Im running a single turbo muffler right now didnt have much time to play with it since rebuild... just got it running again and now winter starts and back to park it goes...

@punchmaster123 funny u say that because that 2.3 motor with a turbo on it will kick the 5.0 v8s ass for that year, haha. the only reason they stopped making the svo was because it was making more HP than the v8s
Pretty damn cool. When I was in high School,one of the cool cars to have was a Pinto station wagon. It was the 70's, we did shit like that. Love to have a Pinto wagon with this engine set-up in it. Be a badass sleeper.

A true car guy. The back seat is filthy, but the engine bay is spotless. What did you do about the electronics? Did you use the ECU, and entire harness from the T-Bird? I have a stock 84 SVO that could use a bit of updating.
@Bronco2devon i was going to go sc but turbo is free power.. sc take power to make power but have no lag at all vs turbos have lag but again i make full boost at 2500rpm what more do you need... but you need a turbo motor to do this..not just an na motor...unless you plane on running low boost.. not worth it..go turbo its easier...

depends how you drive them..if you drive like a granny you will get great gas mileage..and when its time to hammer down the 4cyl will beat the 8cyl..ive had a few 5.0's and i now have an SVO and best 5,000 ive ever spent
@FoxBodyMike87 I had 3 4cyl Mustangs.... They were old beaters worth $300 each and it make no sense spending money on them no matter how fast they are...... 30mpg? No way... stock the SVO did 30mpg but with low boost and 170hp. The fast SVO have extensive mods, a large turbo and 20plus boost. They guzzle like a v8, if not more. You can't make power and save fuel.. impossible.

u can machine a dohc volvo head, i dont remember what year, and it bolts onto the stock 2.3 ford block, im sure theres videos on youtube of such a swap, much cheaper than going with a cossie swap, try looking around at merkur desktop .com or maybe its merkurencyclopedia. com, turbo ford. net (or org i dont remember) might tell you what u need, it doesnt really make much more power tho...just looks cool, either way..
@emsevas acually it does make alot more power stock head flows 230cfm ported to all hell, but the volvo bf head flows 240 stock unported there are some mods and plates to weld on i know some guys who make a kit for it to bolt on its a nice dohc head sounds mean....

@holmd90 the engine is out of a 4 cylinder mustang, the mustang svo had the 4cylinder engine, but was turboed. Find you a good 1987, to a 1993 4 cylinder mustang, in most of the lx mustangs those years, you can come accross one of these engines very cheap most of the times. i give one away for free. Then get you the turbo and there you go.
my 90lx has a line going from the bottom of the engine block back into the oil filter and then pours it back into the top of the engine where the oil cap is... any chance you know what exactly it is? is it some sort of mod that idiots think gains like 5hp?
@TurboBoostTurboBoost lol i really dont know my car didnt have that... but if its for the oil cooler then its pooring coolent into the motor lol... im not sure who did that...all i can think of is extra filtration and lube for lifters...its not necessary....
In Thunderchickens, Rustangs, Merkurs, Cossies.. more or less.. there were some slight diferences.. mainly between the computers and VAMs so far as I recall. And then there was a few Special cossie projects and variations. And one legendary Illusive DOHC version that has one single news clipping floating around.
and then theres all the non turbo versions in everything else ford.

the volvo and ford 2.3L are TOTALY un related, completely different engines..
however, some very inteeligent and ambitious ppl have come up with a way to fab a volvo head onto the ford engine.. lotsa work and know-how and skills are involved.. not somethign the for the general do-it-yourselfer..
otherwise, aside from engine size, they are unrealated at all..

um yea stock 5.0 only has 190hp to 250 depending on year.stock so yes i could and have beet stock and modified 5.0's and 4.6... already beet a 06 saleen with dealership sticker still on window...lost him at 150mph as i climed to 176mph...

Also even if he did, what guage was he looking at to get such an accurate reading as 176? In the discription it even says 2.3 FINISHED. If he couldn't even afford to paint the car of get a mid pipe or car-back, do you really think he took the time to put in a suspension or even tuned the car to go up to 176 ? or even 160? i dont think so...

