you consider the whole album, the depths of despair...I like to finish listening through, and then return to the start again to listen to this one more time.

I feel the coming on
Of the fading sun
And i know for sure
That you'll never be the one
I just wish you are

This song perfectly captures the feeling of visiting a big city as a kid while it's overcast and raining...

After listening to this song it feels like it was just yesterday that I was with my first girlfriend...hand in hand, staring at the ceiling...... :(

Jealous of this guy's songs. Gotta show love to someone who let's you in on their most emotional outpourings. These songs are from the heart.

wide ranging influence..check the chord progression on Conqueror by Jesu.

@indencity There's an interview with Broadrick where he basically says his whole reason for starting Jesu was to do something similar to RHP.

Who can compare the devastating beautiful sadness that Mark acheives? Moz?Hope?Natalie?Juan Gabriel?
MrDLOC11 2 years ago
@MrDLOC11 Natalie who? Juan Gabriel who? I'd say the only person who is similar is Vic Chesnutt.
