I loved JP Patches and watched him every morning at 7 a.m. When the show ended I knew it was time to go to school. There are very few shows today that can equal let alone get close to the quality of JP's show. Wholesome, clean, fun and without a doubt, the best show ever made for children.
I Remember growing up with JP when i was growing up. i lived in south Seattle at that time. i really enjoyed watching him every day in the morning and in the afternoon.
He's still dressing up as JP, in fact we're going to have him appear at our high school reunion this summer. He's a really nice guy and when I called him we talked for a long time, and the whole time I was thinking, "I'm talking to JP!" lol He doesn't live too far from me, in fact I've seen him drive down my street in full JP makeup on his way to one appearance or another.
OMG! I have lived in the midwest for 30 years now but grew up in Tacoma and I never missed JP before school (I got to shake hands with JP and Gertrude at a Cub Scout rally!). It's fantastic to see him after all these years. God bless you, JP!
Yes, I to remember JP.. But he was not the first clown on air.. There was Teeny The Clown on Ch 4.. He also was Safeway's clown in and around Seattle...
You know, it is hard for me to watch JP Patches without his makeup. Silly, I know, but there it is. My head is flooded with old memories at the moment. Thanks for posting.
That's great! I remember realizing that I had the same carpet in the rumpus room as J. P. had in his place...I told my friends at play school and I was the coolest guy for a little while. Gurtrude/Ketchikan the Animal Man, Esmeralda, the things in the basement and "Watch out for that Hoooooooooooooole". TV needs more shows like this.
That was a great interview, John. I had a brief interview with him just the other day when he appeared at the Admiral Theater - I asked him if he liked baked beans and he said that he did not. (Maybe one question is too short to be called an interview?)

Back in 1966 when I was six years of age I had broken my left arm and I wrote to JP and he actually replied to me and sent a photo!
Chris Wedes is truly one-of-a-kind. A genuinely phenomenal person. Thank you SO much for posting this great clip.

I wrote JP and told him he did help when I was a young boy. I had a painful childhood and the one thing I could count on was JP. Thank you.
