Halo brought lots of awesome stuff to video games. Firstly, it's got a huge storyline spanning over many years (making it a modern epic), It's got good balanced gameplay, awesome enemies, vehicles, and weapons, and most recently map making, a great video program to record stuff, and a file share so you can post those videos and screenshots. So yes I would say not a lot of that is revolutionary but it's the first to put it all together in one package and made a great game too.
