Has anyone ever noticed that there isnt an uploaded clip of she answers the sun (lazy bones) I'm curious to know if anyone has come across this song by paul kelly on youtube!!! Have searched and searched to no success.. Beautiful song <3
Paul said at one of his performances that he was in a taxi one day. Bogan taxi driver said "Ohh you're that guy! The guy.. Paul Kelly! That's it! Oh you're the guy that sang that song.. what's it called..? At her door!!"
paul kelly is a person who can tell the stories from both sides. he sings about real life, and peoples lives. hes a true australian legend in story telling as Banjo patterson, slim dusty.
@Treehouseman verse 4 . So now its ten years later, he's working with her brother, bought emselves a big pub down along the coast, and when he wants to see her , meets her in the diner, cuddle and a quick kiss, shovels down a quick roast, they go walkin in the rain, 4 kids think they're insane. as he lifts her , thru THEIR door. Wrote this a few years ago coz sick of the sads. Sorry Paul and all!

totally true musicians such as this no more bloody multiculturilsm cant spell but seriously bring back white australia policy best idea ever or at least teach them all english make them listen to true blue couple of hundred times:)
@jadeeilleenteresea Ok, maybe you need to listen to From Little Things Big Things Grow, by Kev Carmody and Paul Kelly. The white Australia policy was a horrible and rasist policy. There are reasons for why it was abolished in the 1970's, and it will NEVER return. Multiculturalism is part of our national identity, people should be allowed to keep their original culture while still sharing our beliefs, respecting our rights and obeying our laws. Thats what Australian citizenship is.
@10eilis i respect your opinion but i should be able to have mine and from when i was younger Australia just seems to of gone down hill sorry but its just the way i see it.
@jadeeilleenteresea that's fine to have your own opinion and im sure many others agree with you. But we brought in immigrants to help the country grow, not in just the economy, but think about the different foods, sport, culture, music, dance etc that immigrants have brought. I think expanding our country in this way has done more good than bad. Also the white australia policy ruined our ties with japan at the time, and it's since majorly improved. So just consider the benefits as well
@jadeeilleenteresea to all you cry babies fuck all of you everyone has a right to their opinion so just get over it. It doesn't matter if you agree with me or not I have friends that absolutely disagree with me and we're still friends who cares what i say but it is still my opinion i hate that we are such a multicultural country so suck it!!
This song makes me think of my ex and I. We split on somewhat amiable terms, before it got ugly...
But I remain positive, we are back in talks friendly even, even though she is now living in Sydney. Hopefully I can make it to her door. This song inspires me to keep my chin up :)
Paul Kelly, Australia's most prolific songwriter. Released 24 years ago, and Paul Kelly is still he same great performer. He has written songs for just about every famous name in Australia, and they usually become hits. Way to go and with great respect for your great abilities, Mr Kelly.
This song is totally awesome. What a class act Paul Kelly is...why does the world waste its time with rubbish like "Australian Idol"? Manufactured pop is an insult to geniuses like this man!
Does anyone else have a little moment of internal music combustion when the gretsch and drums kick in on verse 2? And then again on part 2 of the solo (again the gretsch very nice tone). Great song.
@cummingsbj Haha me too!! I had the great pleasure to work in your beautiful country for 6 years.I learnt you have some very talented artists there.God bless you Australia I love you.
@zeppelite I believe that just because a person is publicly known, if they re in the street doing there own thing they should be allowed to do it without being approached by complete strangers. Who knows, he might have been having a really bad day. How would you feel if everytime you walked out the door someone wanted to shake your hand, or say gidday, or sign this please etc. It would drive me insane.
As someone who grew up in Australia and now lives in Britain, it always amazes me that people over here haven't heard of Paul Kelly. He's one of the greatest living songwriters.
@yodasbum Who the hell are you? Do you write music? If you do please post it on you tube and I'll critique it for you. I bet you couldn't come close to Paul Kelly's musical talent or his integrity as a man. YOU SUCK.

I'm very disappointed to here that what did he do? I'm a huge fan and for my birthday once my wife wrote off to him asking him to send me a birthday wish, about a week after my birthday I received a note from him apologising for the lateness with a signed shirt by him and Uncle Bill. I was wrapped.

That's right, or for the connoisseurs I believe she was Dola in Poor Man's Orange. I like how your page automatically plays How To Make Gravy, which just happens to be my fav Paul song, how did you customeise it to do that. If it's a big long process don't worry I'm sure I can figure it out.
To be honest, I can't even remember....I think because it was my first and best video I just left it their...I believe it's Paul's best song, how freaking smart if he though.
Your correct, though he was Australian this has very American sounds like The Band's music. Telling stories in those wonderful musical ways. Great tunes, good rhythm, good voice, good message.
Saw a brief glimpse of Kelly and the Coloured Girls playing out the back of The Fitzgerald pub in Perth in 1988 when this song was on the radio all the time. The gig was sold out and only viewable for those of us without tickets by climbing up a 10ft wooden fence. Awesome music.
Thanks for the explanation to some of the lyrical references.

They got married early, never had no money
Then when he got laid off they really hit the skids
He started up his drinking, then they started fighting
He took it pretty badly, she took both the kids
She said: "I'm not standing by, to watch you slowly die
So watch me walking, out the door, out the door, out the door"
She said, "Shove it, Jack, I'm walking out the fucking door"
