@drkcrstl You should definitely play them, but I'll explain here how the series works. They were originally called Dragon Warrior in North America.

Dragon Warrior 1-4 were released for NES in NA.

Dragon Warrior 5 was Japan only, but recently was remade for DS in NA as Dragon Quest 5.

Dragon Warrior 6 was also Japan only, but a DS remake should be released soon.

DW 7 was released for PS1 in NA.

Then there's this game.

DQ 9 came out on DS last month.

And DQ 10 is in the making for Wii.

Dragon Quest VIII is one of my all time favourite games of all time. Either on the Playstation 2 or any other system have I ever played a game that felt as engaging as this and it truly showed off the power of the Playstation 2 with the cel-shaded graphics, orchestrated music and the voice acting was spot on. I hope the next game in the series for a console -no matter what it is- can be just as fantastic because after this game, there are some big BIG shoes to fill.

Is there monster recruiting in this version? I was surprised they had it in V for such an old game and also surprised by how much the Pokemon games stole from the DQ series.

You know I really love the art design for this game I'm a fan of Akira Toriyama's style. But unfortunately I can't stand when his characters have English dubs. I wish there was an original Japanese version with Subtitles. I couldn't even watch Dragon Ball Z as a kid because their voice acting was so horrible.

Well it takes a long time to get enough experience to level up, and with the small amount of gold you get makes it even harder to acquire any of the good weapons and armor.

You don't really need the levels, I can usually play all the way through without level grinding, and as far as buying the good weapons, etc, that's why you need to learn the alchemy pot mixes. Most of the stuff you can make yourself and save a lot of gold.
