Dvd players don't usually require programing unless they have a clock, on a VCR the clock use used to record shows, when was the last time you recorded a tape? The DVD and VCR are expensive clocks. My cable box has the time on the front of it. Don't forget the surround sound system, it can be a standby power hog!
The electronics manefactures should install a backup battery to hold the memory
so you dont have to program you electronics every time you turn them on just like computers thank you

A simple but good idea. On its own, it helps a little, but there are many similar problems that this would probably also solve.
