While I like this song very much, this is one of their weakest videos, Granted the lyrics dancing around and being projected is a nice idea, but that stuff had little to do with the song except for the eco-facts. With a bit of budget they could have portrayed the sort of life in a post-apocalyptic/nature reclaiming the earth kind of scenario described so brilliantly in the lyrics. Think David Byrne et al in a 'walking dead' scenario, only without the zombies. OK, maybe a couple of zombies.
"And as things fell apart / Nobody paid much attention" - Bret Easton Ellis used that as the epigraph at the beginning of 'American Psycho' Genius collides with genius.
my favourite Talking Heads track by a country mile love it !! lots of talented guests on there too including the late great Kirsty McColl god bless Kirsty a great talent lost xx
I'm glad they went back to their jams and free-play of their earlier work for their final album. It's like they came full circle before they finished.
@irishmanufan You should check out David Byrne's solo album Rei Momo Kirsty sings backing on that album too, she would have made a great Talking Head, love her attitude in this vid.
There should be more songs about the growing threat of environmentalism and the ceaseless creep of the wilderness encroaching upon our beautiful, fragile urban environments.
@mgragor It looks like so. One might like them or not, but the Talking Heads are unique. Their music is different from anybody's else. Byrne really seems to have taken inspiration from another world: maybe he has ;-)
They've done something to this VideoClip. I'm sure in the original clip when they showed half the singers' faces during the "You got it" line there was text on the opposite vacant part of the screen. Advertising current social issues and things like "20,000 acres of Amazon forest are torn down each day" etc.
if you go on myspace and choose to search 'videos' and type 'nothing but flowers' then you should find the first two results are of the music video. if you go on the first one, it includes all of the facts about social issues.
the Talking Heads were, by and large, David Byrne. have you checked out his solo career? he is as brilliant as ever. please do yourself a big favor, and have a listen!

Only just noticed Johnny Marr on guitar! Like an impossible dream to me in the 80's- Talking Head and Smiths guitar!
Do you know an indie guitarist that sounds like a yeast based spread? No but Johnny Marr might.
My fav joke from Adam and Joe's 6 music show.
