  • search shirehorses frank spencer.... much better than this toss!

  • i've seen them live more times that i can remember, but the first time i saw them was with r.l. burnside at the Fillmore in San Francisco (on Nov. 19, 1996 according to the poster.) anyway, as you can imagine, that was one hell of a show. and while the video here is good, it doesn't do them justice. their charisma live was absolutely mind-blowing. it was definitely a fun time to be young and alive!!!

  • Feels like I'm travelling through a penis nerve as one of Space Ghost's neurons.

  • I have seen these guys a couple times now and Russell Simins is way bigger in person, I am not sure how that man does not destroy those drum heads because he sure beats the shit out of them!

  • I knew this band in 2002 and I know they were playing experimental blues rock since 1990, White Stripes is far away from them

  • is one of the guitars doing the bassline?

  • @ChrisD1andOnly no...guitars only in this band most of the time. sometimes they'll get a bassist to play on a recording but the 3 piece is guitars only

  • @annenyctheoriginal thanks for the answer :)

  • This is what Blue Cheer's 'Summertime Blues" would look like in color LOL

  • I just don't understand sometimes how bands like JSBX don't go around and beat the living shit out of the many lesser bands that followed them (and got more famous and made more money)

  • these guys are great. never seen this vid b4. Seen them twice, tired me out & I'm pretty sure I was trippin

  • La puissance du trio le plus explosif du rock. Albums réédités récemment pour ceux qui achètent des cd.

  • Someone could tell me about those bell bottoms ?

Are they those jeans weared in the 6O's ?

We used to call them "elephant feet" jeans in France.

  • @unmedication yeah bell bottom jeans (and other material) somehow keep coming back, some 40 years later. Funny how fashion is such a cyclical beast :)

  • Sooooo SEXY! :)

  • Great song!

  • No, no thank you John. You Spencer...

  • 2:52 what kind of guitar is that?

  • @i18k Looks like an old japanese guitar like teisco and silvertone.

  • Seeing JSBX live in a small venue beats seeing ANY arena band...ANY day!!!

Good memories. Hey Jon, come to Portland OR soon!!!!

  • nice song lol

  • What happened to the first half of the song?!? The violins in the intro are the shizz!

  • I've been a fan of the White Stripes for years and I have to agree that the Blues Explosion crush them, by a long shot.

  • @RaygunShaun White Stripes are amazing too ...

  • @RaygunShaun There would be no White Stripes without JSBX. Just like there would be no Oasis without the Stone Roses.

  • @annenyctheoriginal Not true. Like comparing blues music and oranges.

  • they're great! i want the blues explosion in Rome!

  • Comment removed

  • You really need a sub woffer to hear this song!! Killer bass!

  • Pussy Galore's Dial M for Motherfucker is the best album cover ever!

  • people really do think too hard about the blues explosion

  • you thick f**k how isthis mainstream!

  • mozart was a nigger.

i say that those who don't love the jon spencer blues explosion ought to chew on my crotch.

didn't this come out about 15 years ago? isn't that like 10 years before pretentious, ornery, middle american virgins like you started using the term "hater" as an epithet? christ, what sort of jerk off is threatened by THIS shit? ok, pussy galore's first eps were genius, but now... what sort of douche fuck actively hates something so irrelevant?

  • JSBX fans are not "indie hipsters", and no one would ever claim the lyrics are good. It's just raw, fun energy. If anyone is snarky, it's you.

  • Jesus, what *is* your problem [apart from being a pretentious arsehole that is]?

  • I've loved this song for a long time but this is one shitty music video

  • This man can do whatever he wants to my body.

  • I never knew JSBX were in Guantanamo.

Shit, they must've rocked that bay!

  • Fantastic!! both the song and the video. ***** from Igor

  • hahahaha. i love this

  • Groooovy....

  • YEAH

  • Rad

  • Mad as a window.

First time heard these muthers tonight and i like.

