  • Awesome. One of the best bass-lines of all time IMHO. Used to have the 7" single, this was B side to Mayor of Simpleton, and always ended up playing this instead -

I read it said that XTC seem to 'pack more music into their music' than most other bands. Too true!

  • Brilliant! I'll definitely pay more attenti9on to the bass line next time I listen to this track. Well done!

  • What a great bass line for a great song! And thank you for your excellent isolation of the bass part.

  • IN LOVE WITH THIS!

  • Great tone -- great feel -- very difficult to perform any of Colin Moulding's basslines, but you've done an excellent job. I imagine your pumping this into your PC/laptop with a DI, in which case your tone deserves even more congratulations! Would love to hear you do this thru' an Ampeg rig and a Trace Elliott rig, just to hear the difference in nuance that you'd bring to the song.

  • Colin Moulding is a great example of beta-male musical genius. The whole of Oranges and Lemons is a testament to the contributions of the second wheel. Let's all send Colin Moulding wads of dough, in Euros. Who's with me?

  • Great playing. I love hearing these lines isolated. I met Colin Moulding once when they were in america promoting Oranges and Lemons. I mentioned the felt pic to him - I wonder if he ever tried one.

  • Yo, u shud check out my buddy kevin playin guitar...you 2 could match up your skills amazingly...his username is

kvan123 you might not like metal, but he can play classical guitar...anything he can learn fast too..... watch a few of his vids, and see for yourself

  • Brilliant job.

  • Nice touch

  • Great job! It's interesting to listen to the bass, which is always a bit "hidden" on record.

After listening to this, I'm going to buy "Oranges and Lemons" for the third or fourth time. What a wonderfurl album.

  • kudos - for bass & XTC - yeah !

  • Yeah its bloody Moulding himself! Good job dood!

  • I want to be you when I grow up :)

  • I agree, best song on Oranges and Lemons. I never realized the bass was this intricate to this song, excellent job! I just started picking up some simple bass lines lately, but I'm a drummer by trade, it's always neat to notice how your ears start to focus on new things when you're thinking about it from a different perspective..

  • Awesome job! Best song off Oranges & Lemons

  • dude! fabulous job! the chorus is perfect, better than I can do.... the verses however, you have got the right hand way off every second bar... listen carefully with headphones... one or two notes off in the bridge and a missing slide somewhere, but otherwise fabulous work on this tricky song.

Colin played this on a Wal 4 string on the album.

  • very impressive

  • Terrific.

I wish I could play half as good as you.

    Congratulations.

  • Wow! watching you play the bass lines makes me appreciate all the XTC songs I know even more.. and I love love love the album that this is on..yeah, where is your face?

  • Let's see your face! Thats definitely Colin..,

  • what's your daily rate? - you are clearly a major talent. I'll hire you on the spot to play on my songs - are you available?

  • DUDE!!! YOU MAKE COLIN PROUD!!!!!! :)

  • great job, this has always been one of my favourite Moulding songs, and also bassline. :)

do you know if this is actually played on a 5-string? I'd be interested to know as I always assumed Colin never went for 'em.

  • I don't think he ever played one. Most of the tunes I have played on YouTube do not use the extra string, this tune is no different. Thank you and take care.

  • Nice, This bass line is kind of funny too.

  • Great job from another bass player!

  • i've looking at your vids - spectacular - do you work out all the lines too? i tried working this out once by ear and gave up.

    or is that you colin?

  • what's the tuning on this one?

  • I never really noted this bassline. It's a odd one, but your playing it so clearly makes me pay it new, due attention!

  • Sweet! Nice Job! - I always loved the Bass

    Line to this song.

  • nice
