We inhabited the Earth naturally and as we were born we died at a slightly lower rate, hence population increases.

We have the ability to save 80% of medically treatable injuries and illnesses.

To be frank, we are surviving too well. We are reproducing far quicker than we die. So, we will run out of space and kill each other trying to find more of it.

People in rural India have been using cow dung to line their verandahs to keep away insects. The message that the movie is trying to send is that sometimes the simplest things can be the most effective. The tractor that uses alcohol costs money that farmers in India cannot afford. I think that even from this short intro the solution to saving the world is obvious. Ban GMO's, grow your own farm animals feeding ONLY pure natural organic foods and reuse their fertilizer to grow more crops. It is a simple easy solution for ALL farmers. No more cost of round up, no more cost of genetically modified seed. Just normal farming! Go save the world!

@lisachimi I sort of disagree... I think the most important change is to control the population. People have to stop breeding. Raising organic animals (which I don't like since I think we live well without animal products but that's not part of the discussion) or eating only organic food is not enough if our population keep growing at this rate. I don't think the world needs "saving". It will eventually get rid of us, and continue on with the other forms of life. It's an accounting imbalance. The true cost of our actions (consumer speaking) is masked because we end up taking "funds" from nature and ecological systems. These are all free to us...right now. I live in an arid region, the cost of my water SHOULD be around $16/gallon!! But cheap oil makes it easy to treat and transport to my tap.

Doesn't it seem a little odd to anyone that someone with a "save the world" caliber idea wants to sell us a DVD to find out what that solution is? Certainly they are adding to the waste they are complaining about by creating and distributing so many unnecessary copies of a film they could easily post on the web. If their idea is any good plenty of people will contribute money and effort to their cause. For this reason I don't have much hope that their message is a genuinely valuable one.

In a perfect world your comment might apply. Sadly we live in a less than perfect environment that pressures us to barter our message for money. Our films are entirely self funded so if we are to continue our work we must either charge for them or win the lottery. Do you have a job or are you independently wealthy? If the latter, perhaps you would contribute to our cause and then we could give our message away free.

But it does create a problem for those trying to wisely invest in a better future, since they have limited funds to spend and don't know which of the many claims to better futures are worth funding. I'm left with no sense of what sort of solution you are offering. Is it merely lower yield but far more sustainable farming techniques? Is there a technological breakthrough of some kind (it could be very low tech, but still be a novel and excellent solution?)

@tburstyn, Do you know the story of the Kahn Academy? I think it proves that you're wrong about charging for educational videos. He wasn't the least bit concerned about being paid for the effort he put into it and now runs the largest school (by number of active students) in the entire world. He's won grants from organizations like the Gates Foundation. I don't know if he applied for them (but I doubt it.) I think they found him because of the popularity and quality of his work.

There's nothing wrong with wanting to make a profit--the problem of capitalism is simply in our implementations of it: the un-redressed externalities that transfer wealth from poor to rich. All of the non-tax revenue of the US government actually belongs to its people (for example.) The airwaves are worth leasing because our ears and eyes give them value. That revenue is really ours.

The way I see it is not that the population is the problem, but the farming conditions with regard to pesticides and poor quality seeds, genetically engineered or otherwise. The call to wake up is that our food is crap for those very reasons and our health is at risk. And this is all over the planet, not just India.

India's landmass is 2,973,190 sq km compare to New Zealand, 268,021 sq km. Maybe thats why its densely populated in India. Im pretty sure the food is very abundant in India and also in New Zealand. It just because average Indian people cannot buy a readily food in the markets. Maybe they dont make enough money to buy food and their wages stinks. So they just rather lower their standard of living to meet their quantities of living. More like, "Im taking a bus home instead of my luxurious Humvee."

Having so many kids without any planning is obviously has no education when it comes to family planning. Its not like we should stop people having kids 'coz they dont have jobs.