@oddessy2g You may not realize this, but you responded to that after I posted. Im guessing you did an SVO drivetrain swap? The C4, and AL4D most certainly did not do 176mph. The WC T-5 used in the SVO (and every V8 T5 After) were limited to 155.And it cant handle the gearing required for that kind of speed. The reason you won't tell anybody anything is because you know that its really easy to do a top speed calculation. I didn't say I knew everything, I just know bullshit when I see it. -

just for sodium there is nothing diff about the car the turbo is a 22 year old turbo so is the block and almost all parts that really matter. they where faster on the strip then the v8's. i really dont understand your point on 20 years of tech makes a diff.
40mpg? the engine is a 4cyl and a small one at that not much bigger than a jetski engine so it might indeed get some awesome mpg the SVO was created during a time that mpg was on everyones mind thats why they didnt do the V-8 of course back then the car was fairly slow on a dragstrip 20 years of turbo technology sure made a diff

@tchase1209 I'll start by saying that I love these cars, my buddy had one..it was an awesome ride.
But I'll have to disagree with your reason as to why Ford stopped production.
IMHO it was because:
1. Most potential Mustang buyers (who want "power") wanted the v8.
2. The SVO was about 6k more than a standard 5.0 Mustang. This could be a big reason for not choosing the turbo 2.3 over the 5.0.
So a 6k premium and the want for a v8 by most is why production was stopped (IMHO).

the volvo and ford 2.3L are TOTALY un related, completely different engines..
however, some very inteeligent and ambitious ppl have come up with a way to fab a volvo head onto the ford engine.. lotsa work and know-how and skills are involved.. not somethign the for the general do-it-yourselfer..
otherwise, aside from engine size, they are unrealated at all..

The cosworth block is stronger and the head has 16 valves, we had the 8 valve turbo and used it in racing but its slow in comparison.

btw my point was the 16 valve head allows u to make more power at less boost and if the blocks have the same basic castings then its a bolt on swap.

um yea stock 5.0 only has 190hp to 250 depending on year.stock so yes i could and have beet stock and modified 5.0's and 4.6... already beet a 06 saleen with dealership sticker still on window...lost him at 150mph as i climed to 176mph...

@Shomelife i never said anything about 2.3 turbo mustangs not being able to hit 176mph, BUT what i DID say was that THIS car did not go 176mph. Also even if he did, what guage was he looking at to get such an accurate reading as 176? In the discription it even says 2.3 FINISHED. If he couldn't even afford to paint the car of get a mid pipe or car-back, do you really think he took the time to put in a suspension or even tuned the car to go up to 176 ? or even 160? i dont think so...

@ericbam1227 I don't really think the suspension was so bad that it couldn't handle 176 in a straight line, but I see your point. Then again, if I had the choice between tuning my car or painting it with $4,000 I'd go with tuning. Just me though.

@oddessy2g You may not realize this, but you responded to that after I posted. Im guessing you did an SVO drivetrain swap? The C4, and AL4D most certainly did not do 176mph. The WC T-5 used in the SVO (and every V8 T5 After) were limited to 155.And it cant handle the gearing required for that kind of speed. The reason you won't tell anybody anything is because you know that its really easy to do a top speed calculation. I didn't say I knew everything, I just know bullshit when I see it. -

what would you do if you had 2 mustangs a 90 and a 79 and you had a turbo from a diesel truck on the 79 and havnt put the second turbo on the 90 stang what would you do?? would you put 2 turbos on one of them or 4 a twin turbo and the both are 2.3L and i cant decide because im scared to blow something up.. and do you know a website that will tell me how to hook up the turbo or where some instructions are to hook it up or something thanks..really need help...

just for sodium there is nothing diff about the car the turbo is a 22 year old turbo so is the block and almost all parts that really matter. they where faster on the strip then the v8's. i really dont understand your point on 20 years of tech makes a diff.

40mpg? the engine is a 4cyl and a small one at that not much bigger than a jetski engine so it might indeed get some awesome mpg the SVO was created during a time that mpg was on everyones mind thats why they didnt do the V-8 of course back then the car was fairly slow on a dragstrip 20 years of turbo technology sure made a diff

Nice man. Good sleeper. Personally I would leave it the way it is on the outside and just let the Turbo do the talking. I'm looking to get an 88 TC myself. Such a good project car.