Reminds of... Captain B, and Stump. Goodly work.

  • This vid always puts a smile on my face, even on the worse of days.

  • this could only happened in the 90's

  • This band should've been massive.

Now I like the White Stripes, but these knock them out of the water!

  • ...of course I meant to say *blow* them out of the water.

  • i agree with you. and yes, white stripes is super duper. i think jack white is better musician and has a bigger musical brain than jon spencer, but this guy really rocksss

  • I think JSBX showed more creativity & really tried to push the envelope musically.

Hope nobody thinks I'm slagging off the Stripes here; I really DO like them. There's room for them both to be huge, especially considering most of the lacklustre shit we've had to put up with this decade.

  • @artstuX you're bsolutely right about the STRIPES they really were lucky to get toLONDINIUM where there probably wasn't much appening and the Br Press liked them so much that the got B I G but Jon Spencer way more interesting and powerful I agree...that said...a trio has to be more poweringful than a duet whatdoyoosay?

  • Well, thaey've got more flexibility with a larger band, and they can certainly produce a 'bigger' sound, that's for sure. Saying that though, Jack still shows a huge amount of talent in the Stripes' work.

It's just a shame for music as a whole that bands like JSBX, the Dirtbombs etc never made it big; with the small amount of really good music this decade's produced, I really don't think this decade's gonna be looked back on very fondly in the future....

  • god he is hooot !

all of his videos are sick as hell gott to see this guy live and in person !

  • i'm pretty sure tim and eric get their sweet video effects from stuff like this. :]

  • the john spencer blues explosion is too big a name too look up on limewire!!!

    Rock n' Roll!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • As far as I know he plays some sort of blackface Fender..probably a twin reverb. Pretty sure I've seen him play Tiesco's and Tele's

  • Comment removed

  • Anyone know what amps they have there?

I see Judah is playing out of a Music Man, but what the hell is Jon's setup?

  • when i saw them live about ... i dunno 4 years or so ago, jon played through one of those purple-upholstered Kustom amps. That particular guitar is some ultra cheapo japanese one that his wife bought for him for something like 20 bucks. A cheapo with mojo.

  • Ah, cool. Thanks.

  • YEAH! blues is number 1 baby :)

  • 1:26 =what is this guitar??

  • a danelectro dano 59 or 69 (i cant remember now exactly which one) is the only guitar i have ever seen him play with

  • Jon Spencer does not play a Danelectro.

  • Looks like a chewed up Ibanez Jet King.

  • fucking good music!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • jon spencer is number 1

  • A real rock and roll band in the age of "Grunge" and "Pop Punk" of the early 90's. Brings me back.

  • @xanderlev1 Hey, nuthin wrong with grunge...

  • JSBX does the theme for No Reservations? I had no idea.

  • fucking great....grupazo!!

  • BELLO BARRIO UHHH !! BELLO BARRIO WUAO !!! claramente un cover de mauricio redobles.

  • BELLBOTTOMS!

  • buen rollito ;-)

  • Where can I download this stuff?

  • JSBX is one of the best live bands I have ever seen. Now its been about 10 times.

They still exist... boss hog is a good spencer band as well same with heavy trash...check them out!

  • Does the blues explosion still exist?? I'd love to see them, they sound like an immense live band

  • PUSH SOME AIR!!!!

  • does anyone knows the name of the song of blues explotion that appear in "no reservations"?

  • gracias por subir esto

  • I WANNA DANCE!!!

  • Anglophile: One who is interested in English culture.

Makes a change from being force fed American culture and seeing history re-written for the American audience I suppose. God bless America for making the world a much nicer place to live. Ha!

  • i hate anglophiles did you learn english in college well done but looks like you did'nt learn much although musak donates that you may be of germanic origins lol ie craft werk i hasten to think you are more from the cockmadic regions

  • Musak is a term used to refer to background music, I think our anglophile hating friend was using it in a derogatory sense. Not that I agree with his views, but boby, perhaps use the odd comma here and there - even a full stop if you're feeling adventurous - before you criticise someone else's use of the English language.

