  • Your concept is included in my list of exam questions. Gahhh

  • What does a digital potatoe taste like or when does a a digital root canal become free? Some things will never be free.

  • Anyone noticed the Wii is written with 3 i (Wiii) at 1:15 ? :D

  • I could not agree more. Look what Amazon has done to traditional brick & mortar retailers. Order online - UPS delivers it the product to your home/office. Reduce costs, reduce price, reduce the number of traditional retailers.

  • If you want to read a really good critique on Anderson's "free" model and also about the "cultural costs" that no one is talking about, check a great piece on it

  • This is just the same as Lightning Economy when we get abundant free electricity from lightnings.

  • Excellent Ron Paul 2012

    Decentralize economic and political power

  • The big Oil corporations are trying their best to stop free energy ideas from spreading to common ppl.

We need to put an end to this corruption ,start generating your own electricity now.

Visit LT-MAGNET-MOTORdotCOM and get the blueprints . Join the Revolution!!

  • And what this will mean is that musicians, authors, filmmakers and actors, everyone who creates the content, in fact, will no longer get paid. I can't wait.

  • No Freakanomics? Waaaah.

  • @keytoothed.Shangi had the wrong name up for a long time because my name is NOT all over the internet hooked to my screen name, you are deliberately lying about that on your channel, and I have never said anyone else had my passwords, but you. MORE LIES. My family is in danger. I have gotten rape threats because of you.You don't want to be left alone, or you would end this harassment of me and my children. My son almost died in that accident that I don't talk about. I did NOTHING to deserve this

  • Does this mean your iPad magazine will be free? Yeah right.

  • try reading his book before you judge...

  • this is great i love free shit

obama is giving me free healthcare

  • I'll work for free when I never have to pay for my lunch-time steak or house at the beach. Until that day I'll still believe that traditional economic principles still apply. This is a zero-sum game, where you have expenses you're going to have to generate income or the captial tap will soon be switched off. Even Wikipedia needs to attract people's goodwill money to keep going. Isn't that their "business model"?

  • this sounds more like rambling than structured thought

when he starts talking about google he makes it sound like they produce money out of thin air, which is a load of brown organic matter

Things become 'free' because the labor to produce those things has already been paid for and demand has shifted to something else

I like how at the beginning he quotes the inaccurate vision of Lewis Strauss to start a "thought experiment" I should stopped watching there

  • this guy rocks!!!!!!!!!!! i ove tyhis concept1!!! thats how facebook, myspace and craigslist is taking off!!

  • I know that all these good godfearing rightwing republicans from Texas don't believe this "0.00 $" theory. They believed that "there ain't free lunch". But they are wrong (as they almost always are).

This isn't the best time to traditional worshippers of capitalism. But it's not good period also for traditional marxism-senilists. U don't have to wonder why leaders of M$ are selling their stocks. You can cheat all people some time, some people even all the time but not all people all the time.

  • I didn't believe this theory 10 years ago. But i've change my mind. Two years ago i moved to Linux. Since that day i haven't used a single cent of €uro to computer software.

Atleast digital software is coming free - Dunno has Microsoft realisized it. If not - they will die. Brazil is gonna move to Linux, Russia perhaps also. Africa using Microsoft Windows? Don't make me laugh. China has moved totally to pirate software. Microsoft accept it coz otherwise chinese people will move to Linux.

  • There is definitely no 'free.' Someone always has to pay. However, it's great that this is a powerful lead source since people flock to free. Youtube is free and losing mega amounts of money everyday since the way to generate revenue has not been established. That is a risk of going free so although it does sound good be careful not to enter into a market for which you make not $en$e.

  • This is only a problem right now when the amount of traffic to youtube, costs more than youtube can make. However their servers storage and server power is growing exponentially, they will eventually out grow their traffic and start making money.

The problem with youtube is just that tech isn't cheap enough at the moment, eventually it will be and youtube will only make more and more money each year after that.

  • Here's my reply to this: in a fair world, there's no free lunch. You either give value or you're out.

  • Cash should be free for all.

  • I wonder if he does his job for free and gets gas for free and his rent is free. Hey I was not paid to say this.... I did it for free. Wait, No I didn't. I expect payment in this post for of recognition that this guy is a dumbass. And that people trade values for values these do not always include money. Here are some of the things he did not mention: Google's advertising fees ...NOT free... All of the physical REAL energy used and computer's they use ... NOT FREE.

  • plemke1,

    You missed the point.

  • No RCpedersen01 you missed the point. The future is free is b.s. and stuff like this is only said by people who have lost the concept and purpose of money.

Google is one of the largest corporations that exist because of AD REVENUE.

  • But he's not talking about an economy without any money, he's talking about using free as a marketing tool. He's not saying that google doesnt have any expenses or revenue, he's saying it has been so successful because its products are free to the consumer.

  • 0.00......hmmmm could that be what the U.S. economy's checkbook is heading toward?

