Love this guy on drums! He's freakin' amazing! Looks like he's driving the bus man! You nigga have all my respect ! How anybody could dislike this? Love and Peace, to all universe ! Billy Kilson forever !
Some people just have the gift and Bill is one of them. I guess if played every day for a couple years straight i could get there. I get the nasty face when he's rollin them sticks.
That was amazing I just saw Chris Botti and Billy Kilson at the Kennedy center last night. In my opinon Billy Kilson is the best drummer I've seen hands down
God i love this guy! He has the perfect balance of loud blazing licks with AMAZING dynamics with everything he does. I just about jumped out of my seat from 5:34-5:36. Check out "Not for Nothin'" by the Dave Holland Quintet. killin record.
I can't tell how many times I had to laugh during this performance because of all the incredibly wild and wonderful tricks that Billy performed on his drums ... his beautifully executed fills, and the fantastic & PHAT grooves he laid down. Wow! Gotta check more of his playing out for sure! Thanks for posting this ENJOYABLE performance! Bad, bad dude to be sure!
Saw him on the Boston PBS special and my husband and I agree he is one of the best drummers we have ever seen or heard. Percussion beats and melodic changes magificent!
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
He raises his shoulders on 2 and 4 in an awkward way - wasted energy. His groove is too stiff. Doesn't REALLY swing sometimes. Does have chops, though (but so do 100,000 9th graders).
yo bro the way he raises his shoulders is awkward to you because you don't understand what groove really is and how everyone does it differently.. this dude is a master drummer, check out all the different projects he's played on and you will want to take back your post, pretty disrespectful to someone of this caliber.
yeah....id have to agree. Chris, and Mark were all Amazing....but Billy.....man oh man....he's defintely the sickest drummer I've ever heard. And he gets into it which makes it even better. SICKNESS!
How can Dave Holland fire this guy? Nate Smith is insane, but Billy Kilson is literally his own genre of music.
Let me repeat myself, Billy Kilson the drummer plays a different genre than anyone else. His style is a completely new thing. Nobody can do what he does for a band. Best drummer since Buddy Rich.
Actually, in an interview with drummerworld magazine, Billy said Holland called him up a night before a tour with the big band and told him "Sorry, we're just looking for different sound" and Billy thought he was joking at first. But he wasn't. Dave went with Nate Smith(and now Eric Harland for the sextet). I'm sure Kilson wasn't too heartbroken though. Could you ever be sad with that much groove?
Just saw he 2 fridays ago performing a FREE concert here on Long Island and he said he performs with BK Groove 256 days a year. I think hes doing fine.
i got the opportunity to see chris live in knoxville Tn back in feb.and bill kilson stole the show..i mean mark whitfield was hilarious but kilson was just on another level his beats are just so.....complex but its the passion and feel for the music he plays with that impressed me the most
saw him with Larry Carlton at the Blue Note a few years ago. He kept knocking over the cymbals like at the end of this video. He was mesmerizing, though. A stunning talent.
cool !! I saw Chris Botti at Ronnie Scotts a couple of nights ago. Billy Kilson was drumming. Pretty cool to see a band as tight as a ducks chuff working off eachother in such a cool small venue.
At 6:00 he looses his right stick. But who cares, everybody who ever stood on a stage knows, that things like this ALWAYS happen, even when you're the best musician in the world (Kilson). If no mistake is happening, it's playback!
My favourite drummer, our Billy!!! Respect, Mr. Kilson!!!!!
My comment was to the person who claimed that "the guitarist is lost". I simply asked the person to point out where he thinks this occurs in the video.
i do like kilson. i feel that he loses the pulse sometimes. that happens here and there, with holland, hagans, or in his solo albuns. i think that he goes for quite complex figures and sometimes misses the basic quarter note bars... but that is much better than having a great pulse and never risking anything...

This guy is incredible!
It's as if he were saying
"Now that I have your attention, check this out!"
He is a master of creativity within the groove.
So relaxed too.
props to the bass player and pianist for holding the groove at the end!

Was he fired? I thought Kilson was playing with other groups, and Dave wanted him to play strictly with him. So, Billy left.