  • fantastic - not seen this for years

  • JSBX was (still is) the shit.

  • Well, he's a rich boy with a good work ethic. They tour like nobody else. I've seen them so many times. But, he's not even that rich really. His father was a college professor, not an oil tycoon. He's no Stavros Niarchos.

  • And spencer cons another dupe...

    Like I said - rich, not super-rich.

As far as the working class are concerned, middle class = rich.

Working class folks don't have a little nest egg to look forward to upon turning 18.

  • you dull tit.

  • me dull titty,

    you dim bulby

  • Fair point.

  • So you hate people for having dads who were college professors? What kind of fucking sense does that make?

  • Ihateanglophiles, I went to highschool with John. I know his family, rich they are not, you appear to have problems with people that have more than you. Listen to the music you douche bag. Who gives a shit who has money and who does not. I think you have some serious issues. Hell look at your youtube name....kind of says a lot about you.

  • I'm just stirring up the shit, you sycophantic literalist. And don't forget about relativity; is less more? I HAVE listened to the musak, on record & in person - and therein lies my issue: the MUSAK is fucking JIVE!

  • Ok, fair enough. Sycophant? I think not. I am not kissing anyones ass. and as Mies Vanderohe said, less IS more.

  • wow your great fun. you goin out drowning puppies for the weekend? your in the know alright.

  • I see you're still struggling with your spelling and grammar . . . keep up the good work!

  • I remember seeing this video and Marilyn Manson's "Lunchbox" back to back on 120 Minutes, back in '94. Both videos blew me away.

  • why didn't i think to like this up befor, i'm an idiot. pissing about on youtube slagging blur off when i could have been having fun. 1.48 is one of the best moments in the history of music, closely followed by 2.25 and then 2.55. and speed and whiskey is still a good combination...

  • heard it on marc rileys bbc6 music show, and had to search it out :)

  • Heck yeah, love the JSBE. I saw these guys a few times back in the day, freakin great live band.

  • This song cruises like hell in the land of rockers and rock. The sacarstic lyrics are powered to the max by the strictly sober voices and histerical but precise guitar riff attacks. A classic.

  • wtf? who thought it was a good idea to record a song about bellbottoms?

  • thats why it's so awesome! who needs another song about love ffs??

  • this is the most amazing music video i've ever seen.

  • strat dude ..your lame , in that you dont get it

do you know what tounge in cheek means ?

layoff the SRV ,,just for 10 minutes?

    ok ?

  • you know the drinking game named "blues explosion"? you put the album Orange on, people with beer in hand, everytime you hear "blues explosion" you gotta drink. if you miss, you drink twice. at the end of the A side you'll be drunk as hell, believe me.

  • So ridiculous! I love it!

  • I don't think there's bass here. There's two guitars, and I think Jon's playing the low end that you hear on the low E string. I'm guessing, though.

  • You are right. He's just muting low E. No bass at all.

  • the world needs more of their music

  • And it is Russell Simins (the drummer), pretty sweet huh?

  • There's a bass on this recording guys. Yes there is.

  • No, there is not. It's called muting. I can get an even bassier sound with my guitar.

  • I second that ; Jon sometimes tuned his E string down to D so it does sound like a bass ; & maybe they add some bass on the most recent records (since Acme?) but definitely not on their 4 first records

  • I SAY GODDAMN!

  • I love these dudes and I only discovered them recently .they rooooock

  • you make me wanna DANNNNNCE!!!

  • They turn me on. That's the SWEAT of the BLUES EXPLOSION!

  • hell yeah!!!!

  • Blues Explosion at their peak.

  • Cooool, who's playin bass tho?

  • BASS? BASS? they dont neeeeed no steeenkin bass! just the 3 piece.

  • The invisible man.

  • Kickass!