Just wondering...... Mr Socialist who made the outrageous comment about Capitalism vs Socialism. vs Communism.....Just rememer the United States trades wampum with the largest communist country in the world......China......So put that in your American Capitalism pipe and smoke it.

  • cool

  • lol

this is so...i dont think so..

he essential point is that...a commercial is free...google is a ad...wekia is an ad...yahoo is an ad...

so when he says free...what the product? no. the labor to make the product? No. the purchasing of the product? No.

When I used to watch tv...I ddnt pay for the commercials and I didnt pay for the tv show..

but is it free..no (im not talking cable bill either)

    last point

''when items are free you dont have to make conscious choice you just do it'' Oh ok!?

  • Socialist scam -- Businesses give a lot away "free" because they can make revenues in other ways: Google rakes in billions in ads; Craig's list charges $75 to businesses to post ads; I pay $11.50 to see an Omni theater show; Comcast still charges me $110 per month to use the internet where I can get the free stuff.

This is a capitalist economy, and hopefully it will never change!

  • Could go deeper into how googles advertisment works. and there is no relevant affirmation that tomorrow some new search engine could show up and blow google away. dot com bubble imploded already, just because they are more careful now doesnt mean its not a bubble anymore imo.

  • Everything I do on TalkMusicBiz is free so that more can learn; then re-direct in stimulating new financial growth through creative re-positioning of product.

  • He's talking about Digital, purely digital economies. However like all models once someone, or something like a corporation that wants to generate a profit has control, or attempts to control the marketplace it won't be free. So yeah the model works if a corporation doesn't charge for it. But on the other hand just look how much success the RIAA has had in stopping internet piracy, next to none. So it would be interesting to see how this plays out in the future. Cool vid BTW.

  • actually craigslist charges I think $25 for businesses to post help wanted ads, which subsidizes the "free" classifieds we use. But not a free service.

  • While this is interesting and applies to a number of business that don't produce any hard goods I don't see how basics such as food and housing are going to be free. Granted this is not something that he states but I would like to question his take on this.

  • Since Mr. Moviechaser is fukin retarded. Have u never seen wikipedia? Or craigslist? They are word of mouth companies that do not advertise or soliciate business. They are both free companies and most all places (just like youtube, thats why u joined, cuz its free) are the places we visit most and WE create this site by putting into it for nothing in return. Its free for youtube, its free for us. We just make it happen.

  • question...word of mouth is not advertising?

    free? for who?

the idea presented is simply as stated by the author an attempt to have you...

'just do it. you dont have to make conscious decision'...think about the implications of that very statement....

I understand everyone wants 'free'...hell they love the word...but free is a utopia not a life style...

moving forward in the future we as a culture should learn to detest the word 'free' as it often means to opposite.

  • So this means... that ur moms a man and u cant comprehend.

This is a great piece of info, take it and like it

  • i think this is pretty cool!

  • Ur not the only one.

  • I guess that is the same problem with geothermic energy as well. The answer is under your feet.

  • the future movie is matilda gone gone look it up!

  • Again, the poop just got scooped.

  • I have never given that much thought to this digial economy. Thanks for the valuable information.

  • interesting stuff

  • business id the soul of metod.

  • practically is already...

  • Electricity could have been free if Tesla wasn't fucked by that asshole Edison time after time.

  • lol.

  • lol <3 Tesla

  • that was intresting

  • It's all about efficiency, I wrote a paper on a similar concept.

  • Why in the background at 1:24 does it have an ad that says GET A FREE WIII? Or does it say FREE WII!

  • it says free WII! the video game system

  • the irony of all this "virtual economy"???

look at the price surges of "hard commodities" such as oil and gold in the last two years...

  • Money money money.... MOOOONNEYY!!

  • From who?

  • free

  • oh ok then, can I eat storage space or drink the latest processing chip? PHAIL!

  • im sorry but unless EVERY THING and i MEAN EVERYTHING was free this will never work. In a wierd way everything is free; we just give a green piece a paper with a dead person on it to get something.

  • i subscribe to wired mag

  • Free is a scary thought. Because at the end of the day, I do have to put food on the table for my family and I. Reprecussions of true-free ideologies would eventually collapse competitions and would seriously jeapordise our social securities.

  • You're missing the point here MSI2k. The notion of "Free" that is being presented to us by Chris Anderson is not really society's understanding of free. Instead, the meaning of "Free" can be seen in a mathematical form where "Free" gets closer and closer to zero. The conclusion would be that as one product becomes "Free", then the rest will follow. Efficiency would be at a maximum, and economy's would rise. As the costs of production decrease, the product price will decrease.

  • Nice idea but dont you still have to pay for internet? Cause Time Warner hit me up every month. With that was free.

  • Google isn't free! Maybe it doesn't cost money, but there are lots adds. How could everything be free? Utopian socialism has never worked.

  • EPIC FAILURE

  • it wouldn't improve the world. without purchasing, we would be sent into a depression

  • that would be awsome if that happened then it would just improve the world i hope it does one day
