Very true. I was recently involved in a very similar accident but I slowed down on approach to the intersection. I was doing about 30mph when a guy thought my Chief and I would make a nice hood ornament & turned right into me as if I wasn't there. The driver of the car told police it was his fault & he must have looked right past me when he turned left into me! He said he never saw me. I have a headlight and two spots and a very large bike. Don't know what else to do to be noticed!!

As a motorcycle rider, it is even difficult to tell exactly what was going on there. The motorcycle pilot may have been going too fast. The driver of the car was not paying attention. The pilot may not have been paying attention. Either way, it was probably better that the person went flying over the car instead of head first into the car, which usually means a fatal kneck injury regardless of that helmet.

Nobody seems in any rush to help the biker save his life. Maybe the driver is phoning emergency services on a moblile, or else maybe they are too shocked to get out the car. Remember that many driver are over 60 years-old with poor eyesight and slower reactions. So headlights on and speed down is always a good idea

I know that assuming you have the right of way when on a bike leads to the type of accident in the above video. Defensive driving while on a bike is a must and taking the position that you never have the right of way improves you odds of avoiding accidents. That biker should have assumed that car was going to turn in front of him and acted accodingly.

You have to cut the driver a bit of slack BECAUSE motorcycles appear to be further away then they really are and are going faster then they appear to be due to their reduced size. As I said earlier the best bikers know they never have the right of way and are prepared for the worst. Whenever encountering a car at an intersection or a trun, SLOW DOWN and be ready to stop.

Actually, i do ride a motorcycle, 650cc, and am certified nationally as a motorcycle instructor. A SWERVE maneuver takes a SPLIT-SECOND and is designed to AVOID SITUATIONS exactly like this one. From this video, I see NO DECELERATION on the part of the motorcyclist. As a m/c, u need 2drive DEFENSIVELY and ALWAYS be planning an ESCAPE ROUTE. In this case, SWERVING RIGHT. U always gotta b thinking ANYTHING can happen out there b/c it does.

I would be completely floored if that car magically knew how fast that bike was going. It is not like that bike was sporting a sign annoucing its speed. LOL I am sure the law indicates the car was at fault BUT if the bike had been going the speed limit the car probably would have completed its turn quite uneventfully but even if it didn't the bike would have been able to stop.

It is hard to say who is at fault (without knowing more facts). Honestly...I think the rider on the bike was unfortunately at fault. :( The car driver was well into that turn when the bike hit her. That means he was going to fast to stop or swerve.

Yeah i agree , how far was the rider looking ahead , at 0:05-0:06 in the video he should have seen the car turning , should have predicted it by it slowing down , it left plenty of room on the inside , looks like a case of speed and not looking for the killer car .

I know that assuming you have the right of way when on a bike leads to the type of accident in the above video. Defensive driving while on a bike is a must and taking the position that you never have the right of way improves you odds of avoiding accidents. That biker should have assumed that car was going to turn in front of him and acted accodingly.

This type of accident is quite common where a left turning car turns into the path of a motorcycle. The biker should have been prepared for it and he was not. The car driver will get the ticket, the biker will get the obituary.

You have to cut the driver a bit of slack BECAUSE motorcycles appear to be further away then they really are and are going faster then they appear to be due to their reduced size. As I said earlier the best bikers know they never have the right of way and are prepared for the worst. Whenever encountering a car at an intersection or a trun, SLOW DOWN and be ready to stop.

I agree. The bike clearly had the right of way, but in reality (not law), the rider shares responsibility because he knows the dangers and should have taken precations. Automobile drivers are notorious for illegal lefts that cost us riders way too much.

Actually, i do ride a motorcycle, 650cc, and am certified nationally as a motorcycle instructor. A SWERVE maneuver takes a SPLIT-SECOND and is designed to AVOID SITUATIONS exactly like this one. From this video, I see NO DECELERATION on the part of the motorcyclist. As a m/c, u need 2drive DEFENSIVELY and ALWAYS be planning an ESCAPE ROUTE. In this case, SWERVING RIGHT. U always gotta b thinking ANYTHING can happen out there b/c it does.

The motorcyclist did NOT take ANY evasive action... even at that speed, he could have SWERVED to the RIGHT and AVOIDED the car and then slowed down and pais more attention to traffic patterns in a BUSY gas-fastfood-residential area. Was he on a NEW bike?

Both of them acted wrong. First of all the bike was speeding, second the car did not wait for it to pass. Seriously it's easier for a car to wait a sec for the bike to pass, then expecting the bike to stop from 100km/h in 10meters

I would be completely floored if that car magically knew how fast that bike was going. It is not like that bike was sporting a sign annoucing its speed. LOL I am sure the law indicates the car was at fault BUT if the bike had been going the speed limit the car probably would have completed its turn quite uneventfully but even if it didn't the bike would have been able to stop.

Every frame, motorbike moves just over 1 bodylengths, so let's say 2 meters per frame.
That's 30 meter/second. That's 108km/h. No way in hell that 2-lane road near a petrol pump is a 100+ kph zone in a built-up area. But driver still at fault for pulling out in front and not giving way.

It is hard to say who is at fault (without knowing more facts). Honestly...I think the rider on the bike was unfortunately at fault. :( The car driver was well into that turn when the bike hit her. That means he was going to fast to stop or swerve.
(I ride so I am not just another car drivers taking sides with car drivers)
What appauls me though is the other drivers not getting out of there car to help. Then they drive off as appose to waiting to give a statement.

watch the video one more time, notice that there IS a car that makes a left turn JUST off screen, you can see (if you look closly) they just START the turn,.. probably getting out of the way of traffic before giving a statement, although I can't say for sure.
